* The Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has directed all schools, whose students registered for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination in Anambra State to contact the Examination Development Center, and collect copies of past question papers with which to adequately prepare their students for the examination. Issuing the directive, Chuma-Udeh stated that the production of the past question papers to be given to the students free of charge was part of Governor Soludo’s efforts through the Ministry of Education to stamp out examination malpractice in the state.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike has re-assured Ndi Anambra of quality and affordable healthcare services under Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The Commissioner gave the assurance at Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area recently when he declared open the 2023 Idemili South Local Government Area Ward-Based Medical Outreach.
* The Anambra State Chapter of Labour Party has disowned Factional National Chairman, Lamidi Apapa, saying its allegiance remains with the Barr Julius Abure-led National Executive of the party. The Chairman of the party in the state, Hon Ugochukwu Emeh, stated this at a press conference in Awka, the state capital recently .
* President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned Federal Secretariat Complex Awka, Anambra State on Tuesday 23rd May 2023. ANN reports that the secretariat was named after the first Nigerian female Engineer and Head of Service, Engineer Ebele Ofunneamaka Okeke.
* Sequel to misgivings in some quarters over current developments in the town, the Nimo Town Development Union, NTDU, is to hold a town hall meeting on Saturday, May 27, in order to not only set the records straight, but to enlighten all Nimo citizens on the developments in the part of Owa Land, now called Obodo Oma Estate. Making this known in an interview recently, the President General of NTDU, Chief Ekenenna Okafor-Omabu, accompanied by the Secretary General of NTDU, Ogbuefi Patrick Egbakpalu, said the meeting, which would take place at Egwegwe Square by 10am of the said day, would be open to every Nimo indigene.
* The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Anambra State Branch, has called on Ndi Anambra, stakeholders and pharmaceutical practitioners to take a critical look at the dispensation of drugs and their usage for a healthier life. This was disclosed at the 32nd Annual State Conference of ACPN which was held last weekend in Awka, Anambra State, with the theme: “From Crisis to Preparedness: Future of Community Pharmacy Practice in Anambra State”.
* Onitsha, Anambra State -based educationist and school proprietor, Nnabuenyi Jude Oniah has appealed to the incoming administration in the country to do everything humanly possible to end herdsmen and farmers clash, kidnapping, killings by unknown gunmen, and all other forms of insecurity In the Country. Oniah, proprietor, Akunne Oniah Group of Schools, Onitsha, made the appeal while answering questions from newsmen in Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha recently.
* Arch. Chijioke Okoye, the newly elected chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ihiala local government area of Anambra state, has stated that contrary to false reports and misleading information about insecurity in Ihiala, Ihiala is very peaceful with a very tranquil atmosphere for the people.
Okoye who was a consensus option at the Congress, noted that Ihiala is known for her hospitality and security for her people and visitors alike. That pockets of problems in the area were perpetrated by hoodlums and criminal elements from neighbouring Imo state.
* Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation has called for adequate funding of the sports sector to enable teeming young athletes develop their talents.
ANN reports that the Committee made the call while assessing the level of implementation of the 2023 budget of Anambra State Sports Development Commission at the Legislative Complex in Awka.
* The President-General of Awgbu community, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Emmanuel Akidi, has said the killings in his area recently were not political.
The PG who made the clarification at a press conference said the attack had no political connotation as erroneously reported by a national daily.
* Anambra State government through the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade recently raided major markets in Awka, Ogidi, Obosi, Oba and Owerri road, Onitsha and arrested sixteen persons suspected of touting and collecting illegal tax. Parading the suspects at the command headquarters of the Brigade in Awka, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere who spoke through the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Anthony Agbaefuna reiterated Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s ban on touting in the State.
