*A veteran wrestler, Uchenna Animoke, has promised to restore the glory of the sport when he assumes office as chairman of Anambra Wrestling Association. Animoke popularly known as ‘Mighty Uche Fancy’ in his active days, disclosed this to newsmen to newsmen in Awka. Animoke said he would lead a crusade for the reinvention of wrestling and make it the top medal winners for Anambra. According to him, Anambra is rich with human resources that can make us the number one wrestling state in Nigeria.
* The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has lectures Officers of the heads of units in the administrative department and moves to enhance the proficiency of the units. During the lecture, the CP noted that the department is tasked with managing strategic planning, welfare, and human resources as well as assessing performance in the Force. CP Itam stated that the Nigeria Police Force, as a disciplined, transparent, responsible, responsive, and accountable institution will never condone any form of abuse of office, corruption, and sundry unprofessional conduct especially as it concerns handling of Correspondence/Mail.
* Women Situation Room Nigeria (WSRN) Anambra State Chapter has called on the media to reduce stereotype and enhance visibility for women In politics. Speaking during the group’s advocacy visit to Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center, NUJ Secretariat complex Awka, WSRN cordinator Miss Hope Nkiruka Okoye said the media which is often seen as the societal watchdog and the fourth estate of the realm play an important role in promoting gender equality, empowering women’s voices, and creating more inclusiveness. Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD in his remark commended WSRN for championing the cause for the rights of women in the society. Dr. Odogwu frowned at the attitude of some female politicians, CEO’s and stakeholders who shy away from speaking to the media, urging women to come out from their shell and speak out more.
* The United Nations Development Programme, UNDP has expressed their readiness to partner Anambra state government to develop and implement sustainable youth development programmes for the state. The Coordinator of UNDP, Mrs Joyce Oburu, during a visit to the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Agha Mba, revealed that they are ready to support the state government to maximize the full potential of the “1 Youth 2 Skills” empowerment programme. She noted that the programme is a complete package that has the capacity to reposition the socio-economic status of the state for the better and commended Governor Soludo for driving the project.
* Anambra State government through the Ministry of Health has announced a partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) to begin maiden statewide HPV vaccination. Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo while speaking in Awka, encouraged eligible women within the accredited age bracket to turn up for vaccination as the state gets ready to launch free vaccination for the human papillomavirus vaccine later this month. Mrs Soludo said that the free vaccination, which is accessible to girls between the age of nine and 14, is one important step to fighting cervical cancer threats from an early stage.
* Widows in their numbers have protested against the release of four murder suspects by the chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, Pascal Aniegbunam. The widows and their relatives who took to the streets protesting against the release, however called on the state governor, Charles Soludo to intervene. Ogwuaniocha community, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State have been terrorized by a suspected gang ‘Pillar Youths’ that allegedly resulted to the killings of persons.
* Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Health, has sensitised community leaders, security agencies, and civil society organisations (CSOs) on the need to take action to tackle the menace in the state. The State Coordinator, Adolescent Health and Gender Equity (State Ministry of Health), Mrs. Ekeh Evelyn Ngozi, disclosed this during a one-day training workshop on creating sexual safety policies for concerned residents, both indigenes and non-indigenes, in the state.
* The one hundred and fifty days of Hon. ThankGod Chibuike Anago as the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra, has been adjudged by many stakeholders as a success story of uncommon and purposeful commitment towards transforming the council area in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a livable and prosperous state in Nigeria. The achievements were contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen by his media aide, Comrade Chibuzor Onukwube.
* The gallant officers of the Anambra State Police Command, recently foiled the criminal plots of some armed men within the precinct of the Uli Campus of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, in Ihiala Local Government Area of the State. The Police Public Relations Officer of the State, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a statement in which he also hinted that the officers have reinforced more airtight security in the state. According to Ikenga, the armed criminal elements were reported to have shot sporadically in the area, while gallant engaged, repelled and dispersed them. He added that police operatives are currently trailing the hoodlums.
* Afamefuna and Nwachukwu, sons of Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, wife of late Biafra leader, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu have applied to be joined as parties in a 2011 suit filed by Ogbonna Ojukwu and others against the Ojukwu Transport Limited, OTL, and others in which judgment had been delivered in 2018. Ojukwu Transport Limited was founded by Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, father of the late Igbo leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. Justice Adedayo Oyebanji had while delivering judgment in the suit marked LD/794/2011, granted possession of Ojukwu Transport Ltd properties in Lagos to Ojukwu Transport Ltd including No 29 Oyikan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi Lagos.
