* The Anambra State Government has officially launched the statewide Electronic Markets Stall Digitization Project, with the flag-off ceremony held at Relief Market, Ogbaru.

Chief Evarist Uba, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Trades and Markets, emphasized that the project’s main goal is to capture every market stall in the state’s database.

This initiative is designed to address challenges related to store ownership, improve government revenue collection, and provide accurate data on the number of shops in Anambra’s markets.

 

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described the Supreme Court judgement which returned Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa as the authentic National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance as a true confirmation that APGA is a peaceful family with progressive identity and ideology.

In a release signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Emma Madu, congratulating Ezeokenwa on his landmark victory on behalf of the State Legislature, Rt. Hon. Udeze commended the APGA National Leader, Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other notable Stakeholders in the party for their dogged efforts in ensuring that truth prevailed in the Court at last.

Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that APGA under the leadership of Ezeokenwa has recorded meaningful development so far, adding that the National Chairman has introduced a lot of reforms which have continued to reposition the party, evident in the successful conduct of the September, 28, 2024 Local Government Election in the State.

* Lady Hannah International Secondary School, Awada Obosi, emerged victorious in the Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) School Tax Competition, a program aimed at increasing tax awareness among young people and highlighting its importance to societal development.

With the theme ”Increasing Tax Awareness in Tomorrow’s Leaders,” the competition featured three finalist schools: Lady Hannah International Secondary School, Awada Obosi; Marist Comprehensive College, Nteje; and Grace Court Academy, Awka, representing the state’s senatorial zones.

Addressing the students, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, highlighted how the state’s developmental strides are powered by tax contributions. He emphasized the government’s commitment to the judicious use of tax revenue and urged citizens to fulfill their civic duties to accelerate the state’s progress.

 

* St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, has reinvented the spirit of their patron saint, as the parish unveiled the statue of St. Martin of Tours during the celebration of 2024 feast day.

The event was remarkable as the entire Catholic community gathered at the church premesis to celebrate the annual feast day.

In a homily, Fr. Michael Emerue dwelt on the life of love, humility, courage and faithfulness which St. Martin of Tours stood for during his lifetime; and charged the Catholic community to copy and emulate such virtures.

* The Social and Integral Development Centre, (SIDEC) host, Tax Justice and Governance Platform, Anambra State has appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo
to fix deplorable roads around major markets in the state to ease human and vehicular movement during this yuletide.

Executive Director of SIDEC, Ugochi Ehiahuruike, made the appeal during an advocacy visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Markets, Chief Evaristus Uba, as part of Tax for Service Project jointly implemented by the organization in collaboration with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC) with funding support from Oxfam.

In her power-point presentation, Ehiahuruike showed the current pitiable conditions of roads around the major markets in Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia, Igboukwu Aforigwe among others.

* Anambra businessman and entrepreneur Chief Akai Egwuonwu is set to declare his interest in the upcoming Anambra South senatorial by-election.

Chief Akai, who had maintained near neutrality over the by-election until the funeral of his late friend Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah last Friday, is now set to join the race, which is gathering momentum from every possible standpoint.

By the end of the week, Chief Akai Egwuonwu, would formally join the Anambra South senatorial by-election with an expression of interest to contest the election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance – APGA.

* The Chairman of Anambra State Football Association, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi has sent words of felicitations to the NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau on the success of his election as the 1st Vice President of West African Football Union (WAFU B).

According to Iloenyosi, this is a deserved position as Gusua has shown capacity in championing football development at the grassroots in the country.

The election took place in Niamey, Niger Republic. The WAFU B zone is made up of seven countries, Nigeria, Togo, Benin Republic, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and Cote d’Ivoire.

* Hon. Rome Ibekwe, Mayor of Anaocha, alongside Mrs. Ify Anigbogu, Head of Primary Healthcare, Anaocha, and members of the Primary Healthcare Directorate, conducted a thorough inspection of the facilities, equipment and ongoing work at St. Cletus Healthcare Medical Centre, Neni.

During the inspection, Hon. Ibekwe and the Primary Healthcare Anaocha team assessed the centre’s compliance with international standards and norms, including quality, safety, and value programmes.

The team evaluated the centre’s commitment to responsible oversight functions, systems redesign, and improvement programmes for the well-being of patients.

* In a significant development for the Onitsha North LGA, the Mayor of the Council, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, has successfully ended a power supply jinx that lasted over 15 years at the Council’s Secretariat in Onitsha GRA.

Recently, officers from the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) were seen diligently working to reconnect power to the council premises, a move aimed at enhancing the working conditions for staff and improving overall productivity.

Mayor Nwora’s leadership and commitment to revitalizing local government operations have been pivotal in this achievement.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Felix Odimegwu has attended a regulatory dialogue/all inclusive interactive session on the National Environmental (Battery Control) Regulations 2024 organized by National Environmental Standard and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) in collaboration with German cooporation for international cooperation (GIZ Nigeria), European Union together with relevant Federal Agencies, Fed/State Ministries of Environment and NGO.

The Dialogue main focus was to develop effective strategies for safe handling, collection, recycling and sound management of used batteries in the country, equip and delineate roles for the Federal and State governments officials towards the effective implementation of the Regulation/Regulatory framework, and proper sanctions which will address the environmental and health challenges posed by the improper management of used batteries in Nigeria.

Addressing the participants through the Federal Controller of Environment for South West Zone, Mrs. Olabimpe Adenaike, the Honourable Minister of Environment, Mallam Balarabe Abbas Lawal called for synergy between regulatory Agencies in the implementation of the Regulations.
