* The Anambra State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Ambassador Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi, has urged Ndigbo to leverage their numerous human assets to assert their relevance in the country in order to build a much more developed and economically viable Southeast. Comrade Chukwudi spoke with newsmen in Awka on the state of affairs in Anambra concerning what he described as the strategic steps taken by the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo in the past one year to advance the development of the state.

* The member representing Njikoka one Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Ifedioranma, says appointing justice and judges to lead the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as chairman and other key officials, will get the nation’s electoral process to the long desired standard. The legislator made the submission while featuring as a guest in a media programme in Awka recently. The Anambra lawmaker, who was of the opinion that professor chairmen of the INEC had failed to get the elections in the country right due to their lack of requisite technical know-how, believed that selecting the key officers of electoral umpire from the judiciary was the way to go.

* The Chairman of Anambra State Football Association (FA), Chikelue ‘D’General’ Iloenyosi has inaugurated a seven-member media Committee for the maiden edition of the BrainBox Football League. ANN reports that the brief inauguration ceremony took place at the FA Office, on Monday, May 1, 2023. BrainBox League tournament, according to the FA boss and former Dream Team (U23 Eagles) and Super Eagles defender, will involve all the 21 local government teams in the state.

* Traders under the auspices of “Union Plywood and Joinery Association ( UPJA)”, Onitsha in Anambra State, have threatened to sue the Anambra State Government and Onitsha South Local Government Council for allegedly demolition their structures worth over one billion naira. To this end, the leadership of UPJA led by Chief Emmanuel Obunso, has called on the state  governor, Charles Soludo, to direct the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government, Hon. Emeka Orji to rebuild their plaza pulled down by his agents recently.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has told civil servants in Anambra that the every Monday sit at home has become a convenient excuse. 

ANN reports that the Governor made the disclosure at the 2023 Workers’ Day Celebration, held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka. 

* Traders at Ogbaru Main Market have cried out for help following the collapse of a portion of Sakamori bridge in the area. The President-General of the market,  Mr. Ndubuisi Ochiogu who spoke on behalf of the traders appealed to the Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA) and State Government to assist them to fix the failed portion of the abandoned Sakamori bridge.

*Former Governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi has urged Nigerian students to study well to achieve greatness in life. Obi emphasized the need for proper and quality education among the Nigerian students, citing some renowned Nigerians like, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Professor Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the late literary giant, Professor Ike who made history and became famous as great writers.

While speaking in Awka, the the Labour Party Presidential Candidate described late Professor Ike as a man whose legacies will remain forever, and advised students to strive for knowledge, values and good behavior which he said is a ground for greatness.

* The Federal Ministry of Health, in conjunction with some Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO), have raised alarm about the high level of tuberculosis cases in Anambra State. The NGOs, KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, and Breakthrough Action Nigeria, made the revelation during a training workshop for journalists, to create awareness on the disease in the state.

* The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo says plans are on to immortalize late literary icon and traditional ruler of Ndikelionwu, Professor Chukwuemeka Ike. Soludo spoke through the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, at an event organized by the Nigerian Book Foundation in collaboration with Anambra State Ministry of Education and Nigerian Union of Journalists Anambra State Council to remember Professor Chukwuemeka Ike, three years after his demise.

* Aggrieved ad hoc staff members of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Anambra State, for the just concluded general elections, have concluded arrangements to besiege the commission’s headquarters in Awka, on a peaceful demonstration, to compel the electoral umpire to pay their allowances in the shortest possible time. One of the leaders of the ad hoc workers, Engr Chidiebere Okafor, disclosed this to the press in a media chat
