*Governor Chukwuma Soludo has assured that his government will do everything possible to rescue a member of the state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Barrister Chukwubuike Azoro who was recently kidnapped in the state. Soludo gave the assurance through his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim when he met with the members of the state chapter of the NBA during their peaceful protest at the state High Court premises in Awka. The Governor vowed to bring killers of  the vice chairman of the NBA Ihiala branch and principal state counsel, Barrister Awa P. Awa, to book.

* Anambra Police Operatives has intercepted a gang member of a notorious gun-running syndicate in Onitsha, recovered seven brand new Jojef magnum pump action guns, in a concealed bag. According to a release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, this breakthrough is following the practical intelligence and tact-led Policing strategy of the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam to frustrate criminal plans, especially on the intel received over time about planned attacks by unlawful group/secessionists to enforce illegal sit-at-home on 30th May 2024. The operatives laid ambush at the identified location at Creek Road, Onitsha and the convener/ gunrunner on sighting the Police abandoned the bag and took to his heels. The CP directs a manhunt on the notorious gun runner and the gang and urges Ndi Anambra to sustain the provision of security information as the Police will continue to act upon it, to be able to frustrate the criminal intentions of the nonstate actors in the State. 

* Petroleum products marketers in Anambra will shutdown operations indefinitely any moment from now, following the expiration of one month ultimatum issued to the State in solidarity with their members owed over N900 million for supplying streetlight generator diesel. The marketers under the aegis of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) had met and decided that they would embark on a total shutdown of operations without further notice if their demands were not met by the Anambra government. Other demands of IPMAN included  withdrawal of all litigations against members based on multiple taxation as well as the demolition of part of the property of Chris Tee Nigeria limited, a marketer at Trans-Nkissi phase 1 along Onitsha-Otuocha road.

* Stakeholders in Anambra State have made passionate appeal for inclusive health care services which take care for the peculiar needs of deaf women and girls in the area. The people made the call in Awka, the state capital, during the launch of a Needs Assessment Report on Inclusive Health Services for Deaf Women and Girls. The occasion, which afforded deaf women the opportunity to share their frustrations with other stakeholders, attracted participants from the Ministries of Health and Education as well as the Disability Rights Commission, the deaf community, the general disability community and the media.

* Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, says journalists are important stakeholders in the propagation of healthy living education and decentralization. Mrs Soludo who stated this at the 2024 Triennial Delegates’ Conference of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), explained that the uniqueness of her non-governmental movement rubs off on the principle of basic awareness awareness which journalists are championing. She said that the female journalists could, because of the distinctive position they occupy in the prestigeous profession, lead the much-needed revolution in health beginning with themselves.

*   The Nigeria Bar Association, Anambra State Chapter has given the State Governnent one month within which period to fish out the killers of the Vice Chairman of NBA  Ihiala Branch, Peter Awa who was killed at Eke Umudioka,  Okija, Ihiala Local Council Area of the State on Sunday, May 19th, 2024.

Speaking shortly after the protest of the eight branches of NBA in the State over the heigtened insecurity in the State in which lawyers have either been kidnapped or killed, the State Chairman of Committee of Lawyers and Secrearies of NBA in Anambra State, Izuchukwu Nsofor said the Association would take the next line of action to checkmate   government’s failure to restore safety and security in the State. Nsofor who is also the Chairman of Ihiala Local Council Branch of NBA. condemned the kidnap and killing of Awa, also a State Counsel in the Minstry of Justice,  demanding government to take measures to  unmask his killers and bring them to justice.

* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe school environment for all schools in Anambra State. Comdt. Maku Olatunde, the Anambra State NSCDC Commandant stated while on a familiarization visit to  the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Awka, to collaborate on disseminating information related to safety in schools. Represented by Deputy Commandant Francis Nnadi,  Comdt. Maku emphasized the need for collective effort to ensure total safety in schools and increase security awareness among children. 

* Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo will officially be crown as the undisputed Governor of the Year in both Infrastructural and rural development by the Champion Group of Newspapers on Saturday 25, 2024 in Lagos. The sterling performances of Governor Soludo in just two years as governor of Anambra State have been phenomenal and amazing. He has revolutionized every sector in Anambra State economy making the State number one among the 17 States in Southern Nigeria on Ease of Doing Business,  Employed 5,000 teachers at a go, more 3,115 are currently on the process of be employed.

* Anambra State House of Assembly, Committee on Health has paid a visit to the Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospital in Njikoka Council Area, where they inspected the ongoing renovation project. 

The committee expressed satisfaction with the quality of infrastructure, medical equipment, and the installation of solar power for a constant electricity supply.

Speaking the House Committee Chairman on Health, Hon. Tony Muobike praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for transforming the hospital, noting that it now offers higher quality and more accessible care. Muobike emphasized that the 8th assembly is commitment in ensuring the vigorous pursuit of all government projects and judicious use of funds appropriated.

* The member representing Idemili North and South and the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on NAFDAC, Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, has called on the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, to adhere to the resolution and lift the ban on sachet alcohol beverages and pet bottles. Okonkwo gave the charge at a press conference in Abuja. Speaking at the press conference, Okonkwo said that despite the House Committee and House of Representatives’ resolutions on the issue, the DG of NAFDAC has yet to cooperate and obey the resolutions. He noted that to strengthen our democracy, obedience to the rule of law is sacrosanct.
