* The call to embrace craftsmanship was made during the celebration of Igbo Language and Culture cum Crafts exhibition at the Anglican Girls Grammar School (AGGS), Onitsha.

Speaking during the event, the Principal, AGGS Onitsha, Lady Maureen Anyaenetu described acquisition of various skills early in life as part of Igbo culture urging parents, guardians and teachers to ensure that school children engage in learning and practicing of different forms of crafts because of the numerous benefits in craftsmanship.

Zonal Director Education, Post Primary Secondary School Commission ZDE, PPSSC Onitsha, Mrs Mary Eziamaka Umennadi while speaking said Igbo cultural values which includes craftsmanship is eroding. Before, Igbo people were not known for okeite, Yahoo plus but dignity in Labour. 

* The Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu while receiving members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Anambra State in his office at Awka, proposes to partner with SWAN to organise sports competitions with the market community and relevant stakeholders to enhance the Police’s relationship with the public, thus promoting a sense of community bonding and trust. 

The CP noted that this initiative is a great way to promote social cohesion and improve communication between law enforcement and the public.  According to the CP, this will create a positive and engaging environment for the public, and by so doing showcase the importance of sports in building bridges between law enforcement and the community.

Chairman of the SWAN Anambra State Chapter Mr Chimezie Ananso thanked the CP for receiving the Association and expressed readiness to partner with the Command to actualize its goals. Consequently, the Command and SWAN is reviewing the Proposal to enable them to select the participants and the theme of the competition accordingly.

* The local government Chairman of Njikoka, Hon. Chinedu Ononiba has visited the Health Centre in Uruokokwe Village, Nimo Ward 2, as part of his commitment to ensuring quality healthcare delivery in the area. 

Barr. Ononiba had previously promised to visit and assess the condition of the health centre.

Accompanying the Mayor on the inspection was Hon. Kodilichukwu Oliobi, the Councillor representing Nimo Ward II. Together, they toured the facility, examining its current state and discussing necessary improvements needed.

* Newly elected President -General of Okpoko Community, Sir Charles Ezeokafor who won landslidely on Ist day of March,2025 at an election held at the community secretariat has oulined plans for the peace and development of the community.

Sir. Ezeokafor stated this at Okpoko yesterday when some journalists visited him.He disclosed that one of the secondary schools in the community, Unity Secondary school has been selected for renovation and upgrade by a non governmental organization with the assistance of the State Government.

He noted that street sweeping has begun in several parts of the community to ensure cleanliness of the environment., while demolition of illegal structures that obstruct flood channels are being demolished.

* The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Chinedu Ononiba in a bid to resolve the leadership crisis at the Oyeagu Market in Abagana, has intervened in the ongoing dispute.

The Mayor’s visit was accompanied by Chairman of the Anambra Traders Market Association (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna. 

Barr. Ononiba while speaking said the purpose of the visit was to address the leadership issues affecting the market and foster peace and cooperation among the traders.

The Mayor commended the traders for their civility and conduct, urging them to continue working together for the betterment of the market community.

Ononiba acknowledged the need for urgent improvements in the market, particularly to prevent fire outbreaks, emphasized that the market’s facilities need a facelift, including the installation of toilet facilities to ensure good hygiene for all traders and customers. He assured traders that any shop owner with valid ownership documents would have their stalls reinstated after the renovation process.

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Industry, Mr. Christian Udechukwu, has unveiled the state government’s efforts to boost industrial growth through improved infrastructure, investment-friendly policies, and access to financing for local businesses.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) in Awka, Udechukwu emphasized the need to address power supply issues in the state.

The commissioner stated that the state’s goal is to produce and supply power to industries at significantly lower rates than currently available

Udechukwu noted that the high cost of power has forced many industries to close down, emphasizing the need for affordable power supply to industries.

* Following the boundary dispute between Ikenga and Isiokwe villages in Umueri and Aguleri respectively that led to the murder of one and the destruction of properties in the area on 16th March 2025, Anambra Commissioner of Police CP. Ikioye Orutugu has interviewed parties involved in his Office at Awka.

The CP is seeking to explore Alternative Dispute Resolutions (ADR) to the case and seeks the cooperation of the communities to identify the suspects involved and to ensure that justice is served.

CP Orutugu noted that the approach has become necessary not only to resolve the boundary dispute between the Ikenga and Isiokwe villages, but also to promote a culture of peace and reconciliation in the larger Umueri and Aguleri Communities. 

In their response, both Communities agreed to work together, especially to discuss their differences on Government interventions so far and partner with relevant stakeholders to work out modalities to ensure lasting peace, especially on boundaries. 

* The Public Complaints Commission, says it targets to increase awareness rate about its existence and operations in Anambra State to forty percent by the end of 2025.

The Federal Commissioner in charge of the state, Emmanuel Muoka, who disclosed this while playing host to members of the Civil Society/Media Accountability and Anticorruption Initiative, (CMAAI), said the commission targets incremental rise in awareness level to 70% by 2026 and 90 to 95% by 2027.

Muoka said the commission remains an impartial mediator between the complainants and the defendants

the State Director, Charles Ekwunife, said the commission which was established on 16th October, 1975 by Decree No. 31 and opened its Anambra office in 1993, after its creation, has successfully resolved thousands of cases brought before it. He commended the current Federal Commissioner for his achievements since he assumed duty in October 2024.

* AIG Abayomi Peter Oladipo on Tuesday March 18th 2025 assume duty as the 

8th substantive Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police at Zone 13 Headquarters Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Recently, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun approved the posting of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to Head the Zone13 Zonal Police Command. This is coming shortly after the meritorious retirement of the former AIG. 

A distinguished law enforcement officer, scholar, and international peacekeeper, AIG Abayomi stands as a beacon of excellence, integrity, and dedication in the Nigeria Police Force. 

Born on the 24th of April, 1966, in Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State into the Abayomi Family of the Brazilian Quarters, Moshalashi Olosun, his journey has been one of unwavering commitment to service and national security.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has said that the ministry will intensify the supervision of schools in the state to ensure that sports equipment given to them are put to proper use.

She stated this at a press conference to mark the commencement of the 2025 edition of Anambra Sports Solution Initiative (ANSSI) competition for primary and secondary schools in Awka, which is scheduled to kick off on the 19th March and end on 27th June 2025 at Awka Township Stadium.

Describing sports as critical for complete development of the child; reason sports equipment were distributed to the schools, Professor Chuma-Udeh added that there would be improved monitoring to ensure that the schools put them to good use.
