* Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has invited the Proprietor of Landmark School Mgbakwu in Awka North Local Government Area of the state over alleged brutalization of pupil in the school. The Public Relations Officer, Nnaemeka Egwuonwu who disclosed this in a statement said the meeting scheduled on Tuesday 21st May 2024 is for the Proprietor to explain what led to brutalization of pupil in the school.
* The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) on Monday May 20, 2024 commenced demolition of shanties and illegal structures, defacing the state capital in efforts to enhance the aesthetic and environmental standards of the Anambra State Capital Awka and its environs. The demolition was carried at Ifite Awka, targeting the removal of illegal shanties and structures constructed under high tension, power lines and in close proximity to residential buildings to provide a safer environment for its residents. Addressing the residents, the Head of ACTDA Development Control Unit, Mr. Charles Ekwunife urged the affected individuals to construct standard buildings in safer locations, ensuring compliance with urban development regulations and contributing to a safer, more organized Awka.
* Anambra State Police Command operatives have begun an investigation into the murder of Bar. Peter Awah, Secretary of Okija Development Union.
Preliminary Information reveals that the assailants operating in motorbikes, shot the deceased as he was about to alight his vehicle for safety when he was approached by the murderers. Some eyewitnesses have provided details that are already aiding the investigation.
Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, while commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, the Nigeria Bar Association, the people of Okija as well as the State, directs the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide section of the Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for a comprehensive probe into the incident.
* The National convener of Soludo Support Group (SSG), Chief Chinedu Nwoye has successfully inaugurated SSG in Ogbaru Main Market, near Onitsha, Anambra State. The event took place at the Market praying arena with flagging off titled: “You Need To Know”. It began with Holy Eucharistic presided by the Parish vicar of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church New Haven, Rev. Fr. Eusebius Okpala. Delivering his homily titled ” God’s Time Is The Best”, Fr. Okpala admonished the people of God to wait upon the God’s time. He emphasized that Satan doesn’t attract blessing, reiterating that people of God should wait for the appointed God’s time, pointing out that there is hour of suffering and hour of glorification.
* Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam on Monday May 20th 2024, lectures Police personnel attached to the Criminal Investigation Department, (CID) Awka, provides a guide, reviews the modus operandi on criminal investigation.
The CP while addressing the personnel emphasizes on investigative competency and skills in discharging their duties. He maintained that the department is the apex body of investigation in the State and when a crime is committed, the formation is tasked to identify the offenders and prosecute the perpetrators.
* Christians have been charged to seek eternal life by being watchful and prayerful. The Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim PhD, gave the charge at Church of the Pentecost, Awka, Awka South Local Government Area, during the Eucharistic Thanksgiving Service. Most Rev. Ibezim, who warned Christians against careless lifestyles in this time, said it is perilous and listed emergence of false prophets, ingratitude among men, selfishness, normalization of sin, among others as evidence that show that this is the last days and perilous times the scripture talked about, and emphasized the need for Christians to be prayerful at all times.
* President General of Nanka community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Rev. Canon Ifeanyichukwu Ezeike has condemned alleged assault on staff of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) by one of the indigenes, identified as Izuchukwu Ofojama. Rev. Ezeike in company of Onyekwere Ofojama (brother to Izuchukwu Ofojama) were at the Ekwulobia District office of EEDC to appease the company on the ugly action by Izuchukwu who has been at large after the incident. Describing the incident as unfortunate and unwarranted, Ezeike expressed the community’s intention to settle the matter amicably, and its commitment to repair the damages on the vehicle.
* Indegenes of Onitsha North and South local government areas have been clamouring that the next Council Chairmen must be true sons and daughters of Onitsha, contending that Onitsha people have not been given the opportunity to serve as Chairmen. The duo of party members are said to be threatening not to support the second term ambition of Soludo if their demands are not met by the governor . In the major cabinet reshuffle, four Commissioners may be swapping their positions while two may be dropped a development that may have given impetus to the directive by Soludo that all Executive Council and Transition Committee Chairmen should present their respective achievements in office .
* As the Vice-Chancellor , Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, gradually winds up his tenure as the 6th substantive Vice-Chancellor, UNIZIK, the Faculty of Social Sciences, led by its Dean Prof Frank-Collins Okafor organised a valedictory session in his honour. The valedictory Board meeting held at the new Faculty Conference Hall attracted eminent professors, past Deans of the Faculty, Lecturers and non-teaching staff of the Faculty. Addressing the Faculty members, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Esimone enumerated the projects he attracted and accomplished during his tenure as well as those that have just been sealed to commence as soon as possible, including two students hostels to be built by Dangote Group within six months. He took time to explain the challenge his administration is facing with her unpaid staff due to IPPIS non capturing, and assured them to be patient and prayerful as the matter is receiving positive attention.
* Police operatives has intercepted two young men in a tricycle along Amawbia, Nibo road and recovered one locally made pistol and a tricycle. According to a release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, the armed men both 25 years of age are Chigozie Echiebu of Urum Village, Awka LGA, and Edwine Emmanuel of Nkerefi Village in Nkanu East of Enugu State. The suspects have provided Police with information on their mode of Operations and names of other gang members which is already aiding the ongoing investigation. To this end, the CP, directs that the investigation be widened and deepened to bring to book all those connected, and the case should be charged to court on the conclusion of the investigation.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state, for Snubbing calls for local government elections and singlehandedly appoint another set of Transition Committee members. The Senate on last Thursday, May 16, 2024, accused state governors of misappropriating funds allocated to local government councils in Nigeria, saying that arm of government was dead in the country, as a result of the overwhelming powers of the state governors over the LGAs. Ogene described the governor’s act as ridiculous, undemocratic, abuse of power and unfair to the development dreams of the people.
