* The National Population Commission has been urged to use the window provided by the postponement of the 2023 National Population and Housing Census to put in place necessary logistics and manpower to meet expectations of Nigerians. Speaking in Awka, the Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene called on community leaders and other stakeholders to increase enlightenment of the people on need to be part of the exercise. Chief Okeke-Ogene said time has come to correct the mistake made during the last census exercise which has continued to adversely affect states of the South East in national affairs.
* The Anambra state government has arrested three suspects for threatening and assaulting officials on internal generated revenue drive with fire arms. The Managing Director, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere disclosed this while parading the suspects at the agency’s headquarters in Awka.
* His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali-Aba has inaugurated the new Methodist Church of Nigeria, Awka diocese while the Archbishop, Enugu Archdiocese, Most Reverend Christopher Edeh, enthroned Rt. Rev. * The Governor, Eastern Bar Forum, Chief Uba Anene has charged the Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu-led leadership of the Ohaneze Ndigbo to ensure the amplifying of the Igbo voice in Nigeria. In a post congratulatory message to the new Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership in Awka, Chief Anene urged the executive of the association to champion the restoration of justice, equity, and fairness in particular where it concerns the Igbo man in Nigeria.
* The Transition Committee Chairman Orumba South LGA, Prince SN Uchendu has commended the pace of work at the ongoing construction of Ajalli-Akpu-Nawfija-Ogbunka road project. Speaking to newsmen at the site, Prince Uchendu commended the quality of work being executed by the contractor, saying that it would stand the test of time. He described the road project as a remarkable one and a commitment by the administration of Prof. Charles Soludo to the provision of good governance in the state.
* Anambra State house of assembly at their recent plenary confirmed 21 Transition Committee Chairmen for another three months. Anambra Speaker Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor while congratulating the chairmen urged them to contribute their quota to the development of the state. He reminded them that their appointment was a call to duty and service to the people.
* As penetrations and permutations deepen for the leadership of the incoming 8th Anambra State House of Assembly, Ejike Okechukwu, a re-elected lawmaker has stressed that the Speaker would be determined by the party with the absolute majority; the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Okechukwu who is representing Anaocha 2 state constituency in the outgoing 7th legislature, opined that out of the 30 seats in the 8th assembly, APGA secured 16 seats while other political parties shared 14 seats amongst themselves. He therefore added that the outcome of the state assembly election in Anambra, puts APGA at a vantage position to decide the leadership of the House of Assembly in the next dispensation.
* Mr. Christian Udechukwu has been sworn in as the Commissioner for Industry, Anambra State. Governor Soludo performed the function at the Executive Chambers, Government House, Awka. Mr. Evarist Ubah was also sworn in as Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Markets. The swearing-in was witnessed by members of Anambra State Executive Council. By the ceremony, the duo were officially inducted as members of the Council.
* Committee of former students of Very Rev. Prof. Peter -Damian Akpunonu has rolled out the drums of celebrations to honour the outstanding personality for his contributions towards advancement of ecclesiastical vocations and development of the society as he clocked eighty.
A pontifical mass to mark the event held at Blessed Iwene Tansi Major Seminary Onitsha and was graced by a College of Bishops, priests, the religious, top government officials as well as dignitaries from the state and beyond. The celebrant who was the former Rector, Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu as well as the Catholic Institute of West Africa, CIWA Port-Harcourt was surrounded by family members, friends and well-wishers.
* The wife of the governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo has advised those living in flood prone areas of the state to prepare to move to higher grounds following predictions of heavy flooding this year. Mrs Soludo who made the call in Awka, explained that the early flood notice which was contained in a February Annual Flood Outlook for 2023, released by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, provided enough time to plan in order to minimize the losses that come with the natural disaster.
