* One of the foremost Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s support groups, Anambra Patriots for Soludo, APS, has embarked on a project to enhance cleanliness and decency among market women in Anambra State for ease of doing business.
The project, which is presumed to be part of the APS’ support to its master’s development strides across the state, was flagged off recently at the popular Coca-Cola Market, Okpoko in Ogbaru LGA of the state, with distribution of thousands of aprons to the traders, free of charge.
According to the Convener of the APS, Arc Okey Ezeobi, the exercise, which he described as a Rebranding Anambra Project by the Patriots, also aimed at making Anambra the best state in the country.
* An international business tycoon, Chief Cletus Ibeto has commissioned a drainage systems, channels and bridges bult by Nnewi North Local Government Chairman Hon. Echezona Anazodo.
The projects, drainage systems and channels at Oduda Nnewichi quarter and Ukwaka bridge at Umudim Nnewi was recently built to ensure stability and sustainability of the bridge which usually collapsed at raining season.
Anazodo and his entourage welcomed by the stakeholders in Nnewi North said the projects were among the numerous others already ongoing across quarter and communities in Nnewi metropolis.
According to the Mayor, the drainage and bridge would not only contain flooding always causing ecological challenges on the road and populace, but would as well as contribute immediately towards easing the movements of goods and services in the vicinity.
* A three years old girl, Faiza Mohammed has been electrocuted by a fallen high tension cable belonging to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in Awka, Anambra State.
The little Faiza Mohammed who lives with her mother and other people in a house under construction and partly abandoned in Isaiah Morah street by Udoka Housing Estate.
They usually go out to fetch water from other compound and not knowing that the wire on the road had power, the innocent girl went near and was electrocuted.
When other children saw what happened, they shouted and the adults who ran out carefully pulled her off, rushing her to Awka Medical Center at Udoka gate but she didn’t make it.
The high tension wire belonging to the EEDC snapped and fell at Isaiah Morah close, Awka.
According to sources, residents of the area contacted the power distribution company to evacuate the wires, but they allegedly ignored the complaint.
* The Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, Monday, said that his government was eager to expand the existing partnership with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Soludo stated this when he received the UNICEF Country Representative in Nigeria, Ms. Cristian Munduate, at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia.
During the visit, the Governor expressed his enthusiasm for collaborative efforts with the organization, with the aim of enhancing the health and well-being of children and youth in the state.
Soludo said: ‘UNICEF has a special place in my heart. Your organization has made enormous strides in improving the health and education of children across Nigeria, and we are proud to be partners in these efforts.
* No fewer than Five Hundred (500) indigene of Obosi have been inaugurated to acquire skilled training on Entrepreneurship in a bid to boost their Vocational Enterprises and livelihood.
The entrepreneurship skills acquisition and training is a pilot phase Project of the Obosi Innovative skill and Empowerment Programme (OBISEP) otherwise called Obosi 1 Household 2 Skills Project a brain child of the Obosi Development Union (ODU) Skills Acquisition, Empowerment and Palliative (SAEP) Committee worldwide.
This OBISEP Entrepreneurship Training is put together in partnership with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Anambra State office, News Echo reports.
The event which took place at the Obosi Town Hall had initially offered Thirty one (31) Vocational Skills to the Graduands such as: Confectionery/Decorations, Solar energy/CCTV Installation, Basic ICT/ Digital Marketing,Cosmetology, Fashion/Cloth Making, Beauty Care/Gele, Poultry/Fishery, Cassava/Yam Production Value chain, Block/Bricks Moulding, Electrical Works/Installation among others.
* The Chief Executive Officer, Worldwide Organization for Women (WOW) Africa, Chief Mrs Carol Ugochukwu, wants Nigerian women to get resolute in their bid for global impact.
Ugochukwu gave the charge at the WOW Conversation 004 held in Awka, Anambra State which coincided with her 80th birthday.
Addressing the gathering virtually, the CEO appreciated all championing women empowerment and gender equality and Team WOW Africa for putting the event together, hoped that the WOW Conversation 004 would spur attendees to contribute more to the global conversation around SDG 5 – gender equality and women’s empowerment.
* Tricycle (Keke) riders in Anambra state have thrown their weight behind the second term bid of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The Keke operators, under the aegis of the Anambra Keke Drivers’ Forum (AKDF), made their position known on Monday during a special interactive session held in Awka.
The Keke drivers also unveiled a campaign sticker in honour of the Governor and to further mobilize support for his second term.
Speaking at the event, the Organizer and Coordinator of the Forum, Comrade Osita Obi said their endorsement and the unveiling of the sticker were in recognition and appreciation of Governor Soludo’s good governance, his numerous people-oriented projects, and the positive impact his administration has had on Keke operators and the general public.
Comrade Obi, who is an activist noted that Governor Soludo had, in less than three years, demonstrated uncommon leadership and proven himself to be a visionary, courageous, and masses-oriented leader with the political will to address long-standing issues, reform the system, and transform the state.
Obi praised Soludo for his massive infrastructural development across the state, especially in rural and urban roads, which he said had drastically reduced vehicle maintenance costs and eased the movement of commuters and Keke riders.
* Organisers of the annual FestDrine/ANSFA All Stars Competition have confirmed that draws for this year’s edition will now hold on Tuesday, 27 May, 2025.
The draws was earlier thought to hold on Friday, 23 May but had to be rescheduled for logistic reasons.
27 teams are understood to have completed registration formalities and will take part in the draws billed for the Corporate Office of the Anambra State Football Association, Udoka Housing Estate, Awka, at 11am.
Ralph Nweke, Secretary of Anambra State Football Association, in a statement disclosed that the Organising Committee of the FA has ratified the Tuesday date for the draws.
* The Anambra Internal Revenue Service, AIRS, has rejected the recently inaugurated Anambra Tricycle Riders’ Association, ANTRA.
In a release signed by the media coordinator, Unified Hybrid Enforcement Team, UHBET, of the AIRS, Hon Chukwunweike Juventus Okoli, the service warned the general public to disregard the inauguration, saying it did not exist.
The release entitled, ”ANTRA’s purported inauguration – AIRS has no idea!”, read in part: ”The public should please take notice that the purported ANTRA’s recent inauguration does not and will never have the blessing of AIRS as such is beyond the purview of the service.
