* Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo has encouraged everyone living in the state who owns or knows any child with cleft deformity to bring them forward for immediate treatment. The governor’s wife who made the call in Awka, said that for the fact that cleft deformities can be treated, no child in Anambra State should be left to suffer from them or from the stigma that comes with such problems. Mrs. Soludo explained that the partnership with Smile Train to treat anyone with cleft deformity in Anambra State for free, is in the best interest of those with cleft problems, with the target to bring the number of such deformities in the state to zero.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has asked All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) stakeholders to nominate candidates to fill the position of Transition Committees and Education Secretaries in all the local councils. The nominess are to be three in each case and must include at least a woman in the case of Transition Committee chairmen and two women in the case of Education Secretaries.
* Nibo Town Union has set fixed prices for farm labourers, mason and carpentry work. The prices were declared officially at a town hall meeting held at the community ‘s Civic Centre at Eke Nibo, Awka South local government area. Those in attendance at the meeting were men, women and youths of the community as well as non indigenous farmers, masons and labourers.
According to Nibo Town Union clearing of a farm land is now N3,500 per day with one course meal, without a meal is N4,500 while cultivating or making of mounds or ridges is now N5,500 per day with one course meal and N7000 per day without a meal.
* The Chairman of Anambra State Football Association Chikelue ‘General’ Iloenyosi and other members of the Nigerian Professional Union has paid a ‘get well quick’ visit to former Super Eagles winger, Tijani Babangida, at his Abuja residence. The delegation, led by Abdul Sule, also comprises Edema Fuludu, Proprietor of Cross Culture Mr Sofien Zarraa from Tunisia and Special Assistant to Chikelue, Ifeanyi Ojukwu.
Babangida recently was involved in an auto crash that claimed the life of his younger brother, Ibrahim Babangida.
During the visit, the delegation equally consoled TJ, as he’s fondly called, over his brother’s death and also prayed for his (TJ’s) quick recovery.
* Anambra State Government has introduced free hypertension checks across Primary Healthcare Centres and General Hospitals in the State. This is in commemoration of this year’s World Hypertension Day. State Commissioner For Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, who disclosed this during a press briefing held in Awka, said that the commemoration provided them another opportunity to raise awareness about hypertension which is one of the deadliest non-communicable diseases in the society. Dr. Obidike reaffirmed the commitment of state government towards partnering with the partners and other stakeholders in eradicating hypertension threats.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Goverment Area, Comrade ThankGod Anago says he will continue to ensure that every palliative meant for Ndi Awka North are evenly distributed at all times. He made this known when he supervised the distribution of hundreds of bags of Corn and Garri palliatives to the ten communities in Awka North L.G.A. The food palliatives which came from the National Strategic Food Reserve through National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) are meant to cushion the harsh effects of the present economic and food crisis on the poorest of the poor and the most vulnerable in the council area, caused by the fuel subsidy removal.
* The Managing Director of Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS), Mr. Chike Obiakor has described the allegations made by some driver’s of the company as unfounded and baseless.
Mr. Obiakor while reacting to recent protest by some driver’s over embezzlement said that what brought their agitation was that the company introduced tracking device in order to monitor all their vehicles, know how many that loaded in their depots and where they are at every moment in time, which some drivers are kicking against. The TRACAS Managing Director explained that they brought the idea of tracking device because of the numerous ways some of their drivers were using to shortchange the Anambra State government, adding that some of them go to people’s houses, carry passagers and move, without giving the company its 10% or passengers manifest.
* The APGA Apostles Forum (AAF), has presented its Work Plan to the Anambra State Government. The event took place at Best Western Hotel, Awka, Anambra State, with the Chief of Staff of the Anambra State Government, Hon Chief Ernest Ezeajughi, present to receive the document. The National Convener, AAF, Chief Nchekwube Anthony Dunga, who led the group, said AAF was a result-oriented All Progressives Grand Alliance Support Group, repositioned to meet the youth-led societal demand and new wave of political challenges in Nigeria, which aimed to propagate the core values of APGA and promote her candidates across Nigeria for electoral victories and make the party the first choice in the nation’s politics.
* Anambra State government has commence the renovation of Igboukwu Museum in Aguata Local Government Area. The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Hon. Don Onyenji, Speaking on the state of the Igboukwu Museum, said that its renovation is a welcome development that will attract both local and international tourists, researchers and scholars to the state. Hon. Onyenji noted that Anambra has a rich cultural heritage, and that the Igboukwu Museum is a repository of stories, as well as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding cultural treasures for the future generations.
* The traditional ruler of Eziowelle community Idemili-North Local Government Area of Anambra State His Royal Highness Igwe Michael Ugorji Nwafor Okonkwo Etusi (Owelle Eziowelle) has declared that nobody can cage Eziowelle with ill-gotten wealth. Etusi who addressed journalists in his palace at Umunnama village Eziowelle, maintained that nobody can truncate the peace and tranquility Eziowelle enjoys because no individual is bigger or mightier than the community. Igwe Okonkwo Etusi said people amassed wealth and bring such wealth home for the development of the grassroots but in the case of Eziowelle, some chronic characters are using their ill-gotten wealth to terrorise the community because of their connection with the police, military and other security agencies in the country.
