* Youths have been called to embrace the concept of healthy lifestyle in order to be more productive physically and mentally thereby contributing to the development of communities and the nation at large. The call was made by the State Coordinator, NYSC, Anambra State, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma during the community youth engagement organized by “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo”.
* The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated 300 packs of sanitary pads and 100 gallons of disinfectant in support of pad bank initiative recently launched by the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo.
The Anambra State Director of WHO, Dr Abdulnasir Adamu who handed over the items to the healthy living team in Awka, noted that WHO shares interest in what the Anambra governor’s wife is doing in the areas of menstrual hygiene, health education and girl child support. Dr Adamu equally noted that the programme modules of Mrs Soludo’s NGO, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, fall within the working objectives of WHO for developing countries, including her commitment to nutrition, hygiene, mental health, mother and infant health and environmental reforms.
* Anambra State government has initiated a renewed crackdown on illegal structures along the Chinua Achebe International Airport road, Umueri, Anambra East Council Area. The joint government special task force established to identify and demolish such structures embarked on the exercise and reiterated that the land had since been acquired by Anambra State government for overriding public interest. ANN gathered that the task force composed of government officials and security officers, demolished the illegal structures mainly perimeter fences along the road.
* The traditional ruler of Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Chidubem Iweka has called on the five South East governors to convoke a meeting to rescue the zone from terrorists.
The agitation for a separate state has for sometime plunged the zone into several crimes, including kidnappings, armed robberies and more. Igwe Iweka who spoke during a traditional ceremony in his community; Obiora festival said other Igbo stakeholders need to urgently join the governors to discuss a way to rid the zone of terrorism.
* The President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe has called on their members to maintain regular exercises for a healthy living. Comrade Adigwe who made the call at the ongoing 2023 NULGE Week holding in Abuja, said that regular exercise is critical and essential to the well-being of every individual, especially NULGE members that are always saddled with enormous responsibilities.
Comrade Adigwe who is the leader of Anambra contingent at the Abuja 2033 NULGE Week pointed out that the Union underscored the importance of exercise which is why various sporting activities were included into the NULGE week in order to keep the body and soul in proper shape.
* Members of the NYSC Freedom of Information Community Development Service have carried their sensitization campaigns to the Afor Market in Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, on the importance of the Freedom of Information Act to the citizens of Nigeria. The President of the group, Mr Ojo Isaac, explained that Freedom of Information ensures transparency, openness and good governance.
* Anambra State government has flagged off the 2023/2024 joint Orientation ceremony for JSS 1, SS 1 and transferred students of public and public-mission secondary schools in the state. ANN reports that the ceremony held at Anglican Girls Secondary School, Ogidi is a joint programme of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, and Anambra State Universal Basic Education, ASUBEB, Awka, which had in attendance educational officers from Ogidi, Onitsha, Otuocha zones, students and parents.
Declaring the programme opened, the Chairman, PPSSC, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu said the orientation ceremony is designed to enable fresh and transferred students in secondary schools get acquainted with their schools and adjust to the challenges of school life, change their ways of thinking towards schooling and how to respond or adjust to what is obtained in various school environment.
* The Vicar, Christ Redemption Church, Ezi-Awka, Venerable Onyinyechukwu Illione, encouraged Christians to run the race of faith and fix their eyes on Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of their faith reminding the parishioners that the journey of heaven is all about faith and focused.
Venerable Illione cautioned those who enjoy life like there is no tomorrow to remember that all is vanity without Christ.
