* Joint Security Forces have been deployed to ensure Nnewi is calm throughout the burial ceremonies of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra Command SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a release stated that the attack on the operatives was not from non state actors.
“The Command is aware of the shooting incident that took place at Izuchukwu junction, Nnobi/Nnewi road by 7 pm on Wednesday were Security Operatives mistook the Police Operatives as unfriendly Forces and opened fire at them.
* The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) and the Public Complaints Commission, (PCC) have restated their resolve to strengthen and deepen the existing relationship between them on dispute resolution in Anambra State.
This pact was cemented on Wednesday 20th of November 2024 when the State Commandant of NSCDC Anambra State Command, Maku Olatunde received in audience the newly appointed Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Anambra State, Hon. Emmanuel Okechukwu Muoka, along with ther Management team of the Commission on a courtesy visit at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters Awka.
In his remark, Comdt. Maku appreciated
Muoka and his team for the visit pledging to assist the Commission in actualizing its mandate in the state. He promised to work with the Nigerian Ombudsman in conflict resolution and in performing their role of redressing complaints lodged by aggrieved citizens or residents against administrative and social injustice.
* The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has hailed President Bola Tinubu for intervening in the crisis in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
President Tinubu had on Wednesday ordered the Minister of Education to dissolve the governing council of the institution and also remove its recently installed Vice Chancellor, Prof Benard Odoh and the registrar.
This is coming three days into a warning strike declared by the national body of the association to protest the exclusion of their members from contesting the position of Vice Chancellor.
* The Inspector General of Police IGP has filed criminal charges against Anambra State former Governorship candidate, Senator Andy Uba for allegedly defrauding an applicant for the post of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC to the tune of N400M.
Senator Andy Uba is to be arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja along with Crystal Chidinma Uba, Benjamin Elu and one Hajia Fatima for allegedly swindling one Dr George Uboh of N400M on the false pretence of securing the appointment of the Managing Director of NDDC for him.
In the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/538/2024, the Inspector General of Police alleged that the former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) conspired with other defendants and allegedly made a false claim that he had perfected way to an appointment of the NDDC MD to any interested person who can afford the huge sum.
In the process, Dr George Uboh was said to have fallen victim of the alleged false claim by transferring N400M in two tranches into the bank account supplied by Senator Andy Uba.
* The Justice, Development and Peace Caritas, JDPC, Onitsha, has solicited the partnership and support of the State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA) in the execution of its Flood Risk Reduction and Management Project, funded by Catholic Relief Services in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
JDPC Executive Director, Rev. Fr. Edwin Udoye, who made the appeal during an advocacy visit to the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo, noted that SEMA’s involvement would provide essential technical, logistical, and operational support needed to effectively address flood vulnerabilities and foster resilience across the communities.
Represented by the Project Lead, Shadrach Nwaekeagu, the Director explained that the project will be carried out in 12 out of the 16 communities in the flood-ravaged Ogbaru LGA.
* The leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State has vehemently warned opposition elements in the council area to desist forthwith from raining insults and abuses on the national leader of the party and governor of the state Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
The leadership of the party also cautioned opposition elements against inflammatory statements on the member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency Rt Hon.Dr.Paschal Arinzechukwu Agbodike, Mayor of Ihiala Local Government Hon. Engr. Anayochukwu Orjiakor and other elected officials of the party.
A statement signed by the Ihiala Local Government APGA Party Chairman Hon. Arch. Chijioke Okoye, declared that the party will henceforth resist every attempt by oppositions to malign the governor and all other elected office holders on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ihiala.
* The long-standing dispute over the Vice Chancellor’s position at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has been resolved with the dismissal of the university’s Governing Council, led by Amb. Greg Mbadiwe.
Also affected by this move are the newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Benard Odoh, and the Registrar, Barr. Rosemary Nwokike.
Other members dismissed include Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, Engr. Amioleran Osahon, and Rtd. Gen. Funsho Oyeneyin.
The abrupt development has caused a stir among university stakeholders and the broader academic community.
* Former governor of Anambra State and Presidential Candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi has said that Nigeria can feed its citizens and even have enough to export if it invests in agriculture.
Obi stated this when he visited Mary Agro Farms in Omughu community in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. The farm is a 500 hectares of land project, owned by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu.
Obi who donated N20million to the manager of the project said the visit has reinforced his believe that Nigeria has enough land for cultivation of food that can feed the nation.
* The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Benue State University, Makurdi, Sir Paul Chukwuma, spontaneously granted full scholarships to seven undergraduate students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, on Wednesday, while he was presenting his keynote speech at the 6th International Conference of the Nigerian Association of Industrial and Organizational Psychologists.
The conference which featured Professor Thomas Li-Ping Tang, a renowned global scholar, who came in from the United States for the conference, was well attended by psychologists and many scholars from different parts of Nigeria.
In his opening remarks, the conference’s Chairman, Prof. Anayo Nkemnebe, emphasized that digitization has significantly influenced our lives. “Digitization is impacting us as human beings. Digital devices want to steal away our human relations,” Prof. Nkemnebe said. On his part, the Head of the Department of Psychology, Prof. Chidozie Nwafor, in his brief remarks, emphasized his desire for conference attendees to learn from the guest and resource person, Prof. Tang.
* The Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Benard Odoh, has called on the Federal Ministry of Education not to be desperate in trying to set the institution on fire, or attempting to usurp the powers of the courts before whom are multiple lawsuits on the matter and run into conclusion without evidence.
Odoh made this known while reacting to a statement credited to the Federal Ministry of Education which was signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, and titled ‘Dissolution of Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka’.
