* Anambra governor’s wife and founder of the non-governmental crusade, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, Mrs Nonye Soludo has explained the need for improved personal and environmental hygiene around business vicinities to control the spread of diseases. Mrs Soludo who stated this when she was addressing traders at the popular Coke Market, Onitsha, said that observing the common rules of hygiene around market environments could be vital to saving lives and pushing back transmissible diseases. The Healthy Living Market Outreach, which the governor’s wife NGO is championing, is a veritable avenue to educate traders in local markets on the essence of hygiene and right health.

* Anambra State has received 307, 075 doses of human papilloma virus vaccine.

The State Immunization Officer, Comrade Edith Onwuka disclosed this during a one day expanded stakeholders sensitization on HPV vaccine introduction, organized by the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health in implementing HPV vaccination campaign in Anambra. Giving an overview of the human papilloma virus introduction in Nigeria, Comrade Onwuka disclosed that HPV is a group of viruses that is common among sexually active people and is being spread through the genital organs.

* The Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has held its council meeting for the year. The meeting which held in Awka and had pensioners from different in attendance had as its theme “Evolving Landscape of Pension Policies, Staying Informed and Engaged”. 

Issues affecting pensioners in the state topped discussions.

* The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Council has elected members of her executive who are expected to pilot the affairs of the association for the next three years. Comrade Toochukwu Ifejika from Radio Nigeria was returned elected and  inaugurated as the Chairperson of the council after she ran for the position unopposed. Others who ran unopposed who were returned elected and inaugurated are:  Comrade Chikodi Chukwuleta, a state information officer as Auditor; and Comrade Faith Onyemuche from Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) as Assistant Secretary. Other positions, such as the office of the Vice chairperson, secretary, and treasurer will be scheduled for election at a later date.

* The member representing Anambra East Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon Obi Nweke has extolled Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the approval of recruitment of additional over three thousand teachers in the state. Recall that recently, the Anambra State Executive Council approved the recruitment of three thousand, one hundred and fifteen teachers to address shortages in disadvantaged Local Governments Areas like Anambra West, Anambra East, Awka North, Ayamelum, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Nnewi South and Ogbaru LGA’s.The lawmaker who described the recent approval by the Governor Soludo’s administration as unprecedented in the governance of the state, explained that the additional teachers will augment the teaching strength of both primary and secondary education in Anambra.

* The new executive members of  Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Anambra State Chapter have been charged to embrace peace and unity by working together to change the face of pharmaceutical practice in the state. The charge  was made by  the Commissioner for Housing, Anambra State, Hon Pauly Onyeka while  receiving the new executive of PSN on courtesy visit  at his Jerome Udorji Office Complex in Awka, recently.

He expressed dismay over the way things are going in the association and accused the members of being guilty of the low ebb  of the profession.

 * Zeelunjo Unity Cup 2024 has kicked off officially on Saturday 25th May 2024 as Amafum Village tackled Ebonano Village in a highly entertaining football match.

President-General Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU) Engr. Dan Anakpe (Zeelunjo) while speaking before the kick-off of the competition said he intend to unit the community more through the tournament which will feature the 27 villages. Engr. Anakpe who is the sponsor of the competition, urged the youths of Nimo participating in the football tournament to maintain the spirit of brotherhood and fair play, stating that the competition will be sustained and hopefully discover hidden talents.

* As Prof. Chukwuma Soludo receives the Governor of the year award on Infrastructure and Rural Development from the Champion Newspaper, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze has described the award as deserving. In his Congratulatory Message on behalf of the State Legislature on the Governor’s award, Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that Governor Soludo’s accomplishments in Anambra State in two years have attracted the attention and assessment of the International and Location Organizations, hence the recognition by the Champion Newspaper. The Speaker who stated that the good governance of Governor Soludo in the state within the two years he has piloted the affairs of the state, surpassed the accomplishments of some Governors in one tenure of four years, commended him for making Ndi Anambra proud through effective transformation of the state.

* The traditional ruler of Akwaeze in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State His Royal Majesty Igwe Christopher Ndubuisi Okpala, Ezenebo III of Akwaeze has unequivocally stated that he will personally ensure that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo gets second term come 2025. Igwe Okpala who was the royal father at the APGA Anaocha Stakeholders political summit held at Golden Tulip Hotel Agulu at the weekend, said although traditional rulers were not supposed to be partisan or engage in politics, he was of the opinion that Governor Soludo has done exceedingly well and therefore deserves another term in office. The Akwaeze monarch maintained that opposition or no opposition, he will prevail on the people of his community to vote massively for Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s reelection because of his sterling performance. 

* United Nations’ Peace and Positive Living Awareness Centre, UN-PEPOLAC, during its Annual General Meeting, held the ground breaking ceremony of its “Peace and Leadership Centre Multipurpose Building” project”. Before commencement of launching for the project, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, represented by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Dr Jude Akpua, highlighted the importance of peace in achieving sustainable development, saying that such necessitated the House to pass peace building bill recently.
