* Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to re-establish a newspaper organization to replace the defunct National Light Newspapers and employ at least 100 journalists of different cadre to start up a new digital newspaper industry with prospects in the State.
The Council which made the call at the end of the March 2025 Congress presided over by the Chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka, regretted that no journalist has been employed in the last 3 years of Soludo’s administration, noting that they and student journalists on industrial attachment were left behind in honing their trade as well as creating a big vacuum in the profession.
Appreciating the Governor for clearing a good number of pension and gratiuities owed workers since he came on board, the Council appealed to him to consider the plight of workers of the defunct National Light Newspaper that were owed six years leave allowance as a mark of leave no one behind mantra of APGA.
* The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Council, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba is set to launch a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering the 18 wards in the LGA.
The project, valued at (twenty-five million naira) ₦25,000,000, will be rolled out across all the council wards in Njikoka, with each ward empowered to choose a project that best addresses the needs of its people.
The initiative, sponsored by the Ononiba administration, is designed to bring development closer to the grassroots and ensure that every ward benefits from targeted infrastructural projects.
This move is in line with the Mayor’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and development across Njikoka.
* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) Anambra State Command and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) have brokered a partnership to tackle the menace of substandard products in the state.
This resolution was made when Engr. Emmanuel Hussaini, the State Coordinator 1 and Engr. Unuja Ndukwe , the Head of Inspectorate and Compliance Directorate, South South and South East Region of SON paid a familiarization visit to Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant at the Command Headquarters Awka.
Comdt. Maku in his speech, commended SON for not relenting in its regulatory functions to reduce the impact of substandard products on the economy and health of Nigerians. Acknowledging the historical support of NSCDC to SON, Maku appreciated the enforcement and compliance roles being played by SON in quality control and verification of products.
* Anambra State House of Assembly have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Chukwuma Soludo and commended his transformative and developmental strides across the state.

* A devastating fire has swept through the Electronics Market in Iweka, Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State, destroying goods valued at millions of naira.
According to the market chairman, Mr. Godwin Akuebue, the blaze occurred around 9 p.m.
Mr. Akuebue revealed that the fire ravaged 57 shops, loaded with goods, leaving them in ruins. The incident has left traders in the market counting their losses.
According to him, he and some of the traders in the market hurriedly contacted the Director of Anambra Fire Service, Mr. Emmanuel Chicheta who deployed his men to the fire scene.
* The Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly and the member representing Ogbaru Constituency two, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze have facilitated the full scale supervision and detailed evaluation of the re-electrification demands, in a bid to restore Power in OBEAGWE, AKILI OGIDI & OGWUIKPELE Communities of OGBARU.
These communities have been cut off from electric supply between 2010 & 2011, the devastating effect of the 2012 flooding which vandalized electric poles, dislodged electric cables and made unusable of almost all the electric transformers which energize these communities further plunged these communities into untold hardship.
The onfield Survey which targets, replacement of over 70-90 fallen electric poles, electric cables and replacement of about 5 transformers is expected to be presented to the ministry of power and adequate follow up to ensure that these communities are re-connected.
* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command is intensifying its efforts to combat illegal mining activities across the state.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Commandant stated this in Awka on Thursday while meeting with the Miners Association of Nigeria, Anambra State chapter.
Maku noted a conspicuous discrepancy in the mining sector, where numerous companies are operating, but only a handful have obtained the necessary licenses. The commander vowed to take decisive action against unlicensed miners, signaling a crackdown on illegal mining operations in the state.
* President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has characterized the passing of former National Electoral Commission (NEC) Chairman, Professor Humphrey Nwosu, as a profound loss to Nigeria.
Tinubu who was represented by the
Minister for Works, Engr. Dave Umahi while speaking on Friday during the
funeral service held in Nwosu’ ancestral home in Ajali, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, urged Nigerians to reflect upon the significant contributions to the country’s democratic process. He called for a united effort among citizens to harness the benefits of democracy and honour Nwosu’s legacy.
In his tribute, Governor Chukwuma Soludo noted Professor Nwosu’s crucial role as a peacemaker. He urged residents of the state to prioritize efforts that foster lasting peace within their communities.
He also highlighted the necessity of posthumously honoring Nwosu, recognizing his achievement in conducting what has been described as Nigeria’s freest and most transparent elections.
* The local government Chairman of Njikoka Barr. Chinedu Ononiba has reiterated his full support for empowering and inspiring the youth of Anambra State.
Speaking at the at the Anambra Student Maiden Leadership Summit, themed “Solution Era.” endorsed by the National Union of Anambra State Students (NUASS), APGA Solution Student Wing, and ASATU Student Wing, took place at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Agu-Awka, the Mayor underscored the importance of education and leadership in creating a brighter future for the next generation, encouraging students to engage in meaningful leadership roles that would help the state progress.
In his address, the National President of NUASS, Comr. Felix Chiemelie Nwachinemelu, thanked government functionaries for their presence and support in making the summit a great success.
The summit provided a valuable platform for promoting leadership skills and fostering discussions on the role students play in contributing positively to societal growth and change. It also encouraged collaboration between students, political leaders, and stakeholders to drive the state’s development agenda forward.
* Anambra Central Senator, Dr. Victor Umeh, has launched a four-day multi-million naira training and empowerment workshop focused on modern agricultural production for 500 constituents.
The training, conducted by the Federal College of Agriculture Ishiagu Ebonyi State in collaboration with Skaidon International Limited, kicked off at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church Hall Adazi-Nnukwu, in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State.
Senator Umeh’s Senior Legislative Aide, Mr. Chijioke Ifekpolugo urged participants to attend all sessions promptly to maximize the benefits of the training and access available resources.
He assured them that, beyond the training, they would receive necessary tools and resources to put their new knowledge into practice.
