* The Anambra North Solution Movement (ANSM) has held a strategic stakeholders’ meeting at Best Western Meloch Hotel, Awka. 

The meeting was chaired by the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, Ph.D

The gathering brought together Commissioners, elected officials, political appointees under APGA from Anambra North, and other committed stakeholders across the zone. Discussions centered on strengthening the unity of Anambra North, deepening support for Governor Soludo’s administration, and pushing forward the zoning principle as a path to equity and continuity.

* The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has been honored with the prestigious “Workers’ Beacon of Hope” award by Organized Labour during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration.

The event marked by colorful parades, solidarity speeches, and renewed commitments to sustaining harmony between the government and organized labour in the state.

The Labour Leaders during the event held on Thursday at the, Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, commended Soludo for his proactive implementation of the 2024 national minimum wage.

The award recognizes Governor Soludo’s remarkable empathy, dedication, and consistent support for workers across Anambra State.

In their separate speeches, the representatives of both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) lauded Governor

Soludo’s administration for fostering a worker-friendly environment, promoting welfare reforms, and upholding dignity in public service.

* In a show of empathy and solidarity, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, the Mayor of Njikoka LGA has paid a condolence visit to the family of Hon. Alexander Obiora Anene, the Councillor representing Enugwu Ukwu Ward 2, over the passing of his beloved wife, Mrs. Obianuju Jane Francess Anene.

During the visit, Mayor Ononiba expressed deep sorrow over the painful loss and offered comforting words to Hon. Anene, his family, and the entire Enugwu Ukwu Ward 2 community. He described the late Mrs. Anene as a woman of grace and virtue whose memory will remain cherished.

The Mayor also prayed for God’s strength and grace to guide the bereaved family through this difficult time, asking the Almighty to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

* An Industrialist, Dr Joseph Ezeokafor, has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for all his efforts aimed at saving Ndi Anambra from erosion ravaging parts of the state.

Speaking at Ekwulobia in Aguata LGA, Dr Ezeokafor maintained that such interventions by the Governor in checking gully erosion, especially the age-long Umuchiana Ekwulobia gully erosion control project, will go along way in saving lives, in addition to safeguarding property; which are being threatened by gully erosion, and called on Ndi Anambra to continue with their support to the Soludo administration.

While calling on those in elective positions to emulate Governor Soludo in prudent management of resources, Dr Ezeokafor, who is a major stakeholder of the All progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, noted that the Governor has, through quality service delivery, restored people’s confidence in governance.

* President Bola Tinubu will be in Anambra State on Thursday, May 8, 2025 to officially commission some of the completed projects of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Governor Soludo made the announcement while addressing Labour Unions members at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square Awka on Thursday, during this year 2025 Worker’s Day celebration.

“This is a proof that my administration is furging a partnership that works. I urge ndi Anambra to give President Tinubu a resounding welcome, Soludo stated.

The project to be commissioned are: New Government House, Solution Funcity and Anambra Country Club, New Government Lodge, Emeka Anyaoku Center Unizik Awka and New Presidental Lodge.

* Police Operatives attached to the B-Division acting on credible information raided an uncompleted building at Iyiagu Estate, Awka.

During the operation, three suspects were arrested while one locally made revolver pistol and some substances suspected to be hard drugs were recovered. 

The suspects: Paulinus Nkuda, Nwankwo Emmanuel, and Nwadede Godspower, all males, stated that the pistol belonged to one Chukwuebuka, whose second name is unknown but popularly known as Nwa Onitsha who is currently at large.

Anambra State Police Command, the suspects and the Case have been transferred to the Anti Kidnapping/Rapid Response Unit of the Command for further investigation. 

The Operatives have also intensified the manhunt for the possible arrest of Nwa Onitsha. 

* The Anambra state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, stated that the country as a true federal state needed not to negotiate and implement a uniform minimum wage.

Soludo, who stated this at 2025 workers day celebration held at Awka, by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), observed that each state should be allowed to negotiate with their workers on what should become their minimum wage based on available resources.

According to him, this was the best way of providing the workers’ welfare in the current economic reality because Nigeria was not a capitalist state even as all have their various differences and other factors to be considered.

* The Executive Chairman of Awka-North LGA, Hon. ThankGod Chibuike Anagor has revealed that Awka-North is the first local government area in the state to construct quality tarred road under his watch.

Anagor who disclosed this in Awka, maintained that Awka-North is currently transiting from a forlorn council area to becoming the admiration of other local governments in the state because Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has remembered them after many decades of oblivion.

The Mayor stated that his government has done the very first quality tarred road in the state from Amansea linking the old  Enugu-Onitsha expressway at Amaowelle in Amansea community of the council area.

* The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has given very cogent reasons the state government suspended sporting activities at the renewed and rebranded Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square Awka contrary to speculative statements in some sections of the social media regarding the suspension of exercises and walkouts in the government reserved area.

Speaking to newsmen while inspecting ongoing works along Ekwueme Square road Awka, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, Hon. Chief Osita David Onuko said government suspended exercises and other sporting activities because of the enormous works and regeneration going on in the government reserved area.

Onuko explained that the government reserved area is called the three arms zone housing the new Government House, Governor’s Lodge, the House of Assembly Complex and the Judiciary respectively, stressing that it is a very important area in Awka capital city and that the functionality of governance largely depends on the area.

* The Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, has appealed to residents to present their children for immunisation against the poliovirus.

Azubuike made the call at the flag-off of the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) held at the council secretariat.

He urged residents to actively participate in the ongoing polio vaccination campaign.
