* The Student Union Government of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has conferred honourary leadership award to Chief Uzodinma Chinedu Maduka for his leadership and contributions to the students union council

The event tagged SUG Legislative Summit and Awards Ceremony, held at the University’s auditorium had in attendance members of the SUG Legislative students, among others.

The SUG President Mr. Samuel Eze in his remarks, called on Anambra lawmakers to intervene in the suffocating rents being collected by landlords in Awka which is affecting students drastically and appealed to the lawmakers to make a law to regulate house rents.

Receiving the award, the awardee who is also a guest speaker, Chief Uzodinma expressed delight at the recognition saying it is an honour that would spur him to do more for the student body and explained that Thinking Entertainment World is a record label set out to make a difference in the entertainment industry and added that the contest will be done on yearly basis.

* Police Operatives attached to the Special Anti-cult Unit Enugwu Ukwu have arrested Mr. Chibuike Ozoekwem, 22 years and Favour Patrick 19 years respectively in an uncompleted building at Onwurah Street, Awka.

The Operatives recovered one pump action gun, sixteen (16) pieces of expended cartridges, a battle Axe, and two suspected stolen phones.

According to a press statement by SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, a victim identified one of the recovered phones and stated that she was robbed on the 13th of March, 2025 at gun point by four armed men along the Club Road.

The Police Operatives have expanded the investigation aimed at arresting other gang members. Further details would be communicated on receipt please.

Meanwhile, all the suspects shall be charged to Court on the conclusion of investigations.

* The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake, counterfeit, and substandard drugs worth over one trillion naira in Awka, Anambra State.

According to NAFDAC’s Zonal Director Southeast, Dr. Martin Iluyomade, the drugs destroyed includes Analgin, Tramadol, pediatric pharmaceuticals, which had been stored in prohibited areas or were banned by the World Health Organization (WHO).

He stated that the closure and raid of these markets, were in response to public complaints regarding the prevalence of fake, substandard, and counterfeit drugs in the Southeast.

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASMATA), Mr. Mike Ozoemena, emphasised the support shown by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

* Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade enforcement team has arrested three persons for impersonating revenue officers in Onitsha while collecting huge amounts from unsuspecting motorists for emblem and other related revenues.

The agency, following a well established intelligence report, took suspects unawares and arrested three, while others escaped when they sighted officers of the enforcement team of the agency.

Some of the victims who were mainly bus and truck drivers, such as Onyebuchi Onume, lamented the activities of the revenue impersonators, showing evidence of the huge taxes and emblems fees that were extorted from them.

Speaking, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, vowed to ensure that everyone involved in the organised crime will be arrested and subsequently face the full wrath of the law and expressed the agency’s readiness to continuously fight against double taxation and touting in the state.

* A man From Enugwu-ukwu has been exposed for forcefully having his way with his nine year old daughter. He Rqpes her through the anus and vagina!

This was exposed through the intervention of popular Social Activist Lord Zeus.

According To Lord Zeus, The Family of the man was already questioning his interference, claiming it is a family matter and they don’t need his help or mediation.

The wife who is from Nawfia was seen in the video looking baffled and confused, Saying the only thing she needs is for the man to go to the village and perform some sort of cleansing rituals (Ịkpụ Alụ).

* The Chairman of Idemili South local government area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has inspected ongoing construction of 1.3km of Umuegbu Ngo Nnobi road in Idemili South, Anambra State.

The road was attracted by Obi through Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP), and facilitated by Chief Emeka Agbanari (CEO Seaman).

Speaking during the inspection, the Mayor commended Chief Agbanari for keying into Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of sustainable, livable and prosperous homeland, stating that it will enhance the infrastructure and quality of life for the people in the community.

Hon. Obi expressed her deepest gratitude to Chief Agbanari for his unwavering support and commitment to the development of his community, Idemili South and Anambra State, saying that Chief Agbanari’s contributions have been instrumental in initiating numerous projects in Nnobi, and his continued backing has been a significant factor in the council’s ability to drive positive change.

* A group of Active Citizens, Anambra Central Senatorial District has threatened to recall Chief Victor Uneh over alledged lack of transparency and Accountability on constituency project implementation.

The group also cited poor welfare package for constituents as another reason for planned recall of Umeh who is the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District.

The recall threat was contained in a press statement subject: “Fraudulent Activities of Senator Vuctor Umeh, and other representatives of Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly; lack of transparency and accountability in new/ongoing constituency projects, which a copy was sent to Senator Umeh’s Constituency office in Awka and also made available to Journalists.

* The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to religious tolerance and inclusivity as officials joined the Muslim faithful to break their Ramadan fast at the Awka Central Mosque.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Mr. Ossy Onuko, emphasized the importance of unity, peace and coexistence among different religious groups in the state.

Mr. Onuko described the visit as a gesture of empathy and solidarity, acknowledging the sacrificial essence of Ramadan while recognizing the significant role of the Muslim community in Anambra.

 

* The Joint Security Team in coordinated operations on Saturday rescued three kidnap victims along Onitsha/Owerri Express Road, Ozubulu.

The victims were rushed to the hospital by the joint security team following various degrees of injury already inflicted on them by the criminals.

According to a press release by SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, they are currently responding to treatment and shall subsequently be debriefed by the Police.

“Different security checkpoints in the State were alerted when the information of their abduction at Nkwelle-Ezunaka in Oyi Local Government was reported for possible rescue and arrest of the criminals”.

The Commissioner of Police CP. Ikioye Orutugu while charging the Operatives to redouble their efforts for possible arrest of the criminals, assured ndi Anambra of the Command’s commitment to protection of lives and properties and sustained onslaught to continue to deny the criminals the space to commit havoc.

* A middle-aged woman has been killed by a stray bullet at Amaeze village, Mgbakwu, in Awka North Council Area of Anambra State.

The victim, a young tailor, was in her shop when a stray bullet fatally struck her.

Eyewitnesses reported that members of the Agụnechemba security outfit, which includes vigilante operatives, were conducting an operation in the area shortly before the incident occurred.

According to residents, multiple gunshots were heard for an extended period before the security team departed the scene.
