* Anambra Police Commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye has warned that the Command will not condone the reckless resort to jungle justice by anyone or group in the State. Adeoye described any mob that lynches crime suspects as beasts and that group who resort to Jungle justice are worse than the suspects they lynch. In a release from DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Awka, the Commissioner advised all aggrieved persons to take their cases to the Police and if they don’t get justice to contact his office directly.
* 884 pupils in three public-mission primary schools in Nawfia, Njikoka LGA of Anambra state have been given scholarships for the first term of the 2023/2024 academic year. The scholarship worth 1.5 million was paid as school fees by the Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr Chinedu Nwoye and the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budgets, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake.
* Former Super Eagles player and Chairman Anambra State Football Association General Chikelue Iloenyosi has been awarded as the best FA Chairman in Nigeria. Iloenyosi received the award in Lagos at Rockview Hotels, Festac Town.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced new plans towards improving learning and creating a more supportive, conducive environment for students. Governor Soludo who paid a one-day working visit to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, Igbariam campus interacted with the teaching and non-teaching staff. Accompanied by key government officials, the Governor assessed the conditions of the university. He unveiled several initiatives aimed at improving public education in the state.
* The member representing Oyi Constituency in the Anambra state Hon. Innocent Ojike has revealed that he would start the perimeter Fencing and Renovation of Odumodu Primary school, Umunya. Ojike made this known in an interview with newsmen. He said that security of lives and properties should be everybody’s concern stating that the security & safety of students is paramount. The lawmaker maintained that students deserve conducive environment to learn hence his resolve to renovate the school too.
* Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Presidential Candidate of Labour Party in Nigeria, Mr. Peter Obi, has commended young writers in Anambra State for annually celebrating legendary Nigerian writer, Late Prof. Chinua Achebe. Obi gave the commendation while speaking at the 2023 Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture, organized by the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (Anambra State Chapter), which was held at the Prof. Kenneth Dike State Central E-Library Library, Awka, Anambra State capital
* Umudioka Community in Awka South LGA defeated Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) 5-1 at opening game of Ife Igbo football competition held at Awka township stadium. ANN reports that the football competition is being organized by Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Mr Osita Onuko and sponsored by Jezco group limited. Umudioka, the home community of Onuko team dominated the match in the 90 minutes of play leaving ACTDA in disarrayed.
* The department of Philosophy Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka at the weekend honored Mr. Onyemaobi Augustine Nonyelum , the Transition Chairman of Dunukofia LGA. The award was given in recognition of the chairman’s immersed contributions towards the localization of the solution agenda.
* Laying of stonebase has commenced on the 4.3 kilometer Oye Agu Abagana-Nimo road. ANN reports that while laying of stonebase has been completed on 1.3 kilometers, the road is now motorable up to Girls Secondary School, Abagana. Drainage construction has been completed on both sides of the road up to two kilometers of the road on the right hand side and has been completed to the river opposite Girls Secondary School, Abagana while kebbs are being placed from O.202km on the right hand side of the road.
* Members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, South East Zone has paid a familiarization visit to the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye in his office at the command headquarters in Amawbia. The Vice President of NAWOJ, South East Zone, Comrade Stella Igboka while speaking revealed that the objectives of the association aligns with the crime-fighting drives of the Nigeria Police Force, such as protecting child and women rights among others.
* Police in Anambra State have arrested a major arms dealer dealing illegally in prohibited Firearms in Onitsha, Anambra State. ANN gathered that the breakthrough followed weeks of intensive surveillance by operatives of the Command. In a release by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, a total of twenty-three automatic pump action guns and 625 live cartridges were recovered. So far three suspects have been arrested in Onitsha
