* A Catholic Priest in Anambra State identified as Rev. Fr. Nwaigwe Stephen has been remanded for allegedly raping and impregnating a teenager.

ANN gathered that an Awka Chief Magistrates’ Court, otherwise known as the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court , Anambra State remanded the priest in prison till December 6, 2023. The magistrate ordered the prosecutor to transmit the original case file to the office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Anambra State.

* Two hundred and seventeen Anglican faithful were administered with the sacrament of confirmation during a special service held at Immanuel Parish Awgbu in Orumba North Local Government Area. During the service which was officiated by the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, some faithful were also admitted into Girls Guild, Women’s Guild and Anglican Men’s Fellowship for all the churches under the Good News Archdeaconry.

* The Archdiocese of Onitsha, alumni, and students of Christ the King College, (CKC) Onitsha has celebrated the 90th anniversary of the school. The epoch making event, which took place at the newly dedicated Chapel, kicked off with a holy mass presided over by the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke. In his homily centred on consecration, Archbishop of Onitsha Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Okeke charged the congregation to live a life of godliness in order not to desecrate the chapel.

* Anambra State Government has hosted and celebrated elderly, vulnerable and people living with disabilities In an effort to bring solace to the distressed and serve as a beacon of hope to the downtrodden. ANN reports that Prince Engr Arthur Eze who turned  75 recently was also celebrated at the event.The occasion commenced with an inter-denominational church service officiated by the Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop, Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim.

* Anambra State Ministry of Environment on Monday apeared before joint committees of Finance and Appropration chaired by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu and Committe on Environment headed by Hon. Frederick Ezenwa. Commissioner for Environment Anambra state, Engineer Felix Odimegwu assured the committees that their will be an improvement in their performance and productivity in the coming year 2024. Engr. Odimegwu while speaking at the budget defense and bilateral discuss outlined the plans of the ministry, stating that privention measures will be applied in order to curb the manace of erosion. 

* No fewer than 250,000 passengers have passed through the Chinua Achebe Airport, formerly Anambra Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri, since it was inaugurated for commercial operations in Dec. 2021. Martins Nwafor, Managing Director of Chinua Achebe Airport, said this in an interview recently. Nwafor said about 4,000 airlifts had passed through the airport with an average of six flights per day.

He said the first four months had low activity as it was the route building period.

* Ndi Anambra have been charged to always report every suspicious activity within their environment to security agencies for a safer state. The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Comrade ThankGod Anago gave this charge while speaking in Awka. Anago who praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo leadership style as it regards the security of life and properties of Ndi Anambra, noted that everyone has to be alive to the responsibility of securing Anambra state. He maintained that all residents of the state should rise up to ensure that miscreants and hoodlums do not have a free day in Anambra, especially during this yuletide when criminal activities tend to be on the increase within the country.

* The Former Head of Service, Anambra State, Chief Harry Udu, the Provost, Anambra State College of Nursing Sciences (ASCONS) Nkpor, Dr Juliana Nwazuruoke and the ASCONS Students Union Government have called on  Governor Chukwuma Soludo to come to the rescue of the college community and environs by rehabilitating the road leading to the College of Nursing Sciences. The ASCONS management and students also decried the menace of erosion threatening the lives, property and academics of the students and staff of the college community urging the State government to quickly save their souls by intervening promptly concerning the natural disaster that had overtaken three college classroom blocks.

* The family of late Mr. Joseph Ezenwegbu, the assassinated Ward 1 Chairman of the Young People’s Party (YPP) in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has announced his burial activities.

Recall that Mr. Ezenwegbu (popularly known as Joe Mohale) was shot dead by a group of masked men on the evening of Saturday, November 11, 2023, a few minutes after he organised a meeting between the party faithful in Nanka and the member representing Orumba North and South Federal
