# The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) reinforced staff discipline and professionalism during a meeting led by the Executive Director on Internal Operations, Lady Ann Nwagwu.

‎Addressing key issues affecting staff conduct and organizational efficiency, Nwagwu emphasized that punctuality, commitment, and ethical behavior are critical to achieving AIRS’ goals.

Employees were reminded that the official resumption time is 8:00 a.m. sharp, and late arrivals will no longer be tolerated.

‎The Executive Director further announced that staff remuneration will now be performance-based, rewarding diligent and effective contributions toward organizational targets.

# The Anambra Chairman of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Patrick Obianyo, has expressed frustration at the poor running of the party’s registration and revalidation process in the state.

The state chairman stated this during the inauguration of the state chapter of a support group under the party, with the name; ADC Independent Campaign Council (AICC).

He said as at Thursday of the previous week, the party had only been able to register about 22,000 persons in the state, but said that the slow pace of the registration portal was hampering the number.

# The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed the suit challenging the revocation and compulsory acquisition of Trans-Nkissi Layout in Onitsha by the Anambra State Government.

In the suit initiated in 1987 by Chinyelugo Denis Chude and 11 others against the Government of Anambra State, the Attorney General of the state and the Commissioner for Lands, the plaintiffs challenged the government’s revocation and compulsory acquisition of the area now known as Trans-Nkissi Layout Onitsha, a layout similar to the Trans-Ekulu Layout in Enugu and Trans-Amadi Layout in Rivers State.

The plaintiffs failed to prosecute the case diligently, leading to its striking out in 2008 by Honourable Justice Agbata, after which the plaintiffs waited for over seven additional years before praying the court to relist the suit.

# Bishop Uzodike Memorial Seminary, Nnewi, has emerged overall winner of the 2026 Biennial Sports Fiesta organised for seminaries and convents in the Ecclesiastical Provinces of the Niger and Enugu.

All Saints Seminary, Ekwulobia, finished in second place, while St. Christopher’s Junior Seminary, Onitsha, secured the third position in the competition.

The sports fiesta was hosted by Bishop Uzodike Memorial Seminary, Nnewi, and aimed at promoting physical fitness among students alongside academic excellence and moral development.

Speaking during the event, the Chairman of the Conference of Principals of Seminaries and Convents in the Provinces of the Niger and Enugu, Venerable Ifeanyi Mgbemene, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the event and the participation of students.

# The Executive Chairman, Mr. Ikeazor Nnaemeka Okonkwo, held a strategic meeting at his office with the PwC team led by Mr. Chijioke Uwaegbute, alongside Oasis Management and key revenue-generating departments.

‎The meeting focused on restructuring processes within the Service, identifying ongoing challenges, and implementing sustainable solutions to enhance efficiency and revenue performance.

Mr. Chijioke Uwaegbute emphasized the importance of obtaining comprehensive and accurate taxpayer information, rather than relying solely on limited available data for assessments. He noted that data-driven insights are critical to improving tax administration outcomes.

He reiterated that there is no minimum or maximum threshold for issuing a Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC). He stressed that TCCs must strictly reflect the actual income of taxpayers, following a thorough and proper assessment process.

# The National leadership of Dominic Savio Seminary, Akpu in Orumba South LGA, and St. Johnbosco Seminary, Isuaniocha, in Awka North LGA of Anambra Old Boys Association (SABOBA), gathered at their Secretariat domiciled inside St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, to appreciate the 1982 and 1991 B sets of the association for their outstanding financial contributions towards the celebration of the feasts of the two citadels of learning.

Presenting the prizes, the National President of SABOBA, Celestine Oguegbu, commended the sets for their continued support and goodwill towards the association, urging them to sustain the tempo.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Mr. Val Obienyem, congratulated the winners and urged them to do even more, saying that their constant financial and material support for their Alma Maters would continue to grow from strength to strength.

# To usher in the year’s farming season, as is customary in the area, Umunobe Village in Ogbunka Community, Orumba South LGA has organized the 2026 Oganiru Festival, which attracted residents of the village from within and outside the community, as well as friends and well-wishers from far and wide.

The Oganiru Festival in Umunobe Village Ogbunka usually begins with different activities on designated days, including a general hunting expedition by community hunters, a twenty-one gun salute to flag off the festival, the blessing of farm tools, crops and seeds for the year’s cultivation by clergymen in the community, and ends with cultural dances by different groups, as well as various masquerade displays.

In their separate remarks at this year’s edition of the festival tagged “Oganiru Akanchawa 2026,” the Chairman of Umunobe People’s Association, Hon. Uzochukwu Ikevude, and the Chairman of the Oganiru Festival 2026 Planning Committee, Chief Michael Ezenwa, noted that through their manpower, farmers in the area have continued to make Ogbunka one of the food baskets of the state, and called on the local, state and federal
governments to provide them with modern farming tools such as tractors for mechanized and commercial agricultural practice, as well as storage facilities to enable them to scale up their agricultural production for the benefit of a larger population.

# ‎The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, has dedicated St Peter’s Catholic Church, Ugwuoba, in Oji River Local Government Area, Enugu State, for holistic worship of God in the area.

‎Speaking in a homily during the solemn ceremony, the Catholic Bishop admonished the Ugwuoba Catholic Community to dedicate their lives to God by living out their faith in a such way that their lifestyles witnessed for Christ.

‎The Bishop reminded the Ugwuoba Catholic faithful that they were the real temple of the Holy Spirit, advising them to always be holy and work hard to make heaven, which he described as the highest church.

‎Bishop Ezeokafor, who described a church as a house of prayer and worship of God, also admonished the faithful to avoid any other activities such meetings, reading of newspapers, among others, in the gigantic St Peter’s Church Building, rather than  using it as a meeting point for communion with God.
