* Team Electrify won the sum of five hundred thousand naira after emerging winners at the just concluded Techstars Startup Weekend Onitsha, organised by Solution Innovation District (SID). These young techstars within 52 hours developed an IOT energy device, when installed, give users access to electricity at an affordable rate. Addressing the techstars, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Anambra State, Honourable Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, who was astonished by the performances of the team within 52 hours encouraged them to keep building their ideas into reality.
* APGA Stakeholders in Anaocha have conferred upon former reps member Hon. Dozie Ferdinand Nwankwo the award of recognition for his exceptional contributions to community development. This prestigious accolade, presented during their 2024 summit, celebrates Hon. Dozie’s unparalleled dedication and impactful initiatives that have significantly advanced the even development of our zone.
* The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Anaocha LGA led by the Chairman, Chief Anthony Ugorji has empowered nineteen women from the 19 wards in Anaocha LGA. Empowering the women, Hon Engr Ikeobi Ejiofor, the Managing Director of Anambra State Water Resources Management Agency said the gesture was in line with the APGA core value of providing succour to the members of the public and the vulnerable in society.
* Prof. Victor Madubuko, the Chairman of the Anambra Beach Soccer Association, has announced ambitions to incorporate beach soccer into school sports activities across the state. Speaking in Nnewi, Madubuko highlighted the rapid growth and increasing popularity of the sport since the association’s inception two years ago. He acknowledged the support of the Anambra State government, which has pledged to assist in promoting beach soccer by constructing pitches in all 21 local government areas.
* Anambra State government has announced the release of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Basil Gbuzuo from his captors. The priest was abducted at Nkpor, close to Onitsha by unknown gunmen. Press Secretary to Anambra State governor, Mr Christian Aburime who disclosed this in a press release, share details of the priest’s release, but said that Anambra State government has commenced work to exterminate all criminal elements in the state.
* The zonal leader of markets in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu has re-assured that Professor Charles Soludo’s second tenure remains sacrosanct. Chief Ochiogu who doubles as the President General of Ogbaru Main Market gave the assurance after taking newsmen round Soludo Support Group (SSG) office which he opened at Ogbaru Main Market. Ochiogu who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) disclosed that the idea of inaugurating the SSG for the traders to be abreast of the activities of the group in the markets is a good development and would be a bonus for Soludo’s re-election. He described market as a good network for dissemination of information and a gathering place for all classes of people living in different directions, adding that good governance of Professor Soludo and his developmental strides would now flow down to the grassroots level properly.
* Two suspected touts, who specialize in extorting and forcing travellers to board vehicles they don’t want to board, have been arrested in Anambra State. The suspected touts, who around motor parks in Onitsha commercial city, were said to have been arrested by the authorities of the Onitsha South Local Government Area. Confirming this in a statement made available to newsmen, the Onitsha South L.G.A. Media said a total of N81,500 extorted from people by the touts were also recovered and refunded to their rightful owners by the Authorities, who also impounded two buses for the illegalities.
* The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka at the Council Chambers inaugurated the Management Board of the UNIZIK Advancement Board. The board which came into being in February 2024 has its primary objective in ensuring it provide essential support geared towards robust University’s development.
In his address during the inauguration, Prof. Esimone emphasized the crucial role Advancement Boards play in generating funds for prestigious universities, citing their ability to secure endowments from individuals and alumni, a practice yet to be fully realized in Nigerian universities.
* Anambra Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has reiterated the Command’s commitment in enforcing the law and ensuring public safety. CP Itam warned criminal elements after receiving the information on how miscreants under the guise of celebration of the Imoka Awka festival become unruly and make life unbearable for the good people of the State especially residents and indigenes of Awka, The CP while addressing some organizers of the cultural festival comprising the Speaker of Eze Ezu Awka Community, the Palace Secretary of Eze Ezu, the Youth leader, and other stakeholders in Awka in his office at Anambra State Police Command, Awka, and warned criminal elements whose intentions are to hide under this guise to commit a crime to desist forthwith.
* The Anambra state government has extended free hypertension check to all the Primary and Secondary healthcare centers across the state. This is to ensure that more residents take the advantage to undergo medical checks of their blood pressure without paying any money.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has called on both National and State legislatures to enact laws that will guarantee adequate protection and training of the Nigerian children. In his goodwill message on behalf of the State Legislature to mark this year’s Children’s Day Celebrate, Rt. Hon. Udeze enjoined parents to give proper home training and unhindered education to their children in order to get the best from them. The Speaker who described children as the pride of the family, advised parents to show equal love to their children and not to discriminate among them in any manner.
