# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has commissioned a 1.7km road built and paved single-handedly by Chief. Emma Nwakamma in Achalla Community, Awka North Local Government Area.

In his speech, Prof. Soludo noted that the new road is a shining example of Private-Public-Community Partnership, PPCP, model.
Soludo reminded everyone that about 98% of Anambra’s wealth is in private hands and that government alone cannot build the homeland Anambra want.
Standing before a cheering crowd of ndi Achalla, the Governor assured the cheering crowd that his administration will step into the leadership crisis currently rocking the community.
# The Honorable Member Representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Hon. Peter Aniekwe, has extended warm felicitations to the revered Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, on the joyous occasion of his 85th birthday.
Hon. Aniekwe described the monarch as a symbol of wisdom, unity, and cultural pride, whose reign has continued to strengthen the values and traditions of the Onitsha Kingdom and the entire Igbo nation. # The President General of Nawfia Community, Chief Daniel Okoye, has passionately appealed to the Chairman of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, to urgently rebuild and modernize the popular Afor Nawfia Market to meet international and interstate standards capable of attracting businessmen and investors from different parts of the country.
Okoye explained that the Nawfia community already has plans to organize the market into different sections after reconstruction to make trading easier and more attractive to investors.
The President General stressed that rebuilding the market would not only improve the economy of Nawfia but also create employment opportunities for youths and women in the area.
The Nawfia Market Chairman, Mr Ugochukwu Udeh described the project as a major step toward economic growth in the community, emphasizing that poor infrastructure has limited business activities in the area. “If the government rebuilds this market, many traders from neighboring communities will come here. It will help our businesses grow and improve the lives of families,” he noted.
# 52-year-old driver, Mr. Chukwudi Nwayaka has been remanded for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl when he was drunk.
Anambra State Police Command arraigned Mr. Nwayaka on one-count charge of defilement brought against him.
The prosecutor, Inspector Chinyere Okechukwu while speaking before the state’s Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court in Awka, told the court that the defendant, who is a native of Umuawulu community, in Awka South, committed the offences on April 10 in his community.
# In readiness to ensure professionalism of personnel while carrying out it’s duties and responsibilities, the Agunaechemba State Security Personnels have been warned against wearing masks henceforth while on duty or in whatever guise, except with the clearance of state authority for covert or special missions with reasons.
Speaking with Agunaechemba commanders from the 179 communities, 21 LGA’s and State Unit Commanders in Anambra State, including other state officials and leaders at a routine meeting in Awka, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi explained that the directive against the use of masks is with immediate effect and necessary to avoid such being hijacked for criminal purposes while ensuring protection and confidence on the security outfit from members of the public, as offenders will immediately be arrested and disciplined.
Mr. Emeakayi went further and warned against setting up check points on roads by Agunaechemba security without being strictly for security purposes, noting that check points must be after criminals and not against motorists and road users, and hence should not be on a particular road or route at all times.
He also emphasized that drug dealers must be decisively delt with in all nooks and crannies of Anambra State, challenging Commanders on intelligence led approach to deal with the issue while harping on the need for synergy and effective communication on operational issues and challenges amongst different units of the organisation.
# The Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) has announced the nomination of Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie into its prestigious Honorary Fellowship.
Chairman, Education Committee of the Nigerian Optometric Association, Dr. Augustine Ugochukwu Akujobi made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor in his office on Wednesday, 13th May 2026.
Presenting the Honorary Fellowship Nomination Letter and invitation to their forthcoming Annual Scientific Conference and Vision Expo in collaboration with the African Council of Optometry (AFCO), Dr Akujiobi disclosed that the Vice Chancellor will be honoured in recognition of his distinguished contributions to academic and institutional development.
Akujiobi praised the Vice Chancellor for his administrative reforms and innovations at Nnamdi Azikiwe University within the few months of his assumption of office.
While receiving the delegation, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the association for the honour and the invitation, while reaffirming the university’s commitment to supporting professional bodies and advancing healthcare-related collaborations.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC says it is making efforts towards ensuring that vehicle owners obtain driver’s license with ease.
The Sector Commander , Anambra State, Mrs Bridget Asekhauno stated this in Awka while speaking with newsmen at the state headquarters.
According to her, there are five capturing centres across the state while only one is located within the state capital , thereby making people that had paid for licence to wait for a long period before being captured.
Mrs Asekhauno said an office space had been secured at the federal secretariat Awka by the corps, and appealed to the state government to assist by helping in providing equipment needed for the center to ensure that people are captured and issued with driver’s license easily.
# The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr. Ezeka Augustine Uwaeme, has convened a tactical meeting with all ASHIA enrollment officers across various registration centers in the state.
The meeting was held at the ASHIA office in Awka as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen service delivery and expand enrollment coverage.
Addressing the officers, Dr. Ezeka expressed deep appreciation for their dedication, resilience, and consistent efforts in registering beneficiaries into the health insurance scheme. He noted that their role remains critical to the Agency’s mission of ensuring that Ndi Anambra have access to affordable and quality healthcare services.
He charged the enrollment officers to remain steadfast, disciplined, and fully committed to their duties, emphasizing the importance of professionalism, patience, and a client-centered approach in all interactions with enrollees. According to him, every registration point must reflect the Agency’s core values of efficiency, transparency, and compassion.
