* The Managing Director of the Transport Company of Anambra State, TRACAS, Mr. Chike Obiakor says over two hundred kilometers of roads constructed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo has boosted transport business and socio-economic activities. Obiakor made this known while speaking with journalists in Umuona, Aguata local government area. The TRACAS Boss noted that the development has aided smooth movement of the company’s vehicles in all parts of the state and lauded Governor Soludo for utilizing tax payers’ money by fixing dilapidated roads across the state which has reduced the rate at which commercial bus drivers and private car owners visit mechanic workshops to repair their vehicles.

* Saint Felix Catholic Church, Nise, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, was a beehive of activities  as the pioneer priest of the community, Very Rev. Monsignor Dr Simon Uchenna Amateze, celebrated his 50th Priestly Ordination Anniversary. In his congratulatory message, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, described Msgr. Amateze as a priest, formator and educationist, saying that he had served the Word and drawn strength with which to feed God’s people.

* The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ABU Mmaduaburochukwu Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO)

Chief Christopher Attah, in commemoration of his birthday, paid a visit and secured the bail of ten inmates of Awka and Onitsha Correctional Centres. Chief Attah also visited the less privileged and Priests Welfare Home in Awka. The bail bonds of the inmates, five each from Awka and Onitsha were offset and they were also empowered to startup their lives again. 

* The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike says Anambra State Goverment has gotten approval to establish a brand new College of Nursing and Midwifery in the Ekwulobia axis, Aguata Local Goverment Area. Dr. Obidike disclosed this during the 2024 First Quarter Health Sector Partnership meeting organized by the State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO). Speaking during the two day programme, the Health Commissioner appreciated all the development partners working in the state, especially WHO, for their invaluable support to Ndi Anambra in terms of providing effective healthcare delivery.

* Awka based lawyer, R. O. Okonkwo, has called on the Nigerian Police authority to beam searchlight on the activities of a Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Anambra State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID Awka, Mr. Akin Fakorade in order to bring sanity and professionalism back to the department that will ensure safety of the people in the state at all times. Barrister Okonkwo, who spoke to journalists in Awka, alleged that the deputy police commissioner in-charge of the SCID has jettisoned crime prevention in the state capital and now waits for people that will bring land matters so as to make money. Making money from land matters, he claimed , is the reason the Police officers refuse to go on transfer from Anambra because they are used for land grabbing.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Comrade ThankGod Anago has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for the revitalization of the state pipe borne water scheme. Comrade Anago who disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Awka, noted that the revitalization of the pipe borne water project will help to reduce water borne diseases and restore cleanliness in the state. He noted that the move has indeed shown that Governor Soludo has the interest of Ndi Anambra and other residents of the state at heart.

Anago called on ndi Anambra and other stakeholders, especially Ndi Igwe and Presidents-General to ensure that they safeguard all government facilities in their various communities.

* The Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK, Prof Charles Esimone has commended the Director of Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka,  on a one-day exhibition of various innovatively made products, recently, at the institution’s premises, saying the entrepreneurship exhibition was one with a lot of surprises. The Vice-Chancellor, who could not hide his joy as he inspected the products one after the other without minding his tight busy schedule, said, ‘Without being equivocal in any form or manner, this is a particular event if taken outside here, to the state and the federal capitals, you will see a lot of participation from a lot of people.’

* The Anambra State Chairman of the All-Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Barrister Ifeatu Obi-Okoye has asked Ndi Anambra to join the party as it begins nationwide E-registration exercise.

Obi-Okoye gave the charge at the party’s regional office in Awka while breaking down the importance of the meeting of the executives of the three hundred and twenty-six wards of APGA in the state.

According to the Anambra APGA state chairman, the move is in consonant with the Electoral Act 2022, directing all party members to electronically generate their membership cards to ensure that copies of their registration is electronically transmitted to INEC database to avoid manipulation of all sorts.

 

* In line with its determination to encourage youths towards living a positive lifestyle, FrankGlobal Connect has held a conference to address the factors that make young people to abuse different types of illicit drugs and other challenges facing them. The conference held in Awka, attracted youths from different parts of the state, members of FrankGlobal Connect, Anambra State Chapter. The conference had its theme: “Drug Abuse and its consequences: How to be a useful youth.”
