* The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake says the proposed  2024 budget estimate if passed into law will explore Anambra’s five trillion naira economy to the fullest. Mrs. Nnake who disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists during a budget breakdown session at the Government House, Awka, revealed that it can change the fortunes of the state if taken advantage of.

Recall that Governor Chukwuma Soludo last Tuesday presented a budget estimate of over N410b to Anambra State House of Assembly.

* Mrs Eucharia Agbasimalo, the wife of Obiorah Agbasimalo, missing Labour Party governorship candidate in the November 2021 Anambra State poll, has alleged that the driver to the kidnapped politician and another suspect collected the sum of ₦5,000,000 from them on behalf of his abductors. Eucharia disclosed this while testifying in a Suit No. HIH/15C/22 before an Nnewi High Court 1 presided over by Justice C. N. Mbonu-Nwenyi. She alleged that the driver, Mr Chukwudi Odimegwu and one Mr Nwokolo Maxwell, currently standing trial before the court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnap, collected the money for the kidnappers to release her husband, but never released him up to date.

* Respected Awka indigene, and Ozo title holder, Chief Celestine Okoye has vowed to drag the commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye to court. Okoye, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, who is also known as Uzuakpundu said he has instructed his lawyer, a senior advocate of Nigeria to quickly write Adeoye. Okoye cited a letter written to the inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, against the owner of Blue Shield security company, Ozo Jeff Nweke, in which he was mentioned, as his grouse.

* The leadership of Nsugbe community in Anambra East Local Government Area, have condemned the recent murder of two youths of the community, Chukwurah Nweze and Gozie Anyansi by members of Nneyi Umueri. ANN gathered that the tragic incident occurred during an alleged raid on Nsugbe by some persons from Nneyi Umueri. In a press conference held in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, the leaders called on the state government to expedite a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice while emphasizing the need for peaceful co-existence of the community and her neighbors. 

* It was an event full of cultural activities as the traditional ruler of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area, Igwe Alexander Onyido performed his fourth Ofala festival. The festival drew sons and daughters of the community including their friends and well wishers from neighbouring communities. 24 illustrious sons of the community drawn from its four quarters received chieftaincy titles including being elevated as High Chiefs due to their contributions to the growth and development of the community. Traditional rulers from the state led by their Chairman, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe represented by the traditional ruler of Omor, Igwe Chidume Oranu attended the event. 

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Engr Chris Obiorah has assured to maintain a clean and healthy Nnewi for the good of residents. Engr Obiorah gave the assurance while monitoring the compliance of the November 2023 End-Of-The-Month sanitation exercise. While moving around the metropolis, Engr Obiorah expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance and participation by the residents and encouraged them to sustain the tempo. He called on those yet to understand the value of a clean environment to key into the the Keep Nnewi Clean project to help secure the environment and make it healthy for all.

* In line with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s efforts to strengthen the digital economy in Anambra State, a one-day interactive session has been hold to establish an internet exchange point. The session was between the Anambra State ICT Agency, Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) and Internet Service Providers.

The session was facilitated by officials from Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria and the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), along with the ICT Agency in Awka, from today.

* The Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering (ECE), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has honoured the immediate past Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNIZIK Chapter, Comrade Stephen Ufoaroh during a special departmental board. The special departmental board which was held at the Faculty of Engineering (FEG) NEEDS Assessment Building Conference hall was an occasion to perform a home coming of one of their colleague, Engr. Dr. Stephen Ufoaroh, for his selfless service and successful outing during his reign as the Chairperson, ASUU UNIZIK Branch.
