# A bill for the establishment, regulation and management of market and for connected purposes has been passed into law at the Anambra State House of Assembly.
The Executive bill was passed during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, after it scaled first, second, and third readings following the invocation of Section 14, Subsection 74(1) of the House Standing Orders, on Tuesday.
Leading the debate on the bill, the Majority Leader, Sir. Ikenna Ofodeme, described it as timely, noting that Anambra remains a major commercial hub whose economic strength must be protected.

explained that the bill is designed to check activities that disrupt business operations, particularly the enforcement of unlawful sit-at-home directives, which have negatively affected trade and internally generated revenue.
# After giving out their family land in 1960 for the building of a school, which today is Comprehensive Secondary School, Nawfia, the owners of the land now, want it returned to them owing to developments not acceptable to the original owners.
The Traditional Ruler of Nawfia, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo, made this known to newsmen recently.
His grouse is that after giving out the land, they are now being told they did not give out the land to those using it now; even as the main person involved was not in the picture at the time the land was given.
He said that they in turn, gave the bishop the power of attorney and started selling the land to a point that they sold the junior school field in that school, as well as the school property that was given to them.
The monarch said this was the chief reason they now want the land back with the school, even as he added that it did not mean they were going to disturb the school which is now run by the Anglican Mission.
# The Anambra State House of Assembly has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo, and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, on their successful inauguration for a second term in office.
The 8th Assembly at plenary presided by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze through a resolution commended Soludo and Ibezim for giant strides in the last four years.
Sponsor of the motion, Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke, who is the lawmaker representing Aguata one constituency noted that the Prof. Soludo and his Deputy Dr. Ibezim were inaugurated for their second term on March 17, 2026, following what he described as overwhelming support from Ndi Anambra, who re-elected the administration with over 73 percent of the total votes cast.
Hon. Okpalaeke observed that the first tenure of the Soludo-led administration was marked by what he described as unprecedented and transformative achievements across critical sectors of the state’s economy.
# Nigerian Army has distributed educational materials to management, teachers and pupils of Ogwumabiri Primary school in Lilu, Ihiala LGA.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army Enugu, Brig Gen SA Jimoh presented schools bags and exercise books on behalf Major Gen. Oluremi Fadairo.
Gen. Jimoh said the gesture was to give beneficiaries sense of belonging as well as inspire them to pursue academic excellence while creating atmosphere of Comradie with the community.
According to Jimoh, the Army as is their tradition to enhance academic excellence and Civil/Military relationship decided to put smiles on the faces of the pupils of the school by sharing out quality school bags and exercise books to students.
# Anambra State House of Assembly at plenary, confirmed the appointment of Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) as the Attorney General and Mr. Izunna Okafor as Commissioner for Finance.
The nominees appeared before the House for screening and confirmation,
following their nomination by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
During the confirmation, lawmakers assessed Nweke and Okafor’s professional competence, experience, and readiness to contribute to the development of Anambra state.
In his remarks, Barrister Nweke assured the House of his determination to initiate reforms in the judicial sector, particularly in enhancing access to justice, strengthening legal institutions, and ensuring the rule of law across the state.
On his part, Mr. Okafor expressed gratitude to the Governor and the Assembly for the opportunity to serve, promising to bring prudence, innovation, and fiscal discipline to the management of the state’s finances.
# The Management of FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited (FirstPower) has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the allegation that the Company levied the sum of Two Million, One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦2.1 million) on residents of Amudo Community, Awka, Anambra State, for the repair of a vandalized transformer serving the area.
The investigation followed an allegation raised during the Company’s Customer Engagement Forum held in Awka, where a resident of Amudo Village, Mr. Okechukwu Obeta, claimed that the villagers were asked to contribute the said amount to fix the faulty transformer.
Mr. Obeta, who also identified himself as a journalist with The Leadership Newspaper, stated at the forum that he had already published a news report on the matter and the alleged extortion, insisting that the action was illegal.
Reacting to the claim, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FirstPower, Engr. Okechukwu Okafor, expressed surprise at the allegation, stating that the Management was not aware of any such directive or action by any staff of the Company.

# The National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), Prince Emeka Kalu, says his administration is embarking on critical engagement and strategic partnerships with relevant agencies to reposition the union for the better.
Prince Kalu, who stated this during his homecoming and first official visit to the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Onitsha Station, noted that ABS Onitsha, where he started his broadcasting journey, was the headquarters of the Anambra Broadcasting Service when the state was carved out of the old Anambra State.
Kalu pointed out that ABS is the number one station in the country by virtue of producing the number one citizen of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union.
He stressed that one of his 12-point agenda is to give the union greater visibility, which he is diligently
pursuing, added that his leadership is working on infrastructural development, welfare packages for members, training, prompt salary payment, among others, and charged ABS Onitsha staff to remain committed to their duties.
