# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has called on government at different levels as well as stakeholders in education sector to invest heavily in key areas that will guarantee quality and affordable education, healthcare, safe and secure environment for Nigerian children.
In his Goodwill Message to mark this year’s Children’s Day Celebration on behalf of the State Legislature, Rt. Hon. Udeze enjoined parents, teachers and guardians to see proper training of children as a collective responsibility, urging them to continue to give their best in raising responsible children that will advance the country to a long-lasting greatness.
The Speaker who lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo fo his administration’s genuine interest and efforts towards bequeathing Anambra children sound education and brighter future, commended him for offering free education to state’s pupils and students from primary to secondary school in addition to recruiting over 8,000 teachers and other education related accomplishments aimed at repositioning education in the State and the future of the children.
# The second session of the seventh synod of Aguata Diocese Anglican communion has ended at Holy Trinity Parish Ufuma, in Orumba North Local Government Area with a call on Christians to be more committed in their service to God and humanity.
In a sermon, the Bishop of Kebbi Diocese and one time Archbishop of Kaduna Province, Most Reverend Edmund Akanya who described sinners as God’s enemy called on managers of social media to desist from using such in purveying falsehood, and charged those occupying leadership positions to use such in touching lives positively.
In a remark, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor who is the president of the synod, charged Christians especially the synod delegates to domesticate the theme of the synod which was “God’s Great tasks for the Church, the Great commission,” in all their churches and communities in order to enthrone a God fearing society in addition to being faithful servants of God.
# Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu has led a high-powered delegation comprising senior Officers and some friends of the Command on a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Awka (Eze Uzu II), His Royal Highness Igwe Dr Gibson Nwosu.
During the visit, the CP commended the indigenes and residents for their commitment to peace, improved cooperation with security agencies and enhanced safety in Awka.
Orutugu urged other Communities in the State to emulate such conduct in every aspect of their lives.
# The Association of Trans-Nkisi Land Allottees has firmly rejected a resolution passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly regarding a controversial leadership tussle in the area.
The Onitsha based association at a recent emergency meeting held at the association’s hall complex, the incumbent Chairman, Chief Onyebuchi Ndulue, described how, on Wednesday, their premises were stormed by a group of thugs accompanied by police officers, naval personnel, and vigilantee members, allegedly acting on the orders of a certain people.
According to Chief Ndulue, the group claimed they were enforcing a new House of Assembly resolution granting control of the layout to a self-proclaimed “Landlord Association.”
Chief Ndulue noted that there is no recognized Landlord Association in Trans-Nkisi and stated firmly that the layout was allocated by the government to the allottees and remains the legitimate body overseeing it.
# The Speaker, Anambra Children’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Victory Ekwunife has applauded the transformative strides of Governor Chukwuma Soludo across all sectors of the state economy.
Rt. Hon. Ekwunife while speaking during the 2025 Children’s Day celebration held at the Solution Fun City, Awka, particularly lauded the recent passage of the Anambra State Correctional Services Bill by the State House of Assembly, noting that it provides a comprehensive legal framework to ensure humane and effective management of offenders, including juveniles.
# The Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Dr. Ossy Onuko, has commended the Anambra State Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo for transforming the Children’s Day celebration experience with the establishment of Solution Fun City in Awka.
Speaking during the 2025 Children’s Day celebration held at the Awka Fun City, Dr. Onuko described the Governor intervention as a historic moment for the children of Anambra State, noting that the development filled a void that had existed since the state creation in 1991.
“For the past 33 years, children in this state have never experienced anything like this,” Dr. Onuko said. “This Fun City is a proof to the Governor’s commitment to the wellbeing and happiness of Ndi Anambra and especially our children.”
Onuko further described the Fun City as “one of the most impactful projects” initiated by the present administration, adding that its significance and benefits will outlive the current government.
# Child Protection Network, (CPN) has decried the increasing incidents of child sexual abuse in Anambra urging school children to speak up against any form of abuse irrespective of who perpetrates them.
CPN members made the appeal during series of sensitization activities carried out in various schools across the three senatorial districts of the state as a response to the spike in cases of sexual abuse among children.
The campaign tagged “Awareness Creation on Sexual Abuse: Case Reporting and Handling” is powered by the Rule of Law and Anticorruption (RoLAC 2) programme implemented by International IDEA and funded by the European Union.
During the campaign at Community Secondary School Umuokpu-Awka, a member of CPN, Ugochi Freeman, noted that sex is an affair between married adult warning the students not to indulge in it. “Sex is meant for husband and wife to enjoy. Stop stealing what does not belong to you”.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s clarion call for unified action against child bullying.

# The Executive Chairman of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, joined children and stakeholders in a colourful celebration of International Children’s Day at the council headquarters in Abagana.
Barr. Ononiba expressed deep joy as he watched various schools participate in the march past, particularly impressed by the energy, coordination, and pride displayed by the children.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of nurturing young minds, noting that children are the true treasures of any nation and the future leaders of tomorrow.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, child welfare, and youth development, urging parents, teachers, and community leaders to continue playing active roles in shaping a brighter future for all children in Njikoka.
# Anambra State government through the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Universal Learning Solutions (ULS), have launched a comprehensive Jolly Phonics training programme for teachers across the state.
The Jolly Phonics training is part of a broader vision to build a strong educational foundation for children in Anambra State, fostering confident readers and writers for the future and the training, which spans three zones—Awka, Onitsha, and Nnewi—was scheduled for three days in each location.
ASUBEB Chairman, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, emphasized the significance of Jolly Phonics in improving literacy levels among pupils in both primary and junior secondary schools even as she praised the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for its continued support in sponsoring training initiatives and ensuring teachers are well-equipped with modern teaching strategies noting that the training has been instrumental in raising literacy standards across the state.
The Training Manager for the Anambra Chapter, Engineer Innocent Nwosu, described Jolly Phonics as a fun and engaging method that helps children learn to read and write more effectively and maintained that Anambra teachers, especially the younger ones, are catching on quickly and are eager to implement what they have learnt as they are digital, adaptive, and ready to elevate literacy to the next level.
