* The member representing Onitsha North two constituency, Hon. Patrick Okafor urges his constituents to preserve the newly constructed Akpa-marine-33 express roads by the state government. Angel Network News recalls that Okafor at plenary moved a motion commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for completing the said road. Okafor who is the house committee chairman on Judiciary, admonished his people to have proper attitude towards government/public facilities.

* The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, has uncovered a scandal at Onitsha General Hospital in Anambra State. It was discovered that 406 individuals were illegally added to the hospital’s staff list after the federal government took over.

During a hearing with the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character, Hon Tunji revealed the illegal padding of the staff list by the hospital’s management.

* The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone has warned that examination misconduct could result in a suspension for up to three years and even expulsion, while students found to have registered with fake certificates would be expelled from the university. The VC gave the admonition at the 2023–2024 matriculation ceremonies for fresh undergraduate students of the university on Friday. Esimone admonished the newly admitted students into the university to be of good behaviour to achieve their future dreams.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has congratulate the Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, His Eminence Peter Ebere Cardinal Okpaleke on the special ocassion of his 61st birthday. Soludo in his birthday message expressed delight and appreciation for the Prelate’s positive impact in the state and the global space.

The Governor described Cardinal Okpaleke as a revered cleric, who has dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity. 

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed optimism that Anambra State will continue to produce individuals like

former Minister of Education and a renowned constitutional lawyer,

Professor Benjamin Obiefuna Nwabueze.

Speaking at his funeral ceremony, Governor Soludo, while offering his condolences to Nwabueze’s family and the people of Atani-Ogbaru Council area, emphasized that he was physically present to celebrate “one of the finest gifts to Anambra” and a significant figure in African history.

* Members of the Anambra State House of Assembly on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) have asked President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo to stop everything they are doing for six months and fashion ways to give the masses food and security. The lawmakers who said they allied with the leader of the party, Mr Peter Obi, to drum support for security and welfare of the people above any other considerations. The LP legislators said for their part, they would forfeit and commit their basic salaries for six months running for the feeding and clinics of the people of the state.

* The Senate has rejected a bill that aimed to include Anambra State as a member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). In response, Prince Chris Azor, Chairman of the Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), expressed his disagreement with the Senate’s decision.

He called on the people of Anambra, the Southeast, and all patriotic Nigerians to condemn this unpopular action and support the bill’s re-presentation for adoption and passage. The bill was sponsored by Senator Tony Nwoye, who argued that Anambra, as an oil-producing state receiving 13 percent derivation, should be included in the operational scope of the NDDC. However, during the debate on the bill’s second reading, many senators disagreed with Nwoye’s argument. They pointed out that being an oil-producing state is not the sole criterion for NDDC membership, as the agency primarily serves the interests of states in the Niger Delta region.

* Anambra State’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh recently joined the students of her alma mater in their morning assembly, fully dressed in her school uniform. The all-female school, Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the State, is currently in its 62nd year of existence and has produced many other individuals who have distinguished themselves in the respective fields of endeavours; while its students have represented Anambra State and Nigeria in different national and international competitions respectively, in which they emerged victorious. Addressing the students at their assembly ground, Commissioner Chuma-Udeh, who stressed on the exceptional nature of the school, hailed it as a pinnacle of educational excellence and the greatest school in Nigeria, while also emphasizing that any student who passes through the school should count herself privileged.

* The Caretaker Committee Chairman of New Auto Spare Parts Market, Nkpor, Chief Stephen Obiorah Ofoleh, has lauded the recent appointment of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as one of the National Economic Advisors by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He described Gov. Soludo as the right man for the job, owing to his outstanding achievements as an erudite Professor of Economy, a former Chairman of the National Economic Planning Commission, and a three-time global best CBN Governor. Chief Ofoleh, who expressed his heartfelt joy said that the appointment was a testament to Gov. Soludo’s experience and competence as an International Economic Consultant who has done well in all ramifications, noting that a golden fish has no hiding place. 

* The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Urban Water Assets Holdings Corporation, Mr. Ejiofor Ikeobi conducted an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation work on the Aroma-Awka Urban water scheme. Ikeobi said that he was certified with progress of works at the site and commended the contractors, Overman Pumps. The rehabilitation project is aimed at revitalizing the water infrastructure in Awka and ensuring the delivery of clean and portable water supply to the residents.
