# The Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Judicial Service Commission, Barr. Stanley Mbanaso, says the commission’s complex was a bush when he came on board in 2018.
Mbanaso who spoke to journalists at the commission’s conference hall on the metamorphosis and achievements of the commission under him, said prior to its transition from being a den of reptiles and rodents, the commission had no visibility and the entire complex was completely dilapidated with very corrugated structures.
According to Mbanaso, his emergence turned the Anambra State Judicial Service Commission into a modern office complex with air-conditioned offices and a very serene environment.
He said people deserted the complex because of its deplorable condition but currently the commission is now the cynosure of her neighbours at Amawbia Awka-South Local Government Area of the state.
# The Medical Director, Beluchukwu Hospital and Maternity, Enugwu Ukwu Dr. Tochukwu Mbachi has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his successful first term in office.
In a press statement in Awka ahead of his inauguration for a second term in office on the 17th day of March 2026, Dr. Mbachi welcomed his advances in the health sector which have touched many lives in the free ante natal,free caesarian operations and other medi care in the public hospitals in the state.
The MD made special reference to the state insurance health policy which has saved many lives.
Dr. Mbachi, a former state chairman of the Nigerian Medical association and one time national officer of the NMA, expressed delight in the rehabilitation of general hospitals in the state, upgrading of facilities at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu teaching hospital Awka, the building of the Solution trauma ultra modern emergency centre within the teaching hospital complex,the recruitment of doctors and nurses and other categories of health practitioners in the state, among other feats.
# The lawmaker representing Onitsha-North One constituency in the 8th legislature of Anambra State, Hon. Barr. Mimi Azikiwe, has proposed an amendment to the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law 2026, to criminalize video recording, audio recording as well as screenshoting of sexual intimacy, personal nudity and other private moments without consents.
Proposing the amendment, Azikiwe stated that the social media and the Internet are repleted with issues and cases where private intimate moments between adults were exposed to the world basically for ulterior motives and without the consents of the victims.
She explained that if a loved one taking a shower or exposes his or her nakedness supposedly to someone in a video call doesn’t imply that the individual gave his or her consent to be recorded or screenshoted for some unconventional reasons.
# The Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, has described the agitation for special legislative seats for women as a just and progressive cause.
Igwe Iweka made the remark when a delegation from the Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC) paid him an advocacy visit at his palace in Obosi as part of activities under Project IMPACT – Inclusive Mobilization for Participation, Advocacy, and Civic Transformation.
The monarch commended SIDEC and other organizations championing the campaign for special seats for women in legislative chambers across Nigeria.
According to him, women have long been undervalued in leadership roles due to prevailing cultural norms. “This is a just cause because women are often underrated, undermined and underutilized, especially in Africa because of our cultural practices,” he said.
In her speech, Executive Director of SIDEC, Ugochi Ehiahuruike, explained that the proposed bill seeks to amend the Nigerian Constitution to reserve seats for women in the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly in order to address the severe underrepresentation of women in governance.
Ehiahuruike noted that Nigeria currently has only four female senators, 16 women in the House of Representatives and about 55 women across the 36 State Houses of Assembly.
# Anambra State House of Assembly urges Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to direct the Commissioners for Youth Development and that of Information to collaborate with relevant agencies within the social media space to initiate the promotion of sustainable and positive social media engagement among youths.
The Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye who sponsored the motion, in his submission, noted that social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok have become powerful tools of communication and influence among youths in Anambra state, shaping their thoughts, habits, and aspirations.
Rt. Hon. Okoye who is the lawmaker representing Awka South two Constituency maintained that while these platforms often expose youths to vices such as cyberbullying, fake news, and unproductive trends, they can also be harnessed to promote creativity, education, skills acquisition, Civic engagement, and entrepreneurship.
# The Administrative Judge of a High Court sitting in Ogbaru, Judicial Division, Anambra state, Justice Charles Okaa, has sentenced a vigilante operative, Onyeka Eze, to death by hanging for the murder of a phone repairer, Anayo Ugbo, at Okpoko Market.
Justice Okaa, convicted Eze, who hails from Enueiji in Ika North Local Government Area of Delta State for killing
Ugbo, was from Ogboji Ezzagu in Ishielu LGA of Ebonyi.
The prosecution, led by Assistant Chief State Counsel in the Anambra State Ministry of Justice, Mrs Chinyere Aganama-Onyeze, told the court that the incident occurred on May 5, 2022, at Shoe Site Market, Okpoko.
Aganama-Onyeze said the deceased, who was repairing a phone at the market, was summoned by the defendant, said to be a vigilante operative, to meet their boss.
According to the prosecution, when Ugbo asked for time to finish the phone he was fixing, the defendant refused and insisted that he accompany him to their office, a three-storey building belonging to a security outfit in the market.
The prosecution said the defendant also ordered that the customer whose phone Ugbo was repairing, Mr Joshua Igwe, follow them to the office.
# Justice Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC) Nnewi has begun a series of community consultations across the four regions of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi as part of efforts to develop a participatory five-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening its humanitarian and development interventions.
The consultations, organised under the “Charting A Pathway for a Sustainable Society (CAPs) is supported by the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (CCFN).
They are designed to give grassroots stakeholders the opportunity to assess the organisation’s past activities, identify institutional gaps and contribute ideas that will shape its development priorities over the next five years.
One of the regional consultations took place at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Amichi, bringing together parish-based JDPC volunteers, community leaders, youth and women representatives, Ward Development Committee members and regional coordinators.
In his opening remarks, JDPC Nnewi Director, Rev. Fr. Ben Okolo, described the meeting as a significant step towards building stronger community structures and deepening development partnerships within the diocese.
He said the CAPs project offered stakeholders an opportunity to collectively reflect on existing challenges and develop stronger institutional capacities to address them.
