* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has advised the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to work towards prioritising the welfare of members.
Addressing members of the NUJ, Anambra State Credentials Committee, who visited him at his office in Awka, Mefor decried the plight of journalists in Nigeria, pointing out that they are not only underappreciated but are sometimes maligned by those in other professions, particularly politicians who obstruct their jobs and put them in harm’s way.
The commissioner further assured that he will study their requests regarding the forthcoming NUJ Anambra Election and make a case to the appropriate quarters as the ministry can’t do much.
The chairman of the Credentials Committee, Dr. Stanley Ikem Onunkwo, informed the Commissioner of the NUJ Anambra Election coming up in January 2025 and asked for the government’s assistance to ensure a successful election.
* Idemili South Council Chairman, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has expressed happiness over the approval of dualization and construction of Nwagu Agulu -Nnokwa-Nnobi-Nnewi road by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
According to Mrs. Obi, the approval is clear evidence that Governor Soludo understands the needs of Ndi Anambra and is very much concerned to the progress of the state.
The Mayor noted that the road infrastructure when completed will transform the entire axis and will create a new opportunities for the achievement of the livable and prosperous Anambra State agenda.
* The lawmaker representing Ogbaru one constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly Hon. Noble Chukwunonso Igwe says Peter Obi, Dr. Chris Ngige, Chief Willie Obiano and others who have served as governors in Anambra didn’t remember Okpoko community during their tenures as the community was completely forlorned and forgotten by his predecessors.
Igwe who stated this while speaking in his office at the state assembly complex Awka, said he was born and bred in Okpoko and he could tell quite frankly that of all those who have served as governors in the state, only Governor Chukwuma Soludo remembered the slum called Okpoko community in spite of the huge deposits of economic potentials in the area.
He said that Okpoko people will forever remain grateful to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
* The youths of Ojoto community in Idemili South Council Area led by Comrade Samuel Mbanefo has reaffirmed their unalloyed support to Idemili South Council Mayor, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi and
the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The youths made the statement during Hon. Obi’s inspection of on-going 1.2km road in St. Barnabas-Nnewi-Oba old road, stating that she did marvellously well as the former Caretaker Chairman.
Welcoming the Council Boss with gift, the leader of the youths, Comrade Samuel Mbanefo said, Ojoto is now APGA and they are solidly behind Hon. Obi to assist her in the effort to take the council area to the next level of development.
Responding, Hon. Obi appreciated them for the gift and support, stating that she is following the footsteps of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo.
* Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), at its 33rd meeting, approved the dualisation and construction of the 16.51 KM (Lot 2) Nnewi-Ozubulu-Okija Road with a 370-meter spur and three (3)-span bridge across the Ulasi River in Okija.
The project was awarded at the sum of 30,918,364,686.00 (Thirty Billion, Nine hundred and eighteen Million, Three hundred and sixty-four thousand, Six hundred and eighty-six Naira only) to Ferotex Construction Company. The project timeline is 18 months.
According to a release by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, ANSEC took a critical look at the security situation in the state and resolved to confront it head-on until Ndi Anambra can sleep with their two eyes closed.
* The Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has embarked on road inspection tour, alongside some state government Officials to assess the condition of roads in Nnewi.
Anazodo accompanied by his team, to assess the dire state of the road network demonstrates his dedication to addressing Nnewi North’s pressing isssues, particularly the poor condition of roads, which has been a major concern for residents and commuters alike.
The inspection tour aims to identify damaged roads and develop a plan for rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Hon. Anazodo noted that Nnewi being one of the commercial and industrial city in Anambra State, has been experiencing rapid growth and urbanization under Governor Soludo’s administration, he noted that infrastructural development is crucial to its economic and social progress.
* The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), through its Development Control Unit has evacuated residents of Diamond hostel located off St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, UNIZIK temporary site, Awka, due to serious structural concerns.
The building, a twin structure primarily housing students and field workers, was evacuated following report of cracks and concern over the building deteriorating condition.
Poor drainage around the foundation has reportedly worsened the issue, raising fears of a potential collapse. To prevent any casualty, ACTDA’s enforcement team acted promptly, instructing all occupants to vacate immediately.
Addressing ACTDA officials, the Lodge caretaker Mr. Francis Okoye acknowledged the urgency of the evacuation, stating that over 100 occupants lived in the building. He said while the government’s action was necessary to protect lives, he hoped for a 48-hour notice for smoother relocation.

profiling and adequate training of vigilante operatives by the police will not only enable prompt and proper flow of information but will help build their general orientation to effectively discharge their duties.
Mefor gave the suggestions recently when he paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, at his office in Amawbia to familiarise and share ideas on better ways to improve on the current security situation in the state.
Responding, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam expressed happiness over the Commissioner’s visit and expressed commitment to improving the security situation of the state and urged Ndị Anambra to always cooperate with the police to enable the Force to serve them better.
While appreciating the Information Commissioner’s suggestion about vigilante security operatives’ profiling, CP Itam assured that the police have plans to restructure operations regarding the vigilante operations and other levels of security operations in the state.
* Chairman Anambra State Sports Commission, Hon. Patrick Onyedum has congratulate Otuocha Zone for winning the under 12 Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) 2024 Under-12 Sports Competition.
The tournament organized by ASUBEB in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Abuja took place at Awka City Stadium, and featured 4 by 100 meters Relay Girls, 4 by100 meters Relay Boys, athletics, football match, Medal presentation, award of trophies to winning teams and cultural dance.
Onyedum in his speech revealed that the ability of the state government to pay the accumulated counterpart funds for 2019, 2020 and 2022 UBE Grant made the hosting of the sports Competition possible.
Executive Chairman, ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi revealed that the organizing of the ASUBEB 2024 Sports Competition will qualify Anambra State team to participate in the forthcoming national competition coming up on 6th November,2024.
* The Commissioner for Information, Anambra State, Dr. Law Mefor has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman/Executive Officer, Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), Dr. Greg Ezeilo, at his office in Awka.
While addressing the AIRS Chairman, Mefor said he was there to familiarise himself with the institution and its management and see what could be done to sensitise Ndị Anambra on tax payment, which is necessary for the quick realisation of Soludo’s ambitious plan for Anambra and the state’s development.
According to him, Governor Soludo has a lot of mega projects ongoing in various parts of the state, which will be realised fully and in good time if the internally generated revenue is improved.
