* The Anambra Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, says the state is the second in the country to automate the budget process. Mrs Nnake stated this in Awka during a stakeholders consultative meeting on Anambra State’s proposed 2024 Annual Budget and the 2024-2026 medium term expenditure and assumption. The consultative meeting was to facilitate participation, inclusiveness, consensus building, accountability, transparency and the rule of law in the budget process.

* A bill for a law to repeal the Anambra State Newspaper and Printing Corporation 1994 and to provide for related matters have been read for the second time at plenary. ANN reports that Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Jude Akpua while leading the debate maintained that the decisions of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo will always be for the good of ndi Anambra. Hon. Akpua who is the member representing Njikoka two constituency called for the posting of the staff of Anambra State Newspaper and Printing Corporation to different ministries and agencies.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has tasked Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife to bring his wealth of knowledge and influence to help in nation building. Soludo was speaking when he received the traditional ruler on a courtesy call at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia. The Governor described the Ooni as a bridge builder going by his antecedents and wealth of experience garnered through his many travels around the country and the world, pointing out that traditional institutions are the building blocks to ensure the stability of the country.

* ABU Mmaduaburochukwu Foundation, a non-governmental organization has offset bail of five inmates of Awka Custodial Center after they regained their freedom. Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, Chief Christopher Attah during a visit to the center also donated food and sanitation item such as cartons of soap, cartons of gala, dozens of  tissue papers and many more to the centre. ANN gathered that those that gained their freedom through the bail include: Izuchukwu Nwosu, Chekwube Ogbuagu, Ebuka Afuba, Uchechukwu Izundu and Chigozie Nkili.

* Anambra state house committee on Finance and Appropriation, with the committee on economic planning and SDGs has commence 2024 budget draft estimates defense, bilateral discussion with ministries, departments, agencies and other government parastatals. 

Speaking at the budget defense, house committee chairman on Finance and Appropriation Hon. Ejike Okechukwu in his remark, assured the ministries that the 8th assembly will do everything within its powers by making the budget realistic and achievable.

* The people of Mbanano, Enugwu Agidi Community, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, numbering over 500, protested against what they described as continued harassment of their sons and daughters at their farmlands, even as they accused the owner of the Blue Shield Security Outfit Ozo Jeff Nweke as the man behind their present predicament. Speaking on behalf of the protesters, the Chairman Land Committee, Mbanano, Enugwu Agidi Community, Mr Peter Onuekwusi said that they were at the Police Command to lodge a complaint over the çontinued intimidation, torture and harassment of the indigenes of the community by Ozo Jeff Nweke, using his security outfit to unleash mayhem to the community, stating that he was using the personnel from his private security company to carry out what he described as dastardly act as well as heinous crime against his people. 

* Anambra State Ministry of Environment has commenced grassing and tree planting at the new Government House, Awka aimed at protecting the land from erosion and other environmental problems. ANN gathered that the grasses planted in the area include port-harcourt, fescue, vertiva, and jathropa.

According to the Commissioner for Environment Engineer Felix Odimegwu, the environment remains one of the topmost priorities in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development vision.
