* The Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries of Anambra State (ARPSAS) has inaugurated a new executive leadership, with Chief Sir Nwabuonu Ogbaji, assuming office as chairman.
The transition took place during the association’s first meeting of the year, 2025, in Awka the State Capital.
In his inaugural address, Sir Nwabuonu reaffirmed the association’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of Retired Permanent Secretaries, advocating for pension harmonization for members and fostering collaboration with the State Government.
He praised the outgoing executive for keeping the flag of the Association flying and securing a legal victory against the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), which had contested ARPSAS’s right over membership dues. The implementation of the court ruling, he said, was currently being followed up accordingly.
* Police Operatives attached to B Division with some Mobile Police Men of 29 Squadron on Stop and Search along Enugu/Onitsha Expressway, Amansea intercepted a tricycle with Reg No. BBG 767 QH, driven by one Augustine Okafor ‘M’ wearing Army Camouflage trousers.
During interrogation, the suspect could not provide a satisfactory answer, which caused the Operatives to search him and recover One Berreta pistol, seven live ammunition, cash of fifteen thousand, six hundred Naira only (#15,600), substances suspected to be hard drugs and charms.
The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu directs the immediate transfer of the Case to the Command Tactical Unit for a discreet investigation.
The CP further notes that the Anambra Police Operatvies are more motivated and has been actively working to combat crime and ensure public safety in the State.
* The Anambra State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barr Anthony Ifeanya, says Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is making plans to introduce modern technology in mining practices in the state, to encourage global best practices in the mining sector.
The Commissioner disclosed this while inaugurating a new Executive Committee, Miners Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
Congratulating the members of the committee and others who had worked tirelessly towards bringing the association to fruition, Commissioner Ifeanya described the association as an umbrella body for all miner associations in the state, which, he said, comprised sand miners, burrow pits, quarries and clay miners, among others.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has congratulate the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia as it celebrates its fifth anniversary.
Soludo while speaking, expressed his support for the initiative, stating that it aligns with his administration’s values of compassion and empathy.
Governor Soludo alongside other distinguished guests, congratulated the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia on its milestone anniversary and pledged his commitment to supporting the diocese’s humanitarian efforts.
During the ceremony, His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke unveiled his vision to build a welfare home for the aged and vulnerable, a project aimed at providing care and support to those in need.
* Police Operatives attached to the Obosi Division on intelligent-led patrol along the Obosi/Nkpor Road arrested one Kosiso Okonwko and recovered one Berreta pistol.
According to a press release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, the suspect confessed to being a member of Aye Confertanity.
* Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, has denied allegations made by Sahara Reporters that he received dollars to support the State of Emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State.
In a statement, Umeh warned Sahara Reporters to cease their serial blackmail against him, stating that this was the third time the outfit had published false information about him.
He emphasized that he did not receive any money to support the Approval of the State of Emergency in Rivers State and was not present at the alleged Meeting where $10,000 was allegedly made to 42 Senators, let alone being one of the Key Figures that organized the Event.
* A Joint Security team comprising the Police, Military, Civil Defence, AVG Ichida, and Ihiala respectively has secured the release of Rev. Father Stephen Echezona at Ihiala. The priest was returned unharmed.
According to a press statement signed by
SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, the victim was abducted at a fuel station in Ichida, where a joint security force in an ensuing gun duel with the armed criminals operating in a white Lexus SUV without plate number.
The assailants abandoned the white Lexus and in a bid to flee the scene due to the superior fire power of the Joint Security Team, fled the scene, and held the Rev. Father hostage. The operatives also recovered the white Lexus vehicle.
In a coordinated hot chase by the Operatives, different security checkpoints and security operatives in the State were alerted, which resulted in the criminals abandoning the Priest at Ihiala and escaping through a nearby bush.
The Joint Security Team have taken over the scene in Ihiala for possible arrest of the armed criminals and recovery of the Toyota Highlander belonging to the Rev. Father.
* Friends and well-wisher gathered in Awka to celebrate an impactful life of Justice Godwin Ononiba who celebrated his eighty eight birthday and launched a book of his journey in life titiled’ Wisdom On The Bench. Enduring Legacy Of Justice Godwin Ononiba,”.
Justice Ononiba retired as a Chief Judge of Anambra State, held so many positions, and still the current Traditional Prime Minister of Nimo, Njikoka Council Area, his home town.
Felicitating with the men of bench and bar as well as Ononiba family, Governor, Chukwuma Soludo said its rear to see people who pen down their journey and experiences in life for others to toe and emulate from and extolled the celebrant’s impact in the judicial system where he put in more energy to better the judicial system of the state and as well eager to write at the age of eighty eight.
Soludo further described the state judiciary as the most hard working in the country asking them to follow the footsteps of Justice Ononiba to be transparent, honest and just in all their dealings as they are the voice of the voiceless.
* CAPAD Nigeria Limited, Awka, has opened a cooking gas station. This comes after its filling station was first opened on the 6th of November, 2019.
The grand opening was honoured by his Lordship, Most Rev. Paulinus C. Ezeokafor, the Catholic Bishop of Awka.
The CAPAD Company Nigeria limited, is located at Awka South, Anambra State, it is a company that deals with, both fuel and gas and has a supermarket within the filling station.
Bishop Ezeokafor commended the efforts of the Manager of CAPAD Company Nigeria limited, Rev. Fr. Anthony Nwachukwu Igboamalu, thanking him for the progress he had made so far.

The recipients were members of CWO from Onitsha Archdiocese, Aguleri Diocese, Diocese on the Niger, Ogbaru , Niger West, and Mbammili Dioceses of the Anglican communion.
Senator Nwoye also donated a Toyota car to a friend of his, Chief Ossy Chinwuba, in appreciation for his steadfastness over the years.
Handing over the bale of the wrappers Senator Nwoye said he decided to gift mothers because they are special and important breed, people who make all the difference in the society.
