* Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has reiterated her preparedness to lead from the front in the ongoing fight to beat the menace of drug abuse in the state. Mrs Soludo stated this when officers and men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) visited her at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia.

Addressing the visitors, the Anambra Firstlady expressed deep concern about what she described as “scary statistics of a common menace,” and called for a more sincere and committed approach to the war against drugs, beginning from identifying the producers of the deadly substances. She noted that though her non-governmental movement, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, has been leading the drug elimination campaign, there is a great need for a united response in the face of what drug abuse and its prevalence done to the society, especially the youth.

* An assessment team of stakeholders from ministries, departments, agencies and civil society organization, CSOs, has embarked on an aggressive oversight function of the activities and success stories of the FGN/IFAD Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP in Anambra State for transparency and accountability. Members of the team, led by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, were drawn from the Ministries of Agriculture,  Economic Planing and Budget, office of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on strategy, evaluation and execution, State project coordinating unit, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, state coordinating office of VCDP and civil society organizations. The team toured market infrastructures, solar powered boreholes, processing and aggregation centers, culverts, bridges and developed lands among others executed in Ogbaru and Awka North Council areas by FGN IFAD VCDP for farmers and host communities in general.

* The field of Afor Adike, venue of ito-Ogbo Obosi festival 2024 was filled to capacity as people came from different places to participate in the ceremony. Over 100 persons both men and women from the age of 80, known as Oforka age grade, beautifully dressed and accompany by relatives and Traditional music dancers joyfully arrived the venue. Igwe Iweka while breaking the kolanut, prayed for peace, health, long life and blessings upon the people.

* National Association of Persons with Physical Disability (NAPWPD), Anambra State Chapter, has passionately appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, and other good-spirited people for assistance to lift their burden of mobility in the state. The group which made the plea at an event in Amawbia also suggested the provision of buses with assistive devices like automatic ramps. NAPWPD said the economic situation of things in the land had affected the price of assistive devices and mobility aid Such are wheelchairs, crutches, surgical boots, and prosthetic arms or legs, among others which are mostly imported into the country.

* Gen. Chikelue Iloenyosi has been awarded the Football Association (FA) Chairman of the year at the Sportsville Recognition Award Ceremony held on Friday at Eko Club, off Bode Thomas Street, Surulere Lagos. Iloenyosi who is the Anambra FA Chairman was recognized for his numerous contributions to Grassroot Football development. The former Super Eagles player after receiving the award, appreciated the organizers and pledged that the recognition will spur him on to do more especially in the area of grassroot football development.

* Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has launched her Healthy Living clubs in over 325 primary schools in Anambra State. The governor’s wife also inaugurated headteachers as Healthy Living Champions, while teachers who majored in Physical Health Education or related courses, who will lead the Healthy living clubs in the schools across the state, were inaugurated as ambassadors.

Inaugurating the school clubs at the headquarters of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) in Awka, Mrs Soludo said the day was very significant as it marked the beginning of a renewed dream driven by immense passion, saying the volunteers were taking up the responsibility to serve humanity.

* Anambra State government has demolished the two remaining three-storey buildings at Ọdụ Igbo section in Ochanja market, Onitsha South Council Area. Angel Network News recall that during his visit to the scene of the unfortunate incident, Governor Chukwuma Soludo gave the directive for the removal of the remaining structures, after three out of the five ongoing three-storey buildings in the market collapsed and left fatalities. Since the incident occured on Monday, Governor Soludo-led administration has continued to demomstrate empathy, as government officials continue to work on the scene to ensure that the directive of the Governor is fully implemented.

* Member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu has raised a clarion call for immediate action to address the escalating banditry attacks on communities in Awka North Local Government. Prof. Orogbu’s motion, titled “Banditry Attacks on Communities in Awka North Local Government,” highlights the urgency of the situation. She called upon the Federal government to swiftly deploy security personnel to safeguard these vulnerable communities. Additionally, she implores the Nigerian police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to conduct thorough investigations and ensure that the perpetrators face the consequences of their actions.

* The Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programme, Dr Nelson Omenugha has called on private individuals and cooperate bodies to partner the state government in the area of human capital development. Dr Omenugha made the call while discussing the “Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration and Youth development” on Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS flagship radio programme, “Nzuko Anambra”. Omenugha during the phone in programme explained the steps taken by Governor Soludo to address youth restiveness as an intentional approach to stimulate the economy, cub insecurity and build a bankable workforce.

* Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo watch the first lawn tennis training session of Ms. Tania Okpala at the City Sports Club, Awka. The governor’s wife, who recently paid for Tania’s application to join lawn tennis club, said that as Tania’s number one fan, she was excited to watch her play again. She noted that the training is part of the preparedness recovery routines for the ex-tennis star, as she believed that it will keep her busy, focused and mentally balanced.

* Traders at the fruits and Vegetables Market, Ogbaru say they have long settled down at the new market which is behind Power Mike stadium to do their  business. 

The traders, mostly women were relocated from Coke Market by the State Government in December, 2023.

Speaking in an interviews, a yam seller, Gloria Chibuzor said she buys yam from Igala which are offloaded in the market, adding that the market is spacious and comfortable to do business. Another trader who deals on Okro, Lady Ogechukwu Nwoyo said their business is moving on smoothly without any disturbance or extortion from anybody while Mrs. Ngozi Patrick who deals on watermelon said the era of doing business in a compacted environment is over, beckoning on other traders  selling perishable goods scattered in different places to join them.
