* A 31 years old man, who gave his name as James Rich, and a church worker has been arrested for impregnating a 14 years old girl.

The man, who described himself as a yardman works in St Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church, Ifite Awka, where he also resides with his family. The man was said to have been arrested by officials of Anambra State Ministry of Women’s Affairs, in collaboration with police operatives.

* Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, youth wing, has congratulated the Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodimma on his re-election in last Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the state. ANN reports that the Acting National Youth Leader of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu described Senator Uzodimma’s victory as an act of God that was made manifest by the people’s unanimous endorsement. Okpalaezeukwu who monitored the election in the company of some Igbo youth leaders and stakeholders, described the exercise as peaceful and non-violent, insisting that there was no bloodshed as was the case in previous elections.

* Police in Ozubulu and Umunze towns in Anambra State have smashed two deadly syndicates extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public via deadly threats. In a release from DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, reveals that at Umunze, Orumba South LGA Headquarters, two suspects were nabbed after painstaking investigation. The suspects had sent text messages to their victim identifying themselves as members of ESN and demanding that he paid them a huge sum or else he and his daughter would be kidnapped and killed.

* Anambra Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has within one week apprehended 413 touts, illegal revenue collector’s and four sets of “one chance” criminal gangs in Onistha and it’s environs. The SASA Director of Operations, Mr. Solomon Onwuemene while reacting on the development, 

said they made the arrests in Obosi, Relief market Onitsha, Ezeiweka, Upper Iweka, along Atani road among others. Onwuemene revealed that they recovered hard drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine or mkpulummili, packs of tramadol of different milligrams among others from the touts.

* An Onitsha based lawyer, chief Ugo Ugwunnadi has sued the Anambra state House of Assembly, challenging its power and jurisdiction to enact the Anambra State Traffic Agency law of 2011 and the Anambra State Traffic Agency Amendment law of 2015. Other defendants in the suit include: the speaker of Anambra state house of Assembly, the clerk, the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA), the managing director of ARTMA, Emeka Okonkwo, and an ARTMA officer Lucy and others. In the suit filed at the high court, Atani, Ogbaru division, Ugwunnadi is asking the court to determine if the state house of Assembly has legislative competence to make traffic laws given that the power to make traffic laws is provided for in the exclusive list and conferred on the National Assembly.

* Barrister Obiora Okeke, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Soludo on Pilgrimage has called on Christians to devote more time to thinking about the spirituality attached to visits to holy places than seeing the journey as mere tourism. Nweke in a piece tagged ” Pilgrimage Beyond the Tourist Trail: A Journey of Devotion” called on Christians to remember the original reasons for embarking on the journey pointing out that it was beyond tourism.

* Senator Tony Nwoye representing Anambra North at plenary moved a motion paying tribute to late Prof Nwabueze who was a former Secretary General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo and a Constitutional Lawyer. The red chamber also resolved to send a letter to commiserate with the family of Nwabueze and the good people of Anambra State. Senator President, Godswill Akpabio described the late Nwabueze as one of the best legal minds in the country during his lifetime. He said the role of Nwabueze in the nation’s constitutional evolution remains legendary.

* A cattle rearer named Haruna Mohammed narrowly escaped death on when gunmen invaded his settlement in Mgbakwu Community, located in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State killing 20 cows and several others were injured. The leader of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MCBAN) in the Southeast, Gidado Siddiki, who disclosed this while briefing Journalists in Awka on Wednesday also noted that the entire Fulani family in the state are currently living in fear over the incident.

* Anambra State House of Assembly lead by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has presented their condolence message to the Governor Chukwuma Soludo. ANN reports that the 8th assembly on Friday paid a condolence visit to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on the passing of his father, late Pa Simeon Soludo.
