* The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has called on Anambra workers to be more committed in giving their best as he assures of his government’s continuous support. The Governor made the disclosure at the 2023 Workers’ Day Celebration, held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka. Soludo disclosed that while the organized labour makes up a small portion of the state workforce; Keke drivers, transporters, hawkers, traders, farmers, artisans, and self-employed individuals who are much more in number, are also workers.

* Anambra State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Chris Ogbonna, said that why the relationship between the Trade Union Congress and the Anambra Government has been cordial, is because when issues of disagreement arise, there is always an effort to settle them amicably.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, has inaugurated more than thirty elected officers of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU Women’s wing in Awka. The event which took place at Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center Awka was well attended by members of the association, National Council for Women Societies, Anglican Mothers Union, amongst others.

* The Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Humphrey Emeka Nwafor, has advocated for mass recruitment of personnel to fill vacancies created by mass retirement from the service, worker training and retraining to enable them improve their skills and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state. Other demands made by the Chairman include procurement of new buses for public servants and regular maintenance of existing ones, and the provision of low-cost housing for workers, among others.

* Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker Rt Hon Uche Okafor has described the state workforce as one of the best in the country in terms of comportment, dedication to duty and productivity. ANN reports that in his goodwill message to mark this year’s worker’s day celebration, Okafor extolled the contributions of workers to the development of the country, noting that they are the engine that drive all sectors of the nation’s economy.

* The Head of Service (HOS), Anambra State, Barr. Theodora Igwegbe has assured the state workforce of the state government’s commitment to improve the welfare and working conditions of all the workers. She added that the State Government is committed to ensuring that they receive the support and resources they need to excel in their duties. This was as contained in her goodwill message to the workers made public on May 1 in commemoration of this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

* Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu has appealed to the government of Anambra State, under Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to take actions towards immortalizing the late famous academic, writer and traditional leader, Eze Prof. Chukwuemeka Ike, Ikelionwu of Ndikelionwu. He made the appeal in his remarks at the 3rd Memorial Event of the great icon, organized by the Nigerian Book Foundation, in collaboration with the State Ministry Education and the NUJ, Anambra State   Council, at the Prof Kenneth Dike Library in Awka.

* The Acting Director of Anambra State Library Board, Mrs. Obioma Obalum, has called for sustained campaigns to save the Igbo Language from fading away permanently. Mrs. Obalum, who made the call in Awka, said that with the language still dangerously endangered, Ndigbo should take responsibility to see that the most significant aspect of Igbo Culture is not thrown away.

Mrs. Obalum who stated that Ndigbo would be held accountable if the Igbo Language goes into extinction, urged families, schools, religious bodies, communities, government and other critical stakeholders, to be at the vanguard of reviving the revered mother tongue.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh had commended the state JAMB board for efforts put in place to serve Anambra UTME candidates effectively throughout the examination, explaining that she visited all the JAMB centres in the state to check the condition of computers as well as speed of the network in centres, confirming that the centres are in good condition for the exercise.
