* The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programmes, Dr Nelson Omenugha has maintained that the Governor’s performance and achievements under two years in office are clear demonstration of his determination to make a Anambra a preferred destination to invest, live, relax and work. Dr Omenugha emphasized that Soludo’s milestone across all sectors are promises kept while analyzing Governor Soludo’s two years in office on “Nigeria Kwenu” TV show. He noted that under two years of Governor Soludo, no sector has been left behind, from infrastructure development, education, health, agriculture, youth development, welfare of workers and retirees, people living with disabilities and old people, environment, social amenities among others.
* The Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Ernest Ezeajuhi has re-emphasized that the Governor recognizes that his mandate is an agenda with a deadline which he said has influenced the speed at which the government is implementing transformative reforms and infrastructural upgrade. Ezeajughi recalled that the Governor encountered a landscape beset with a myriad of challenges including insecurity, infrastructural deficit, and environmental threats that all demanded immediate and strategic responses. The Chief of Staff who was speaking in Awka while recounting the state of Anambra when the Governor assumed office, said that two years ago, many communities in the state were fraught with danger making journey through the various parts of the state as unthinkable due to the prevailing insecurity, while the fabric of road networks was an emblem of decay.
* Former Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2021 guber election in Anambra State, Mr Valentine Chineto Ozigbo, has described governor Chukwuma Soludo two-years administration as not impressive. Ozigbo in interactive meeting with journalists in Awka at the weekend said he waited to assess Governor Chukwuma Soludo after two years in office, before deciding whether he will run or not. Ozigbo said after two years, he is not impressed with Soludo’s achievements, saying that because of that, he has decided that he will contest the 2025 governorship election in the state.
* Anambra’s First Lady Mrs Nonye Soludo, has described the passing of Obosi-born legendary Nollywood icon, Chief Amaechi Muonagor as heartbreaking. Mrs Soludo who disclosed this in statement released in Awka, remembered her last visit to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi, in December last year, where the Nollywood veteran was receiving treatment. The Governor’s wife said that from her chats with Chief Muonagor and the assurances by the medical team at the hospital, she had hoped for a more positive outcome, regretting that every effort to save him did not bring the results that she desired.
* Anambra State Government in a bid to protect the girl child from Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection will this year, implement campaign against the disease in all local government areas (LGAs). Commissioner for Information, Anambra State, Sir Paul Nwosu, through a release stated that the campaign is being organized by Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), in collaboration with National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and partners (UNICEF, WHO, GAVI, CHAI, etc). According to the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, ASPHCDA, Pharm. Mrs Chisom F. Uchem, eligible target groups for the vaccination are girl children between 9 years and 14 years.
* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, has expressed deep concern about the epileptic nature of power supply in Anambra, saying it is shameful that a state that prides itself as the Light of the Nation cannot boast of electricity, reports Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu.
Bishop Ezeokafor who stated this at the International Conference and Convention Centre, Awka, while delivering a homily during a Thanksgiving Mass organized in honour of the Governor’s Two Years in Office, urged Soludo to find a way to address the constant power outage, noting that a state like Anambra should be enjoying uninterrupted power supply, adding that the Dubai-Taiwan Mantra would not be achieved when darkness had enveloped every nook and crannies of the state.
* The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has come hard on Labour Party (LP) chieftain, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, for scoring Soludo low in his achievements in the past two years as governor of Anambra State. Ozigbo had while speaking with journalists at the weekend said he was unimpressed with Soludo’s performance after two years as governor, and that he has decided to contest the 2015 governorship election in Anambra, to replace him. But APGA reacting to this
through the media and publicity secretary of the party, Mr Ejimofor Opara said Ozigbo is simply looking for an alibi to declare his intention to run for governorship, so as to rake in donations for his campaign.
* Sports world have been enjoined to take education seriously. The advice was given by the Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Okoye while speaking as the Chief Guest of Honor at the 10th Inter House Sports Competition of Kabe College, Amawbia held at Awka City Stadium. Hon. Okoye, an alumnus of the college said that education hold the key to development of various fields of endeavor.
* Onyinyeomachukwu Empowerment Foundation, has offered scholarships to one hundred (100) indigent pupils of Living Christ Nursery/Primary School Onitsha, Anambra State. The foundation also donated healthy living materials, such as toilet tissues, tooth blush, hand sanitizers, hand washers and closed ups kits for 700 pupils in the school. The Foundation equally launched it Health Post and Nature Mother Nature Initiative (Save The Mother Earth) programmes in the school premises to promote a healthy living among the students, staff and the Onitsha residents at large.
* The Anambra State Commissioner for Special Duties, Honourable Barrister Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche says the Anambra State government is prioritizing the provision of fire hydrants and stations in all major markets in the state to increase response time to fire emergencies. Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche stated this in a press statement earlier in Awka in reaction to the midnight fire that totally razed four shops and affected about eight others at ATD Line, Building Materials, Bridge Head Market, Onitsha. The Commissioner while consoling the victims that lost their goods running into millions of naira to the fire, revealed that the Anambra State government understands that reducing the number of fire incidents in the state is a very critical catalyst for realizing its vision of a livable homeland.
