* The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Comrade ThankGod Anagor has reiterated the commitment of his administration to making free basic medical services available to the people of the area. Comrade Anago disclosed this during the inauguration of Health Initiative for rural dwellers across the ten communities in Awka North which was organized in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps, in Anambra State. According to Comrade Anagor, his administration will continue to give topmost priority to the healthcare needs of the people of Awka North, especially the rural dwellers who may not be able to afford basic medical services.

* Director of Sports Technical in the Anambra Sports Development Commission, Mr. Emeka Obidimma has described the ongoing school sports festival as impressive and promising.

Obidimma said this on Wednesday in Awka at the conclusion of the intercommunity stage of the festival.

According to Obidimma, the festival had once again brought alive the spirit of grassroots sports as about 756 primary and secondary schools across the 179 communities took part in the first stage of the competition.

* Anambra State Police Command Operatives have repelled and dispersed armed criminal elements, reported to have shot sporadically at Uli Campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. The Operatives are on the trail of the hoodlums. According to a release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, more operatives, operational, and intelligence resources of the command have been further deployed to the area to reinforce the security of the university and its environs. Credible information from eyewitnesses reveals that the gunmen started shooting indiscriminately and unprovoked, thereby causing fear among law-abiding citizens of the community. However, no casualties were recorded, and order has been fully restored in the area.

* Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare has rescued one Chidiebere Otenyi, another victim of domestic abuse in Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area.

This they did when a whistle blower who witnessed the ugly incident brought it to the attention of the Commissioner Mrs Ify Obinabo. Reacting in her office in Awka after the team sent from the ministry had rescued the girl, Obinabo, who was furious over the dastardly act vowed to bring the perpetrator Mrs Martha Umenweke to book. The victim, a nineteen-year-old Chidiebere Otenyi from Nkanu, Enugu State said that her guardian Mrs Martha Umenweke accused her of stealing her twenty-five thousand naira which she said she did not which prompted her to beat her mercilessly.

* Beneficiaries of the “One Youth Two Skills initiative” have organized and inaugurated the Solution Youth-Preneur Support Group, (SYPSG). Executive members of the group who mainly comprised master trainers of the “One Youth Two Skills” Initiative were inaugurated at the Government House, Awka, during a workshop titled, “Creating Better Business Environment Through Effective Participation in Politics”. In his opening remarks, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba stressed that the “One Youth Two Skills initiative” is used as a veritable platform to serve as evidential testament to what the Governor has done, with the aim of empowering more Anambra youths in a sustainable manner.

* The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Anambra State Branch has elected new executive to pilot affairs of the institute. Mr. Raji Adewale emerged as the new Branch Chairman and Mr Keneth Ndulue, vice Chairman in a keenly contested election held in Awka.

* Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has approved the appointments of the underlisted persons as members of the Governing Council of Nwafor Orizu College of Education,  Nsugbe. Mrs Nneka ONYALI-IKPE.  (Chairman), Chief Fidelis NWEKE – member, Prof. (Rev Sis) Uju Marie-Esther DIBUA – member,  Ven (Dr) Rex C. KANU –    member,  Prof. Celestine Uzoma AGUORU – member

* The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim alongside Anambra State Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu and other government officials received House of Representatives Committee on Army in Awka. While welcoming them on behalf of Governor Charles Soludo, Dr. Ibezim said, when Governor Soludo took the mantle of leadership, they met a terrible situation in the state but today Anambra has been liberated to a large extent from the hands of these people. He commended the military, police force and other security agencies for their sacrifices toward the progress of the state, stating that, Anambra State recognized that they are bread winners of their families.
