* A group, Anambra Man Of The Year (AMTY), has conferred various categories of awards to forty philanthropists in Anambra State.
The awardees includes, the former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone, Founder of Falcon Corporation Limited, Prof Joe Ezigbo, the South East Chairperson of Manaufacturer Association of Nigeria (MAN), lady Ada Chukwudozie, founder, Ide Global Movement, Chief Dr Azubuike Austin Ekweozor the Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Prof Tessy Obumneme Okoli, Anambra State Correspondent of Arise Television, Mr. Emeka Monye, among others
In his opening address, the founder of the group, Comrade Chinedu Okafor, said the awards has no political undertone but a recognition to people who have in one way or another contributed to human capital development in the state.
* Ahead of the planned bye election in Anambra South Senatorial District to filled the vacuum of late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah at the National Assembly, a political group, Coalition Of Anambra South Progressives (COASOP), has called on the
All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, the All Progressive Congress APC, People Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party and other political parties intending to participate in the election to choose their candidates from Nnewi North Local Government Area of the State for the sake of equity.
The coalition also lamented the decaying state of infrastructure in the senatorial district following the sudden death of Senator Ubah, who represented the zone.
Speaking further on the decaying situation, the leader of the coalition, Mr Obi Chukwuemeka called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to quickly kickstart the process for the replacement of the late senator, giving the commission two months to do so.
* Ifite-Ani Nimo Ward 2 Village Councillors paid a courtesy visit to Mayor of Njikoka, Hon. Chinedu Ononiba.
The visit was led by Mr. Emeka Anyajugo, Chairman of Village Councillors, who praised the Mayor for his good work in the local government. He commended the local government Chairman for his efforts to promote good governance in Njikoka. He stated that most of the members of other political parties have joined APGA because of the conduct of Mayor Njikoka and promised to deliver in the forthcoming election.
Responding, Ononiba thanked the councillors of Ifite-Ani, Nimo for the visit and urged them to support the vision and leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for a prosperous homeland. He admonished the village councillors to always abide by the Cardinal Principle of APGA (onye ahana nwanne ya).
* The chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area Hon. Echezona Anazodo took Chief. Cletus Ibeto to the ukwaka bridge construction site to witness the level of progress already achieved.
In his speech, Chief Ibeto expressed satisfaction with the leadership of Hon. Anazodo’s administration stressing that Nnewi is on the right direction in terms of leadership.
Ibeto ceased the opportunity to call on ndi Nnewi to support the government of Anambra State and Nnewi North LGA for a speedy recovery of our glory as a industrial hub of Anambra State through the provisions of Infrastructural facilities to our dear town
In his remark, Hon. Anazodo emphasized that his efforts is inline with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra State and Nnewi North in particular a livable and prosperous homeland We all would be proud of.
* The Mayor of Idemili South local government area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi
has commend the Convener of Soludo Women’s Movement effort to the progress of the group.
Speaking at the summit held at Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, the Mayor said women contributes a lot to the progress of the society.
Obi stated that Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo are doing wonderfully well, touching the lives of the people and empowering youths and women in the state.
While urging them to take the message of Solution government to every nook and crannies in their wards, she appealed to them to embrace healthy living initiative championed by Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo, especially routine saturday workout session and cultivating healthy living garden at the backyard of their homes.
* The Chairman of Anambra State Football Association (FA), General Chikelue Ilonyeosi says Super Eagles played with confidence that has been lacking for a while against Rwanda national team.
Ilonyeosi while reacting after the Super Eagles win after Rwanda stated that he expects to see a more ruthless team against Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
Ilonyeosi, the chairman of Anambra State FA poured praises on the new coach of the team Eric Chelle, for changing the mentality of the players, as they exhibited strong passion and determination against Rwanda, which ensured that Nigeria won 2-0 away two years after Nigeria’s last away win.
Speaking on the upcoming Tuesday game the Anambra FA boss maintained that Super Eagles players should not see Zimbabweaan players as children, the team is strong and hardly give up.
* Coca-Cola foundation in collaboration with TechnoServe Nigeria have donated Trucks to private-owned waste recycling companies in Anambra State.
The handover was performed by the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu in the presence of Coca-Cola Foundation and Technoserve officials at Jerome Udorji Secretariat in Awka.
Speaking during the handover, Odimegwu Stated that the initiative was in line with the agenda of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in making sure that circular economy takes center stage in the state.
The Commissioner emphasized that the gesture was in view of the Plastic recycling programme for southern Nigeria to support plastic recycling industries in the state. He urged all private recycling companies in the state to come forward and affiliate with the state government as that would align them with opportunities such as this.
Beneficiaries of the trucks includes: Obicharis Multiventures, OU Cintia Resources, J Mandis Ltd, WCO Global Concept, Igwe Petrochemical and Wastebox Services.
* In line with the enhanced policing guidelines of the Inspector-General of Police, the Anambra State Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu and his Enugu State counterpart, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, met to devise operational strategies aimed at proactively policing the two neighbouring States.
The Commissioners identified the infiltration of criminals between the neighbouring States as a major security challenge requiring urgent intervention to address violent crimes and the activities of subversive criminal elements.
As a result, they pledged to collaborate, share intelligence, and pool operational resources to combat violent crimes at the borders and within their respective states.
The Commissioners reiterated their commitment to decisively combat all forms of crime and criminality in both States, with the aim of ensuring maximum public security and safety.
They also warned criminals operating in the two states to either repent or be ready to face the full weight of the law.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has presented a cheque of N500,000 as a cash award to Miss Ifebude Chelsea Benson, the overall best candidate in the 2023 National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.
Miss Ifebude, a native of Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area of the state, scored A1 in all nine subjects she took during the examination.
The State Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, presented the award on behalf of the Governor to the recipient, who was represented by her father, Mr Ben Benson.
According to the Commissioner, the award was the governor’s way of encouraging academic excellence among Anambra pupils and students.
* Anambra State has witnessed the biggest award ceremony as The Anambra Man Of The Year (AMTY) Award holds the 4th edition of AMTY Award which according to the co- organizers, Mr Chimezie Chiedu was aimed at celebrating the outstanding and exceptional Ndi Anambra in various field of human endeavors with the theme “Gbakotanu ka Anyi Dozie Obododike.
In her speech Professor Cecilia Eme called for all hands to be on deck in tackling societal challenges as government can not do it alone hence the theme Gbakotanu ka Anyi Dozie Obododike, charging parents to transfer the rich Igbo cultural heritage through the transfer of Igbo language to their children to sustain the language.
