* Bigly Oil & Gas Services, one the authorised revenue collectors and partners of the Anambra Internal Revenue Service, has commended the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on sending strong signals about the quest to break the poverty cycle in the State with the 1Youth 2Skills Initiative. ANN recall that Governor Soludo, in an unprecedented feat, empowered 5000 Anambra youths with the sum of 2.5Billion Naira and in the process churned out 5000 job creators in a massive human capital development drive.
* Women of Patience and Help Organization, WPHO has held its women summit and youth empowerment programme at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka,
ANN gathered that the event was aimed at providing a platform for women and youths to foster acquisition of financial and leadership skills which will lead to personal growth. Some of the topical areas covered by the summit and youth programme include career development, financial literacy, healthy lifestyle and mentorship.
* The Anambra government has said Chikelue Ilonenyosi, Chairman of the State Football Association lacked the powers to suspend or ban its staff under the Sports Development Commission from carrying out their duties as assigned to them including organising of football activities. Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of the Sports Commission said this in a letter to AnSFA on Tuesday while reacting to the purported ban on Chijioke Onyedika, a staff of the of the Commission from taking part in football activities for a period of five years.
* Anambra State House of Assembly staff under the aegis of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) have commenced an indefinite strike. ANN gathered that the strike is to press home their demand for a financial autonomy of the legislative arm of government. Staff of the legislative arm of government who reported to work on monday were barred by the union’s taskforce from accessing the assembly complex. Chairman, PASAN in Anambra state, Mr Abraham Okoye in an interview with journalists said the indefinite strike was as a result the inability of the executive arm of various states to accord full financial autonomy to the legislative arm.
* The Nigerian Institute of Architects, Anambra State Chapter, has hosted its annual conference for the year 2023. The conference, held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, featured a diverse range of discussions and presentations, centered on the critical issue of ensuring sustainability in the environment.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed condolences on the passing of the former Secretary-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Prof. Ben Nwabueze who died on Sunday 29, October 2023. Governor Soludo in his tribute to the late legal luminary and elder statesman remarks that Prof. Nwabueze’s influence extended far beyond his home state, noting that he lived all his life inspiring generations of legal minds and citizens alike to strive for a more just and equitable society.
* As part of its corporate social responsibility, a Chinese firm, Zhotian Construction Company, has offered to pay school fees for all SS 1 – 3 students of Igwebuike Grammar School Awka for one academic year. Announcing the offer at the school, the Managing Director of the construction firm, Mr Makoan Tu, who said he passes through the school almost everyday while going to his nearby construction site at the Solution Fun City, explained that the gesture is also in support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s free education programme and other efforts aimed at ensuring that every child in Anambra has access to quality education.
* Ndi Eziagulu Aguleri in Anambra East Council Area came out en masses to celebrate their “Onwa Isaa” also known as “Ikenga” Festival. Speaking on the significance of the festival, Obi Eziagulu Aguleri, Chief Chinedu Udoba called on the people of the community and all sons and daughters of Aguleri to hold on to, promote and preserve their culture and traditions because it id their heritage.
* The Anambra state government has flagged off “Solution Theatrical Course” in all secondary schools across the state. Governor Soludo revealed that art is life and as such it will be a powerful tool to inculcate positive policies and programmes and as well drive their individual talents for alternative means of livelihood in future. The Governor who described drama as a living literature, explained that the Solution Theatrical Course will be taken as clubs in schools
* Anambra government has assured that Governor Chukwuma Soludo led administration will complete all the roads under construction across the state soon, and commence new ones alongside other critical projects that will make the state exceptional. Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim stated this during a rally organized by Anambra Central Zonal wing of Soludo Ambassadors at Umudioka hall in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area.
