# The Commission of Inquiry constituted by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to look into the crisis surrounding the Awka traditional stool has commenced its public hearing.
The Commission, headed by a former Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Peter Obidigwe, began the public hearing after receiving memoranda and written submissions from various groups, kindreds and villages in Awka.
The hearing, held at the Amphitheatre, Lighthouse, Awka, was attended by representatives of Chief Austin Ndigwe and Obi Gibson Nwosu, kingmakers from both sides, Otochalu Nkwelle Awka, Ndi Nkwelle Awka, Ndi Agulu Awka, Ndi Ozo Agulu Awka, as well as individuals, including Professor A. U. Nonyelu, among other groups.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the Commission, Justice Obidigwe, said they were given the mandate by the Governor to hear from all concerned parties in order to bring lasting peace to the community.
He encouraged all those who submitted memoranda to come forward with any information they have regarding the traditional stool of Awka to aid the Commission in finding a solution to the issue.
# A critical stakeholder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Primus Odili, has urged all eligible citizens – particularly those in the Anambra North Senatorial District to step forward and secure their permanent voter’s card (PVC) in the ongoing national Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The CVR which began on January 5th, 2026, will end on April 17th, 2026.
In a statement released by his media office and made available to newsmen, Odili called on APGA members to update their membership registration which has gone digital now to avoid being disenfranchised.
While commending the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, the Anambra North Senatorial hopeful, highlighted the significance of empowering 4,423 new individuals across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas, granting them the fundamental right to vote in the 2027 general elections and beyond.
# The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Women Association (NAUWA) Cooperative, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.
Led by its Chairperson, Prof. Gladys Ahaneku, the delegation introduced the Vice-Chancellor to the cooperative’s bakery initiative on campus, producing high-quality, hygienically prepared bread with a NAFDAC registration number.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the initiative, describing it as a foresighted idea that can positively impact the university community through the production of premium-quality bread.
# Anambra State Government has commended the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, for renovating the facilities at Community Secondary School Amawbia, formerly Amawbia Girls Secondary School.
Some of the facilities included the Examination Hall, Biology and Chemistry Laboratories.
The Chairman of Post Primary School Service Commission, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, represented by Ngozi Ekwunife during the commissioning ceremony said the intervention is a significant contribution to improving the learning environment in the school.
Prof. Ikediugwu noted that the science block, originally constructed in 1981 had deteriorated over the years due to lack of maintenance before the recent renovation.
Commissioning the project, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Okoye said the intervention is part of his commitment to strengthening the education sector and fulfilling development promises made to the people of Awka South constituency.
He emphasized that the future of every society depends largely on the quality of education provided to young people, and stressed the need for continuous investment in school infrastructure to promote academic excellence, practical learning and innovation among students.
# Bishop Uzodike Memorial Seminary, Nnewi, has emerged victorious in the just-concluded 2026 biennial sports fiesta organized for seminaries and convents in the Ecclesiastical Provinces of the Niger and Enugu.
All Saints Seminary, Ekwulobia, came second, while St. Christopher’s Junior Seminary, Onitsha, came third.
The sports fiesta, which took place at Bishop Uzodike Memorial Seminary, Nnewi, was part of efforts aimed at keeping the students physically fit, in addition to providing them with quality teaching, learning, and sound morals.
Speaking during the event, the Chairman of the Conference of Principals of Seminaries and Convents, Provinces of the Niger and Enugu, Venerable Ifeanyi Mgbemene, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise and the large turnout of participants.
He called on students to always take their studies seriously, stating that the sports fiesta is designed to promote harmonious coexistence among them.
The host Principal, Venerable Tochukwu Egwuatu, who commended the conference for giving his school the opportunity to host the sports fiesta, described sports as a unifying factor and thanked the participants for their discipline and good conduct.
# Members of the Alor Society, the traditional king-making body in Achalla community, Awka North LGA, have unanimously disowned Igwe Sunday Nwokedi as the traditional ruler of the community, accusing him of intimidation and assault on subjects, including elders of the town.
During an event held at Obu Umuezeorah, Umuogbe Village, Achalla, where they formally disowned the traditional ruler, members of the Alor Society, led by its head, Ogbuefi Ezennia Chukwuma Nwankamma, represented by Ogbuefi Ikwune Ekegbue, alleged that Igwe Nwokedi failed to perform the traditional rites required of anyone aspiring to become the traditional ruler of Achalla.
They further claimed that he had remained a thorn in the flesh of the people since ascending the throne in 2021, and accused him of recently halting the reconstruction of the popular Oye Achalla Market being constructed by the President-General of the community, an action they said contributed to their decision.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo is poised to make Anambra the leading skill hub destination centre, with a target of raising youth millionaires through the “One Youth, Two Skills” entrepreneurship programme.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, stated this while addressing beneficiaries of the mentorship training for heads of cooperatives in Onitsha.
Commissioner Aghamba, who spoke on the essence of effective mentorship in consolidating solutions targeted at empowering beneficiaries with expertise that will strengthen their business ventures, appreciated relevant partners for their sustainable collaboration.
Explaining mentorship as a vital component of the skill programme, the facilitator, Dr. Rita Melifonwu, who commended the commitment of the Commissioner to achieving the mandate, noted that the training programme is fundamental in providing ideas, expertise, and guidance to expand businesses, and identified the new federal government tax law as part of its focus.
# A young girl identified as Chinwe Mbaigbo was found wandering along Anagbogu Street, behind the Old Government House in Awka.
According to reports, the girl was initially unable to speak and could only stare at people around her when she was discovered. A Good Samaritan reportedly sheltered her overnight.
She began speaking the following morning and was able to provide some personal details.
Chinwe said she is from Umunze and that she lives in Lagos. She also stated that she is a JSS2 student at Whitefield High School, Lagos.
Although she could not state her exact age, she appears to be in her late teens. She reportedly has difficulty speaking and appears somewhat incoherent but understands both English and Igbo languages.
She also mentioned an address as Aro Ozumba Street, Lagos, and identified her parents as Mr. Pius Mbaigbo and Mrs. Chinyere Mbaigbo.
