# Tension is mounting in Anambra State following a dramatic backlash against Prof. Chukwuma Soludo over the decision to rename the Uli campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University after former Governor Chinweoke Mbadinuju.

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), an Onitsha-based human rights organization led by Comrade Emeka Umeagbalasi, fiercely condemned the move, insisting that no campus of the university should bear any other name apart from that of the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

In a statement, the group argued that the university had already been permanently immortalized in Ojukwu’s name since 2014 under the administration of former Governor Peter Obi, making any attempt to rename any of its campuses “an exercise in futility.”

Although the organization acknowledged that Mbadinuju established the institution in 2000 as Anambra State University, it maintained that the later renaming in honour of Ojukwu superseded every other consideration.

According to the group, tampering with any part of the institution’s identity risks undermining the legacy of the revered Igbo figure widely known as Eze Igbo Gburugburu.
