* A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State capital, has remanded the owner of the Blue Shield Security company, Ọzọ Jeff Nweke.
This is coming months after the suspect had reportedly been on the run, having dodged many invitations from the police over accusations linking him and his security company to some criminal activities in the Awka metropolis and its environs. ANN recall that some indigenes of Enugwu-Agidi, during their recent protest, also accused Nweke of illegal land grabbing activities, intimidation, sponsoring of insecurity, sponsorship of recent nude protest against security agencies, unlawful possession of firearm, among other criminal activities and violence conducts.
* Residents of Awka Industrial layout have sent a save our soul message to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to save them from the effect of the dilapidated road stalling their businesses over the years. They made call following the commencement of dry season and anticipated increase in road construction .
*Prof. Chukwuma Soludo says Anambra Government will invest in constructing a home for the elderly in the state next year. ANN reports that Soludo stated this when he spent a day with elderly, people living with disabilities and other members of different vulnerable groups in the state held at Emmaus House, Awka. According to Soludo, the state government already acquired five hectares of land for the old people’s home project, to help take care of the vulnerable who don’t have people to take care of them and muted the idea of naming of the buildings in the proposed complex after Prince Eze.
* Construction work has commenced on the three-point four-kilometer Nnokwa -Awka-Etiti road barely three weeks after the contract was awarded by the Anambra State government. At the site, excavation and drainage construction were ongoing after clearing of the road from Nnokwa axis whileh eavy duty vehicles were seen working at various levels on the road.
* Ihiala Progress Union (IPU) has assured all and sundry that the town will celebrate this year’s Christmas and other end of the year festivities in peace. IPU which is the town union government in the area, maintained that the traditional institution and other stakeholders in Ihiala are working day and night to ensure that the forthcoming festive season witnessed a tranquil atmosphere.
* A two-day crusade organized by Awka For Christ Initiative has ended with a call on Ndi Igbo to come together and champion peace and togetherness. The crusade which was held at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, was tagged “Awka Citywide Crusade”. It was organized in partnership with all the churches in Awka and had the theme ‘Jesus Christ Reigns Over Awka’.
* 38 new members have been inducted into City Sports Club Amawbia, Awka South Council Area.
The new members were admitted in a ceremony at the Club premises Amawbia. Addressing the inductees, the President of the Club, Dr Ifeanyi Ezeobi assured them of enjoying rights and privileges in the club while urging them to participate actively in physical and other activities of the club to enjoy the inherent health benefits.
* Winners of the Academicals football cup for primary and secondary schools in Anambra have received cash prizes of about N4 million from the state government. Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission gave the money to the beneficiaries on behalf of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo at the Commission conference hall. Cash prizes of N1 million and N500,000 were given to first and second places winners respectively in the male and female U17 categories while N500,000 and N250,000 given to first and second placed U13 or primary schools respectively.
* The Quiz Competition organized by the Education Committee of Ogbunka Development Union has ended with Community Secondary School, Ogbunka emerging winner of the Secondary category while Good Shepherd Catholic Nursery and Primary School, Ogbunka, won in the primary school category.
The Quiz Competition for all primary and secondary schools in Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government Area, was held at Ogbunka Civic Centre with pupils, students, teachers and officials of the Ogbunka Development Union in attendance.
* Fresh facts have emerged that the women that protested against police over alleged crime surge in Awka were hired. According to investigations the protesting nude women were not from Anambra. An Awka indigene who is also a leader in the community dismissed the protesters as fake. The Awka leader who pleaded anonymity for security reasons said, ” How do you think those women are from Awka? Don’t the pride of an Awka person
* Anambra State Government has denied the rumour of scrapping off the state health insurance scheme christened, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency. There have been rumour that the state government is finding it diffcult to run and would soon close the scheme
