# The Anambra State Police Command has commenced activities marking the 2026 National Police Day celebration with a sanitation exercise and a free medical outreach aimed at promoting community health and strengthening police-community relations.
The event, which took place across the eight Area Commands as well as fifty-six Divisional Police headquarters locations in the State, saw officers and men of the Command actively participate in environmental sanitation, reinforcing the importance of a clean and healthy environment as part of public safety.
The Command also organized a free medical outreach where officers/residents benefitted from basic health checks and medical consultations.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, noted that the activities form part of a broader lineup of events scheduled to commemorate the National Police Day on April 7, 2026.
# Operatives of Anambra State Security outfit, Agunechemba, has arrested 20 suspected commercial female sex workers and 18 males in a brothel at Okpuno, Awka South LGA.
Among the apprehended males are the Manager of the brothel, the Supervisor, Bar Attendant and Storekeeper.
The Operatives swooped on brothel located at Y-Junction in Okpuno area of Awka, uncovering an alleged major criminal den serving as a prostitution and hard drug peddling hub.
During the raid, the team recovered some illicit drugs that include Tramadol, Indian hemp, nitrous oxide, rohypnol and one locally made single-barrel short gun.
The Manager of the Centre, Paul Chibuike admitted that drugs were sold in the area but denied ownership of the firearm.
Mr. Chibuike claimed that some of the suspects arrested as prostitutes were students who use the centre during weekends to make money for their upkeep.
In an interview with newsmen, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security Mr. Ken Emeakayi said following the discoveries and exhibits recovered from the brothel, would be confiscated by the Anambra State government based on the provisions of the Anambra State Homeland Security law 2025.
# The Joint Council of Knights, Province of the Niger, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion has frowned at the lack of equity and fair representation of all religious denominations in Soludo’s appointments so far.
In a message by the knights signed by the Chairman,Sir Ken Mmoya and Secretary Sir Henry N Agu, the knights commended the vision of the Governor for Anambra state.
The knights were worried that Ninety nine (99%) percent of the mayors and deputy mayors in the 21 local government areas in the just concluded APGA selective primaries for the forthcoming local government elections are from one religious denomination
# A security outfit under the Anambra State Government, Special Anti-Touting Squad, (SASA), has arrested the General Overseer of Jesus Is Ontop Ministry, Amichi, Evangelist Dozie Favour Ezeani, over alleged rape and impregnation of a 16-year-old girl.
The Managing Director of SASA, Mr. Monday Nwokoye, while presenting the alleged victim to journalists at the squad’s headquarters in Onitsha, stated that the case was reported by a security operative from Igboukwu, a neighbouring community where the incident allegedly occurred, leading to the arrest of the suspect, who is now in police custody for further investigation.
Nwokoye explained that the teenager was handed over to the evangelist by her aunt for what was described as “special deliverance”, only for the said evangelist to have canal knowledge of her severally, resulting in the victim getting pregnant.
SASA reiterated its commitment to collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served, and to protect victims of abuse.
# 21 ward chairmanship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State have taken legal action against the party, challenging what they described as an unlawful denial of nomination forms despite paying a total of N20 million.
The aspirants, who participated in preparations for the February 18, 2026 ward and local government congresses, filed a suit before the Federal High Court sitting in Awka.
They are seeking a declaration that they were entitled to be issued the forms necessary to contest in the exercise.
Through their counsel, Tagbo Ike (SAN), the plaintiffs argued that having paid the required fees into the party’s account, they should have been allowed to undergo screening and participate in the ward congresses in line with APC electoral guidelines.
# Librarian of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Prof. Stella Ngozi Anasi, has called on governments in Nigeria to prioritize reforms to reposition libraries as engines of national development.
Prof Anasi made the call while delivering UNIZIK’s 122nd Inaugural Lecture entitled, “The Neglected Goldmine: Repositioning Nigerian Libraries At A Critical Crossroads.”

# The Anambra State Government has demolished Airtight Guest House and Bar, located near Y-Junction in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, over its alleged use for unlawful activities.
The action followed a Saturday night raid by Agunaechemba security operatives, during which a large quantity of illicit drugs, a firearm, and individuals reportedly involved in prostitution were discovered on the premises.
the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi who supervised the demolition, stated that the activities carried out at the facility violated the state’s homeland security laws, justifying the government’s decision.
Emeakayi further disclosed that the property has been forfeited to the state government. He also cautioned landlords and property owners to regularly monitor their buildings and ensure they are not used for illegal activities by tenants.
