* Government of Anambra State is leading the way to fashion out measures to mitigate flood disasters before it happens in coastal areas of the state. This gave birth to a collaboration of the state government, a German non-governmental organization, Heinrich Böll, and an architectural firm in organizing a workshop on “Flood Resilient Solutions In Anambra State.”
* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed deep sadness over the news of the passing of Nollywood actor and producer, Mr. Amaechi Muonagor, aged 62. The Governor in his condolence message acknowledged the vital contributions that the late actor made to the entertainment industry in Nigeria, describing him as a consummate professional, a great gentleman and a distinguished son of Anambra State. Soludo further recalled that Mr. Muonagor, a native Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, brought countless moments of laughter and joy to audiences across Nigeria and beyond in his sterling acting career over many years.
* Lovecare for the Needy Foundation, LCNF, marked 25 years anniversary of humanitarian services, and seven years of being on air for same purpose. The event held in Awka, the Anambra State capital, also provided opportunity to solicit help for a 13-year-old Precious Enyinta; from Izzi, Ebonyi State, who needs surgery on the leg. In his opening remark, the Chairman of the event, Chief Chuba Odua, explained that the event was to celebrate success stories and rekindle the fire of love among the people, and thanked the host for championing the call for help for people in need.
* Scores of traders at A. T. D line Building Materials, Bridge Head Market, Onitsha, Anambra State have been thrown into mourning following midnight fire that gutted the market, destroying their goods worth billions of naira. The fire, according to eye witnesses, completely razed four shops and affected about eight others with goods running in millions lost to the inferno. Narrating his ordeals, one of the victims, Chigozie Akabuogu an Iron and steel dealer, whose shop was affected, said many of them were still counting their losses after the ugly incident.
* The rich cultural heritage of Akwu-Ukwu community was showcased when they celebrated the last Ofala festival of their Traditional ruler, Igwe Thomas Offokaja who joined his ancestors over 32 years ago. The event which took place at the Igwe’s palace attracted royal fathers, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Council Area, Mrs Amaka Obi, other top government officials friends, relatives and well-wishers of the community. The Anambra State Commissioner for Entertainment, Culture and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, an indigene of the community and also maternal uncle to the Igwe Offokaja, described the event as a long awaited one, adding that a community without a king misses a lot of opportunities like some traditional rights and chieftaincy titles, and called on the family to be courageous and toe the great legacies their father left for them.
* Nnamdi Azikiwe University Business School (UBS) has commenced Post-Graduate and Certificate courses for effective leadership and management in Businesses, Economy and Governance.
The Director, UNIZIK Business School, Professor Chinedu Onyeizugbe, who disclosed this in a chat with newsmen to mark commencement of the new admission season said the move was part of the school’s commitment to making education accessible to all. The Business School is a management, business, governance and leadership training institution which ranks among the top three business schools in Nigeria.
* Anambra governor’s wife and founder of the non-governmental crusade, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has dismissed the notion that living healthy is an expensive choice.
Speaking in one of her Healthy Living Diary series which is now available on the healthy living youtube page, the governor’s wife explained that the only costly thing about living healthy is the mindset of the individual which must be decisive and disciplined to live within the context of health consciousness. She noted that the choice of what one consumes or how one keeps their body, does not cost a fortune, stressing that healthy living, in its real understanding, is all about simple practices that are guided by strong principles.
* The national convention of the Labour Party (LP) planned to hold at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Umuahia, in Abia state has been moved to Anambra state. The change of the venue took some members of the party by surprise as they had booked and paid for hotel accommodation. A letter dated, March 20, signed by the national chairman of the party, Julius Abure and the party’s national secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk disclosed that the new venue of the congress would be Grand Masons Hotel, Nnewi, Anambra state.
* The Anambra State Government has addressed misinformation currently circulating online concerning the Ochanja-Iweka Road project in the state.
Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor in a release, stated that these claims are not true.
* Some Ukwulu community stakeholders, Dunukofia local government area of Anambra State have dusted the allegations of unethical practice leveled against the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, SPACAS, Obosi Sector, Anambra State, describing the allegations as malicious and a paid article targeted to discredit the anti- cult warlords. ANN recall that SPACAS, Obosi Sector had last Monday stormed the Ukwulu community, launched a serious manhunt on suspected criminal elements, arrested 24 suspects through a tip-off after screening them, and those who were found culpable were granted bail pending the day they will be charged to the court of competent jurisdiction.
