* The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal High Court in Abuja accused former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Maduabuchi Obiano of evading services of court process in the N4B alleged fraud charges against him. Lead counsel to the anti-graft agency and Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, Sylvanus Tahir made the accusation at the resumption of trial of the former governor in the corruption charges against him. Tahir informed Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo that in compliance with the order of the Court made on Monday, he filed a counter affidavit to oppose the bid by Obiano to challenge the territorial jurisdiction of the Court to prosecute him.

* The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Gov Soludo on Political Matters, Hon Engr Ezekiel Nwokoye has said that the Anambra State governor, Professor  Charles Soludo is not a regular politician but a generational gift to Ndi-Anambra.

Hon Nwokoye made this declaration during an interactive session with journalists in Awka. He particularly applauded Soludo for opening up many rural communities in the state through road construction. Nwokoye said that the governor has brought his Professorship in Economics to physical manifestation in governance as demonstrated through the construction and completion Urum-Amansea-Ufuma road.

* The Anambra State Chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have lauded the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration in the State for what they described as infrastructural facelift and transformation being witnessed in Awka the capital city of the State and other parts of the State at large. The leadership and representatives of the Unions gave the commendation during a visit to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Hon. Ossy Onuko.

* Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has extolled the contributions of many notable women in Nigeria to the growth and development of the country, describing them as virtuous women. In his goodwill message to women in the state on behalf of the State Legislature, 

as the world marks the ‘International Women’s Day’, Udeze called on various legislative Institutions in the country to accord women their rightfully positions with maximum security through legislation. The Speaker who described women as veritable instruments for national development and societal reformation, enjoined them to uphold those attributes that portray them as virtuous women and shun acts capable of debasing their status.

* The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has disassemble a criminal hideout and illicit drug hub along Enugu-Onitsha old road in Agwu-Awka (ICC axis). ACTDA took a decisive and swift action to address the rapid expansion of the said criminal hideout and curb the illicit activities that had taken root in the area. Prompted by the increase of drug peddlers and criminals, the area known as the “shanty town” witnessed the intervention of ACTDA, despite previous warnings, the illegal occupants persisted, compelling the necessity for a comprehensive response.

* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has congratulated all women in the state and all over Nigeria on celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day today, with the theme “Inspire Inclusion”. Expressing his sense of immense pride in the phenomenal women of Anambra State and, indeed, all of Nigeria, the governor commended their outstanding impacts as builders of society who deserve to be celebrated. The Governor therefore calls on ndi Anambra to continue inspiring and supporting inclusion of women, so that we can create a state where every woman can dream big, achieve her goals, and contribute to the greatness of our State.

* The Anambra State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) Olatunde Maku has charged officers and men to brace up, be more proactive and focused in performing their constitutional given responsibilities. Maku stated this on Friday at a meeting he held with Command’s management team, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, tactical Commanders, heads of formation, Departmental and Sectional heads. In his address, the State NSCDC helmsman reiterated the directives of the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr.  Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to Corps personnel at the just concluded strategic meeting to work in tandem with the NSCDC  establishment Act,  Standard Operating Procedure and the Code of Conduct guiding effective discharge of duties. 

* Chairman of Anambra Sports Development Commission, Hon. Patrick-Estate Onyedum has called on sports officers at the Local Government Area (LGA) level to mobilise massively ahead of the 2024 School Sports Festival schedule to take off on April 17. Onyedum gave the charge at the inauguration of Local Organising Committees for LGAs comprising representatives of Area Education Officers, Post Primary Service Commission, Universal Basic Education Board and Sports Commission Officers. He said about 600 schools took part last year but he hoped that not less than 1,500 schools would register and participate this year.
