# Over 200 workers of the Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) have threatened to stage a protest on March 17, 2026, to express their displeasure over what they described as their unjust dismissal by the state government.
The aggrieved workers said the protest is scheduled to take place at the popular Aroma Junction near Ekwueme Square in Awka, the venue where Governor Chukwuma Soludo is billed to be sworn in for a second term in office.
According to them, the retrenchment order issued against them for failing a strategic tax collection examination organised by the state government in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers was not in line with the new tax law.
They argued that the law provides for revenue agencies across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT to operate autonomously, including the training and retraining of their staff without external interference.
# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has called on governments, individuals, groups and communities to join hands in a determined effort to empower women, defend their rights and protect their dignity in recognition of their contributions towards building a progressive society devoid of gender inequality and insensitivity.
Felicitating Nigerian Women as they mark this year’s International Women’s Day, Rt. Hon. Udeze paid glowing tribute to those outstanding women who have distinguished themselves in their various areas of service to the Nation, noting that women are predominant in the health sector, and are also the majority in the workforce, a feat he described as encouraging.

Udeze commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the wife, Mrs Nonye for their efforts towards the upliftment of the living condition of Anambra women and girls through various empowerments and provision of quality life for them such as free antenatal and free child delivery, advocacy and protection of women’s rights.
Rt. Hon. Udeze while extolling the critical roles women shoulder in their various families as well as the growth of the Nation, enjoined affluent citizens to assist indigent women in their midst to improve their living standard.

Ozoemena described CBM as a decent and non-partisan movement aimed at mobilizing support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid.

# The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has flagged off its membership registration and revalidation exercise in Awka, Anambra State.
The event attracted dignitaries including former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi; Senator Tony Nwoye, Senator Victor Umeh; ADC chieftain, Mr. John Chuma Nwosu, former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Chief Oseloka Obaze alongside other stakeholders and party faithfuls.

The Governor’s wife Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo announced that the month of March is dedicated to women and as such, Anambra State chose to host the women’s summit on the 6th of March 2026 to celebrate Anambra Women.
In a speech at the occasion celebrated at the APGA Regional Secretariat Complex Awka, the governor’s wife reiterated that women should be celebrated in all ramifications as home builders.

# As the 2027 general elections draw near, three major contenders are jostling for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ticket to contest for the Anambra North Senatorial seat.
Before now, the battle was between Odili and Obiogbolu. However, the entrance of Oduah into the race has somewhat changed the equation.

# Stakeholders in governance and civil society have renewed calls for the urgent passage of the Special Seats Bill currently before the National Assembly, warning that Nigeria cannot achieve inclusive governance while women remain grossly underrepresented in political offices.
The call was made during a one-day leadership development workshop for aspiring women and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Anambra State organized by the Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC) under its Inclusive Mobilization for Participation, Advocacy and Civic Transformation (Project IMPACT).
The initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room and supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), aims to strengthen political participation among women, youth and persons with disabilities across Anambra and Imo states.
