* The member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Princess Chinwe Nnabuife has called on women to participate actively in politics to stop gender inequality, strengthen governance and accelerate the nation’s development.
Nnabuife made the call during her outreach programme for women in her constituency organised by National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies in collaboration with the United Nations Women held in Ajalli, Orumba North local government area.
In her address, which centered on advancing Women’s Political Participation and Representation, the Federal legislator commended the resilience and potentials of women in her constituency, and regretted that less than five percent of women make up the National Assembly members and advocated for election of more women into political office as it enriches the nation’s democracy and empowers communities across the federation.
She pointed out that the programme serves as a platform to explore innovative strategies to empower women at the grassroots and equip aspiring leaders with necessary skills that will enable them to excel in leadership.
* Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has been extolled for his exemplary and positive leadership qualities, through which development is being brought to rural communities and all parts of the state.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, made this known while speaking on the ‘Impact of Positive Leadership in the Dynamics of Development’ at the Annual Lecture Series in honour of the late Chief Joseph Ndubuisi Nwokedi, to mark the 3rd Ofala Festival of Igwe Sunny Ositadinma Nwokedi of Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area.
Ezeajughi, who represented the governor at the event, urged the people of the area to continue supporting Soludo’s vision and aspirations for a second term in office to enable him to complete what he started.
* Utility products made in Anambra State by the Advanced Development Solutions Initiative Multipurpose Cooperative Society have been launched in Awka.
The products which included wonder stove, diamond blocks and sundry utility products were presented to the public at Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre,Awka.
Addressing the gathering, the National President, ADSI Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Dr. Ogochukwu Soludo explained that they seek to harness combined communal efforts for grassroots mobilisation, social transformation and sustainable development to become a leading, formidable, functional, transformational and impactful business oriented mass movement for social transformation and sustainable development in the country by 2030.
Dr Soludo disclosed that their mission is to promote the well-being and economic interests of members, to mobilise and invest resources wisely across viable economic value chains on behalf of the organisation, manage the investments prudently, multiply the resources, and redistribute the surplus equitably amongst members and stakeholders.
* Timber Market Nnewi soccer boys secured a hard-fought victory over NASPA Nnewi, advancing to the next round of the Anambra State Traders Sports Competition after an 8-7 thriller.
The Timber Market boys had ended the nail-biting encounter 1-1 in regulation time I the game decided at the Nnewi High School, Nnewi Football pitch.
The penalty shootout saw both teams convert seven penalties each but Timber Market held their nerve a securing victory in the eighth round of the spot kick.
* Commissioner for Entertainment, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Don Onyenji, says the Solution government acknowledges the potential of the creative industry, which encompasses arts, tourism, entertainment, and culture, by repositioning, developing and transforming the state into a tourism destination hub through the ongoing construction of projects such as the Solution Fun City, Agulu Lake Resorts, others.
The Commissioner made these remarks during a courtesy visit from the executive of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Anambra State Chapter, in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat in Awka.
Onyenji emphasized that the creative industry is a leading source of global employment, highlighting that the filmmakers have a significant role to play in promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people and nation’s growth.
* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo has cleared a significant backlog of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) grant for the years 2019, 2020, and 2022, a financial obligation he inherited upon taking office.
Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Vera Nwadibobi made the announcement during the 2024 Under-12 sports competition held at Fun City Stadium in Awka.
Dr. Nwadinobi highlighted that this long-awaited payment enabled Anambra’s participation in the annual sports event organized in collaboration with UBEC, Abuja, underscoring the essential role of funding in fostering educational and extracurricular opportunities.
* A non-governmental organisation, Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), has identified political interference and limited transparency as part of factors hampering value and development-driven procurement processes in government circle in the country.
A Senior Program Manager at PPDC, Samuel Akende, disclosed this in Awka during a stakeholders’ meeting on Strengthening Citizens and Vulnerable Group Engagement for Inclusive Governance, organised by the centre in collaboration with Creative Minds Centre for Youth and Community Development (CM-CYCD).
The event, which was attended by participants from various communities, government officials, civil society activists and media professionals, was targeted at enhancing citizens’ skills in project monitoring and community-based engagement, to engender active citizens’ participation in governance processes at the local government level.
* Holy family Catholic Church field Umuoji was filled to the brim as they held reception and presented five cars to their five newly ordained priest.
The newly ordained priests were Reverend Father Anthony Ezeh, Rev. Fr. Micheal Muogbo, Rev. Fr. Augustine Ilechukwu, Rev. Fr. Augustine Onyeji and Rev. Fr Augustine Nwagoli who were ordained priest last year by the Archbishop of Onitsha Most Reverend Valerian Okeke.
Delivering a homily during a holy mass that herald the event, the oldest priest of the parish very Reverend Father Anthony Asoanya, thanked God for the success of the ordination of their five priests as well as his blessings upon Umuoji priests.
One of the brain behind the success of the event who is also the former President General Umuoji Improvement Union, Chief Stephen Onwuachu, thanked God for the success of the event, and appreciated some of his friends and Illustrous sons and daughters of Umuoji for taking it upon themselves to ensure that they maintained their traditional obligations towards the community priests, and prayed God to bless them richly.
* Labour Party Governorship aspirant for the 2025 Governorship election in Anambra has condemned the plan of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to build a close to N1billion water fountain in his local government secretariat.
Soludo and his executive council had in the last meeting had approved the construction of some roads in Anambra State, including the building of a water fountain in Aguata Local Government secretariat, where he hails from.
Nwosu in a post shared on his verified X handle condemned the move, describing it as waste of public fund.
* The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has congratulated His Eminence, Cardinal Francis Arinze, on the occasion of his 92nd birthday.
In his goodwill message signed by Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Aburime, Soludo eulogised Cardinal Arinze as a most distinguished son of Anambra State and a global icon of the Catholic Church, whose life continues to be a towering testimony to uncompromising faith, intellectual brilliance, and selfless service to God and humanity.
The Governor further stated that throughout his illustrious ecclesiastical career, Cardinal Arinze has been a bastion of spiritual wisdom, diplomatic excellence, and pastoral dedication.
