* A powerful herbalist and a native doctor, Chief Chukwuemeka Okwummo went for Thanksgiving at St Michael Catholic Church Ozubulu, Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State following a miraculous recovery from a life threatening ailment. Okwummo while speaking, acknowledged the healing power of the Almighty God during the life threatening sickness.
* Amidst the recent clashes in Umukwa, Umuogbunu, and Umudioka, villages in Awka, Anambra State, resulting in significant damage to community property, Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu, member Representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, has been at the forefront championing efforts for peace and reconciliation. Orogbu, represented by Sir Louis Ekene Orogbu, the Director General of the Federal constituency office, expressed deep concern over the extensive damage to community facilities during a survey conducted by the constituency office. She highlighted her dismay at the negative effects of cult-related activities on the growth and advancement of Awka town.
* The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter has described the purported impeachment of the national president of the association Isaiah Benjamin by some members of the National Executive Committee as a joke taken too far. In a communique signed by Chimezie Anaso and Uche Ndeke, Chairman and Assistant Secretary respectively on Sunday issued at the end of February Congress of the chapter in Awka, called on those behind the move to think twice a rethink and retrace their steps. SWAN Anambra, maintained its stand that there was no crisis in the national leadership of the body and that Isaiah Benjamin remained the duly elected and authentic president of the association following his emergence at Omoku, River State in July 2023
* The member representing Awka South One constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honorable Nigeria Henry Mbachu has taken a proactive stance to address the escalating tensions and property destruction in the wake of recent crises that have plagued Umudioka, Umukwa, and Umuogbunu villages, Accompanied by a group of stakeholders and village leaders, Mbachu recently, assessed the vandalised facilities allegedly targeted by a group of cultists in these communities. Mbachu stressed that conflicts are harmful to a society’s advancement, encouraging the conflicting villages to pursue peaceful solutions and discover shared interests for the improvement of their communities.
* Director General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. General Yashau Ahmed, has advised Corp Members deployed to Anambra not to relocate out of the state, saying the State is peaceful. The DG gave the advice while addressing 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Corp Members at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Unity Orientation Camp Umuawulu/ Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area of the state during the Scheme Cultural Carnival ceremony over the weekend.
Ahmed said the essence of the ceremony is to promote the oneness of Nigeria and its diverse cultures and traditions.
* The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a bill to include Anambra State in the newly constituted Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board. The bill titled “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Niger Delta Development Commission Act, Cap N86, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to Provide for inclusion of Anambra State as an Oil Producing State and for Related Matters (HBs. 154 & 857)” was co-sponsored by Rep. Paschal Agbodike and Rep. George Ibezimako Ozodinobi.
Angel Network News recalled that a similar bill was rejected at the Senate recently. It was rejected after it was brought on the floor by Senator Tony Nwoye who in his lead debate argued that Anambra State as an oil-producing state deserved to have membership in the NDDC. However, senators who argued against the bill said, states like Kogi and Lagos that have oil were also not covered by the NDDC.
* Eleven persons alleged to be behind cult-related killings and kidnappings in Ihiala Anambra state has been banished by the community leadership. The community which has borders with Imo State, has been battling insecurity in the past few years, such that many residents of the urban town have fled and relocated to safer areas. This was contained in a statement issued by the President-General of Ihiala Progressive Union, IPU, Barrister Okey Leo Ohagba.
*Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye has visited Onitsha to assess the security deployment on Monday. He also interacted with Shuttle drivers plying Upper Iweka Road to assess the return of commercial activities in the area. During interaction with the shuttle drivers, the CP was pleased to announce the lifting of curfew in Nnewi, Onitsha, and Ogbaru by the State Government and urge them to be law-abiding, vigilant, and promptly report acts of crime to the nearest police station or call the Command Control room the number on 07039194332 or the PRO on 08039334002 for any security-related matter for a prompt response. He also notes, “ in doing this, shows the act of patriotism to the nation and in return your safety is our responsibility”
