* The member representing Anambra West constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Patrick Obalum-Udoba says only dredging of rivers Niger and Omambala will end the perennial flooding threatening his constituents.
Udoba stated this while speaking on the devastating effects of flooding on Ndi Anambra West and other parts of the state.The Lawmaker noted that the perennial flooding has been the greatest enemy of his people over the years.
* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has commissioned a 250-bed capacity female hostel built and donated by Chief Ikenna Okafor, the founder of Nzekwuabuo Foundation in Community High School Akwaeze, Anaocha Local Government Area. Soludo also laid the foundation stone for the male hostel and inspected the equipped science laboratories, an E-library, a multi-purpose hall, an ICT hub, and a 60 KVA diesel-powered generator donated by the foundation.
* Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka has adjourned hearing in the case of a father accused of defiling his biological children aged eighteen months, four and eight years. ANN reports that presiding judge, Justice Ike Ogu, after listening to the witness, adjourned the matter to 15th June and 18th July 2023 for cross examination and continuation of trial.
*The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works has expressed reservations over the type of road projects some contractors are executing in the state after being mobilised with tax payers’ money. Chairman of the Committee on Works and lawmaker representing Njikoka 1 constituency Hon Timothy Ifedioramma who spoke in an interview said the Committee will expose every contractor that will contravene the 20 years agreement on roads being constructed across Anambra state.
* The Anambra state government has endorsed Onitsha City Marathon (OCM), a long distance race event organised by the Onitsha Business School. The endorsement was conveyed in a letter signed by Chief Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission. The government also endorsed the second edition of OCM slated for Sept. 30 this year.
* Dr. Greg Ezeilo, a Mathematician from the University of Benin, Benin City has assured Ndi Anambra that using electronics to drive tax collection in the state will help to prevent the loss of funds to illegal tax collectors, as well as reduce unwarranted deaths during the process of collection of taxes at various locations across the state. ANN reports that the newly appointed Executive Director by Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the State Board of Internal Revenue, explained that Anambra State Government will introduce electronic trackers to track trucks coming into Anambra State with goods.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh has advised students in the state to avoid examination malpractice in order to actualise their potentials. The commissioner gave the advice while speaking in Awka recently. Chuma-Udeh explained that cheating in examinations destroys one’s destiny and academic future, and warned that students must learn to believe in themselves and face their academic works squarely, to be useful to themselves and the society.
* Anambra State has once again demonstrated its pride of place as the cradle of academic excellence in the country as Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, a student of the Anglican Girls Secondary School Nnewi (AGSS) emerged the overall best student in the 2023 Joint Admission Matriculation Board examination with an aggregate score of 362 . Anambra State Commissioner of Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh while commending the brilliant performance of Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma described it as “excellent and very outstanding.”
* The Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu has described the killing of three policemen in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area of the state as an unfortunate incident, while also noting that reinforcement teams were already in the area. “It is an unfortunate incident and is part of the highest price security officers pay in serving the nation but the police command is not deterred by this development. The reinforcement teams are already in the area and the manhunt for the assailants is ongoing while joint security patrols have been intensified in the area,” DSP Tochukwu said in a short statement made available to newsmen.
* About sixty kilometers of roads have been completed by the Soludo administration to boost socio-economic activities of Anambra State. The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma disclosed this when top officials of the Ministry of Works interfaced with Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the review of the implementation of the 2023 budget of the Ministry held at the Legislative Complex, Awka recently.
