* Wife of the governor of Anambra State, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo has debunked stories being peddled by opposition politicians in the state about the arrogance of her husband, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
Opposition parties have been spreading rumours, saying that the governor arrogates infallibility to himself, urging Anambra people not to vote for someone who feels like he knows everything.
Speaking with journalists at the Anambra Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia during a recent meeting, Mrs Soludo said on the contrary, her husband is a jovial person who enjoys good jokes and a perfect family man.
* Bishop Owen Nwokolo of the Anglican Diocese on the Niger, Anambra State, has given unquantifiable kudos to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for, in his words, “fearlessly and fiercely” banishing agents of darkness in the state.
According to the bishop, posterity will ever remember the governor for his determination to wipe evil in the state.
Nwokolo who was chatting with journalists in Onitsha recently on security matters in the state unequivocally lauded the governor for the government’s present policy on crime in Anambra State.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor has called for intervention strategies to support the campaign against ‘ego mbute’ (wealth without work), drug abuse, and cultism, among others.
Mefor who led a team of renowned psychologists, while speaking during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director, Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO), Sir Chuka Nnabuife, noted that the forum was an avenue to interact physically on how to bring back lost Igbo values, which he identified as Uchu (hard work), Uche (wisdom), and Egwu Chukwu (fear of God), to recover the soul of Anambra.
Dr. Mefor accompanied by Prof. Anthony Okoye, Dr. Ada Dike, Dr. Ijeoma Orji,
charged them to help research, design, and provide information, stating that Governor Chukwuma Soludo
summarily believes that most of us, particularly the youths, have lost their ways and those Igbo values.
In his remarks, the ANCISRO MD, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, urged the forum to individually and collectively help his agency work out ways that will save the society from danger.
* A non-profit organization, the BudgIT Foundation, has charged the people of Okpuno community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State to be alive to the responsibility of holding their elected representatives accountable for the execution of federal projects in their area.
The Anambra State Officer for BudgIT Foundation, Ezeugwu Kenneth, gave the charge during a community engagement held as part of the strengthening Institutional Partnership for Anti-corruption campaign and service delivery campaign, supported by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption, (RoLAC) programme.
Kenneth further explained that through Town Hall meetings, community could also do a needs assesment which when Identified, BudgIT will guide on how to write their representatives and follow up on such identified needs. “Apart from identifying the needs of the community, community members can also volunteer as community Champions, (dedicated community members), who will work closely with us.
* The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Lands, Survey and Town Planning has commended Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) for its contributions to urban development in the state.
The Committee Chairman, Hon. Jude Akpua while speaking during the oversight visit to ACTDA office on Thursday, praised the agency progress, particularly under the watch of the Managing Director Mr. Ossy Onuko.
Hon. Akpua noted that ACTDA’s work aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a livable and prosperous homeland.
Responding, Mr. Onuko emphasized the critical role of legislative oversight in governance. He reaffirmed ACTDA’s dedication to transparency and collaboration with the state house of assembly to drive sustainable urban development in the capital territory.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor has decried the security challenges at Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.
Dr. Mefor while speaking when he received the new Civil Defence Officer in charge of the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka, DSC Chioma Nnaewuru, who paid him a courtesy visit at his office, charged her to be ambitious, analytical, and clear about what is needed to ensure full security in the state secretariat to be sent to the governor.
The Commissioner said the security situation in the secretariat is seriously affecting productivity, and the governor is not happy about it, even as he expressed hope that things will improve with the change in guards.
* Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has described Anambra’s organization and implementation of the just-concluded Renewed Hope Agricultural Support Program in the state as the most perfect example of the scheme’s foundational objectives.
Senator Tinubu made the commendation during the First Quarter High Level Meeting with wives of governors from the thirty-six states of the federation.
While reviewing the program across states that have already organized theirs, the president’s wife pointed out that Anambra State made the most of the program’s objectives by being thorough and very intentional about each step.
While she played the recorded video of the event in Anambra State for the high-level audience, Senator Tinubu explained that the central goal of the program could be largely achieved if every state followed similar step as was adopted by wife of the governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo.
* The Corps Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, Joyce Alexander has listed human, mechanical and environmental factors responsible for road crashes especially in the State.
Comd. Alexander while speaking during the training of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra Chapter at Godwin Ezeimo International Press Centre, Awka, mentioned such human factors as over speeding, defensive driving, tiredness, making or answering phone calls, ouse of alcohol, drinkibg while driving, over confidence which doesn’t consider safety, and unmindful attitude towards use of seat belt.
According to the Corps Commander, human factor accounts for 80 percent of road crashes. She observed that mechanical factor includes distraction, wiper checks, observation of lighting system, disobedience to traffic codes, lack of head lamp checks, non-maintenance of vehicles, ignorance of trekking space, neglect of morning parade for water and oil level checks.
* Hundreds of Nimo indigenes made up of the youths, women groups, and the elderly stormed the Anambra State Government House to demand for the removal of their Owelle, HRH Igwe Maxi Oliobi over illegal land grabbing, intimidation and incessant arrest of youths of the community.
Addressing representatives of the government at the State House, Nimo Youth Leader Hon Chidike Okwaji explained that the people of Nimo have come with tears and grievances about the high handedness, intimidation, brutalization and illegal sales of community land by the Owelle of Nimo.
The Youth Leader noted that in several occasions the king has brought in soldiers especially the day the Town Union had their election, they went in and broke the PG office and carted away some undisclosed amount of money.
Responding, the member representing Njikoka two constituency, Hon Jude Akpua while commending Nimo indigenes in the manner in which they arranged themselves in an orderly manner, urged them to petition the whole information with evidences to the speaker who will address the matter as appropriate.
* The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has announced the reopening of the drug market, (Ogbo-Ogwu), Onitsha.
The market had been closed for weeks
due to NAFDAC’s discovery of substandard drugs on display at some of the shops in the market.
The re-opening came after a meeting by the Anambra state government representatives led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, the NAFDAC officials, and the Ogbo-Ogwu Executive, held at the market.
