* Members of Anambra State House of Assembly on Monday 5th May 2025, began a two day leadership retreat with the theme: The Legislature And State Development.

Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze in his speech at the
event held at the Agulu Lake Resort and conference center, said laws that will strengthen governance in the state has been passed.

Rt. Hon. Udeze stated that the legislatures and the executive has been working closely while maintaining its independence. He revealed that the 8th Assembly has worked hard and it is reflecting in the giant strides of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

 

* The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, under the leadership of the Rector, Chioma Irene Awuzie, has presented nine academic programmes to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for accreditation

The programmes presented include ND Marketing, HND Hospitality Management and Technology, SLT Biochemistry Option
and Biochemistry/Microbiology, HND Surveying and Geo-Informatics Technology, HND Mechanical Engineering Technology.

These were submitted for both resource inspection and verification.

 

* Mr. Jeff Nweke, the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), has likened his quest for the Anambra State governorship seat to the biblical tale of David and Goliath.

With an unwavering resolve, Nweke stated that he is ready to take on the giants in the race, armed with nothing but his conviction and a catapult, while his opponents are like Goliaths with the symbol of AK47.

Speaking during an interactive session with the media, Nweke emphasized that as a Nigerian, he is exercising his constitutional rights to vote and be voted for.

He expressed confidence that, if elected, he would make a significant impact as governor, bringing about positive change to the state.

 

 

* Former Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka has called for legislative-judicial harmony, stating that laws must be written with constitutional clarity to avoid being struck down.

The former FRSC boss in his lecture in a two day leadership retreat with the theme: “The Legislature And State Development” organized by Anambra State House of Assembly, maintained that engagement with legal drafters and judicial officers during key legislative reforms, improved case management and faster resolution of land and civil disputes is vital.

“Principles of collaborative governance, said the objective of the retreat is to reaffirm and deepen understanding of the constitutional responsibilities of State legislation, equip Honourable members with practical knowledge of modern lawmaking, oversight and committee work.

” Introduce low-cost, high-impact digital tools for legislative transparancy and citizen engagement. Share relevant examples of successful sub-national legislatures from Nigeria and comparable democracies. Build members capacity to leverage WhatsApp, Facebook and emerging tools like WhatsApp Channels for communication and Mobilisation. Develop actionable steps towards improving the Assembly’s operational visibility, digital presence and public trust. Chidoka urged.

* The Director of Agribusiness Incubation Centre, (ABIC), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Dr Philips Ntoo, says government should adopt the agriculture and industrial model of the late Premier of Eastern Nigeria for accelerated national development.

Dr Ntoo, gave the advice at the sidelines of the 2nd Michael Okpara memorial lecture organised by the university.

He stressed the need for both the federal government and the states that make up the defunct Eastern Region to study and adopt the Okpara models for the economic transformation of the country.

The Agribusiness Director who expressed regrets that successive governments have failed to build upon the legacies of the late Premier, noted that if successive governments had sustained the industrial and agricultural revolution, Nigeria would not have been talking about food insecurity and unemployment now.

* The Anambra State Security Chiefs convened on Monday, 5th May 2025, in a closed-door meeting to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the scheduled visit of President Bola Tinubu on Thursday.

The high-level meeting, which lasted for five hours, featured detailed briefings from heads of various security agencies.

The deliberations focused on reviewing current security intelligence, assessing threat levels, and implementing fortified security measures within the capital city and across strategic locations.

Key areas of focus included joint operational deployment, coordinated patrols, and surveillance strategies.

The session addressed operational planning, inter-agency coordination, and contingency preparedness, ensuring the development of robust response strategies for various possible scenarios during the presidential visit.

 

* The Chairman Dunukofia LGA, Hon. Chijioke Ozumba has initiated and embarked on a programme tagged “Dunukofia Local Government Council’s Youth Empowerment Scheme”, an ongoing continuous programme.

In his speech, Ozumba said the objective of the programme is to identify and set up youths who have, over the years, undergone trainings and learned various handiworks but, unfortunately, they have been unable to kick start these handiworks due to lack of equipment or fund to purchase the needed equipments,
especially those of them without any help from anyone in their favour, till date.

“These youths, as a result, couldn’t but end up loitering about the streets of Dunukofia Local Government, aimlessly, due to their jobless situation”. The Mayor said.

 

* The former Clark of Anambra Assembly, Mr. Pius Udoh said for there to be development, good laws has to be made, applied and enforced fairly and consistently.

In his paper presentation titled “Law making and development of the state: reflection on some of the laws passed by the 8th Assembly since its inception”, in a two day leadership retreat organized by the Anambra State House of Assembly,
Udoh maintained that transparency, accountability, participation, responsiveness, monitoring and accessment and legal report are basic qualities.

” lawmaking should be open accessible to the public, allowing for scrutiny and participation. Lawmakers should be accountable for their legislative actions. They should explain their as being in public interest” Udoh said.

 

* The South East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has held its zonal meeting in Awka, Anambra State, hosted by the Anambra State Chapter of NAWOJ.

The meeting was presided over by the National Vice President of Zone C, Comrade Amaka Agbo.

ZEC applauds Governor Charles Soludo for his notable infrastructural development efforts and his proactive stance on security through the launch of the Agu Na Eche Mba security outfit, which has significantly improved safety across the state.

 

* The Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Chief Emeka Orji has administered first round of Natural Immunization Plus Days, NIPDs, to children under 0-5 years to flag off the immunization in the area.

Orji during the flag off at Umunna Primary Health Center Odoakpu 2, expressed his joy for the health facilities in the area, commended the health workers for their dedication to work, pledged his support to all the health centers in the area and free drugs supply and other necessary things needed until completion of his tenure as the Chairman of the area
