* Anambra state Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Julius Chukwuemeka has tasked Christians to always ensure that love and unity lead in their lives. Chukwuemeka made this known after a pontifical high mass for the solemn dedication of St Mary’s Catholic Church, Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area. The Commissioner maintained that the world would be a better place if Christians begin to live Christlike life and congratulated the parish priest of the church, Reverend Father Martin Atumanya and the parishioners of St Mary’s Parish for building a befitting house for God and promised to always support in the propagation of the gospel.
* The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Anambra chapter has suspended the indefinite strike it embarked upon on March. Chairman of the Association, Mr Abraham Okoye while speaking on Tuesday in Awka, said the decision was reached after the government had set in motion measures to address their demands. Okoye said that part of the measures was to address issues of unpaid peculiar allowances of the staff of state House Assembly.
* Stakeholders in Eziowelle Community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra said they have takenover of the leadership of the town following the expiration of the tenure of the former President General Bar Titus Akpudo whose tenure expired three years ago. The stakeholders led by the respective branch Chairmen across the country also said they will approach the court to stop Bar Titus Akpudo from parading himself as president general since his tenure has expired in 2021. The stakeholders said the Traditional Ruler of the town Igwe Micheal Ugoji Okonkwo and the firmer President General of the town are imposing an illegal government on the town through the sit tight leadership of Akpudo style.
* Indigenes of Amakor village in Nanka, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State have cried out over the devastating effect of erosion in their environment as a result of sand miners.
The outcry is coming months after the Governor Chukwuma Soludo banned the activities of sand excavators in the community. Leaders of the village under the aegis of Amakor Njikoka Development Union in a press release signed by its chairman and secretary, Mr. Ilo Obinna Daniel and Mr. Patrick Okole respectively and made available to journalists in Awka, accused the traditional ruler and president general of Nanka community, Igwe Godwin Ezilo and Rev. Can. Ifeanyi Ezike of being behind the excavation of sand in the village.
* Members of the Anambra State House of Assembly on Wednesday commenced a three-days retreat at Best Western Plus Hotel, Nza Street, Independent Layout, Enugu State. The three days retreat will see the legislative members taken through lectures centered on ‘Oversight as a tool for good governance’, ‘An overview of the committee system’ ‘The budget as an effective mechanism for delivering the government’s agenda; Review of the appropriation processes’ among other lectures. Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze in his opening remark, said the essence of the retreat is to improve the capacity of members to ensure quality representation while also serving as an avenue to appraise the function of the Assembly nearly a year since it came on board.
* The processes for the United Nations to build its Peace and Conflict Centre in Anambra State through her international body known as United Nations Peace and Positive Living Awareness Centre (UN-POPLAC) has commenced. The organisation’s International Coordinator, Most Rev. Dr. Ozioma Ozoemena while speaking to Journalists during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of Awka Capital Development Authority (ACTDA), Mr. Ossy Onuko, said that the peace centre which would be the first in the south eastern states and will serve as an Alternative Disputes Resolution Center where people get judgement and disputes resolved. According to Dr.
Ozoemena, the peace centre which would be built in Awka, Anambra State, would serve as a training ground, adding that peace and conflict resolution was a major focus of the organization and it’s aim was to reduce conflicts in the country.
* Anambra State Police Command says the report that 21 Soldiers were killed by gunmen is misleading, unfounded, and false. Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a release made available to Angel Network News (ANN) maintained that the Command wishes to state that the report is untrue, a product of fiction, and the handiwork of mischief-makers.
According to the PPRO, the Command in dismay at the news, has observed that the said hospital mentioned in the report, where the corpses of the soldiers are allegedly kept, does not exist in Awka, the State Capital.
* Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS) Drivers has expressed their displasure against forceful installation of tracking devices on their vehicles with N45,000 cost. The management of the company had ordered that every driver in the company must install tracking device at the cost of N45,000. The Vice President of TRACAS drivers, Mr. Okwudiri Okonkwo Felix said they may embark on peaceful protest on Friday to draw to the attention of the governor Prof Charles Soludo to their plights. The VP said the forceful imposition of N45,000 to install tracker devices in their private vehicles was uncalled for.
